This came up in my recommended and was just what I needed to see! My mare has a naturally higher head carriage and gets easily braced in the neck. As a perfectionist I often find myself wanting to skip the “ugly” bits of warmup and put her straight to work in a higher frame. But with her - especially being an opinionated and dominant mare - I have to go through those discussions and push myself past my comfort zone to get those nice and relaxed moments. I’m going to try to keep this video and your words in mind next time I ride!

I love these videos! Your horses are so lovely. Would you make some of these with the younger horses (less trained) to show important things needed to get into higher levels? It would be great to see things more similarly to my horse. (We are lower level Eventers!) Thank you!

I was always taught that the highest part should be the area just behind the ears- and that if it is further back, the horse is most likely behind the vertical, as this horse does seem to be a tad behind from where I'm observing. I'd love to see him just a bit more forward but that's just me.

Wow the difference from beginning to end you can really see how he comes so much more supple, over the back and in front of your leg. Will definitely be incorporating some of this into my warm up today. 😄❤️🐎

Could you do a your riding story type of video? Right from the beginning telling us about the ponies/horses you have ridden etc? Think it would be interesting to watch :)

So excited to try and use these, my horse was broken for driving before riding and naturally wants to be a giraffe so will be super useful! Had a great schooling session using some of your tips the other day! :)

Behind the vertical is not correct. The FEI rule book and guidelines for training 402: says the neck should be raised in accordance with the horse's training and the nose always slightly in front of the vertical..also the poll should always be the highest point. It is all written in the FEi rules .I love the videos and the enthusiasm... albeit are you sure its correct? He looks to be on the forehand ... its says in the rules to raise the neck?

Lovely video Olivia! I ride a horse for my lady friend. His right rein is so hard compare to his left. I do not know how to make him have a decent contact through out both reins. Also when we're going into canter he starts bucking and he's scared of long wips, so I have a short one at his shoulder. I'm a little scared that if i wip him he'll keep bucking. What do you think I can do to get him better including me. Kind regards Jean

Jean Wong what happens if you ride without a whip?
@96ese
@96ese 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! I have a horse that does this, try patting the horse on the neck with your right hand often and at the same time keep the contact in the left rein and ride forward with your both legs. At first the horse will probably fall to the left and protest with his neck, but eventually he'll start gaining more self carriage and more even contact in both of your reins. Hope this helps :)

Well I only have it on me when i need to canter. I walk and trot he listens to me. So when canter without whip he doesn't listen and bucks.
@brookchilvers4177
@brookchilvers4177 6 жыл бұрын
Jean Wong so he bucks when you have the whip and he bucks when you don’t have the whip. I would therefore suggest that it is not the whip that is causing him to buck, but the action of going into canter. Does he buck when going into canter while being lunged? Have you had his back checked/treated? How old is the horse?
@jeanwongwong
@jeanwongwong 6 жыл бұрын
They did look at his back. And they said that there wasn't anything with it and got the sadle checked. When i lunge him he doesn't buck in canter. I lunge him every second week and try to make his back stronger.
