Warming up is probably the most important part of any brass player's routine. A good warmup can determine the success of our playing ability throughout the course of the day. In this video I discuss the importance of warming up the entire body, not just our lips, when preparing to play. I’ll demonstrate a few simple exercises to help you build a solid foundation for your warmup.

This is the perfect time to throw that back into your routine! My mental warm up was a game changer for me.

Your points about warming up mentally really hit home for me. So often when I practice I mess up tunes that I know I know how to play - and it's because I'm not mentally "there" so I lose the focus and flow.

It’s something that can happen to all of us. Taking a few moments to get dialed in can go a long way.

Your videos have been the greatest thing for my concept of playing! I have previously commented some of your videos, but I feel I have to do it again. Especially the buzz or not to buss has opened the way to play music, not trombone. Thank you again! Stay safe!

I’m glad to hear that the videos are still having such a positive impact on your playing. When we get out of our own way and just focus on the music, things get really fun!

Awesome vid!! I got taught this warm up to find the center of my sound every day: 1. Put my hand in front of mouth, about a couple inches away. 2. Blow a stream of air into my hand and move it around, following the hand with my air stream. Here, I should find the spot where my air is most full and open. 3. Do the same thing with the mouthpiece in between my mouth and my hand, but not touching my lips or my hand. I find the angle in to blow my air stream at which the air goes straight through the mouthpiece and hits my hand with the fullest stream. 4. Blow into my horn with the same intentions. 5. Blow a note into the horn without tongue until it comes out almost instantly as if I were tonguing. Similar concepts to this video I feel like. Thanks for sharing! I have a feeling this channel is gonna grow pretty big. Keep it up!

Thanks, I appreciate you checking out the content and supporting the channel. What you describe sounds like a similar concept. The idea that the air has to move to a target is a great way to visualize things!

I have recently discovered whisper tones (in your video on the subject). I do the air thing you demonstrate, but then I try to blow the softest note possible and run up and down my chromatics from the lowest to the middle of the staff.

I am Really glad I found this KZbin channel a couple weeks ago, it has really helped my playing on all instruments. My main instrument is tuba but i am also fluent in trombone and euphonium. In this past year I have realized that if I think to much, I can’t play as well as if I don’t think. Any other tips on that? I watched a video you talked about that and it has started working I am just curious if you have anymore tips!

Thanks for checking out the content! A key point I try to remember is, we are just a vessel for the music. The more we get in the way, the more difficult everything becomes. Use the air to help the metal vibrate and don’t think too much about what your lips are doing. Trust yourself and the body will follow. I hope this helps!
