Warm Winter, Clean Bees

Took some bees for a nosema test in mid November it was +12c that day, then walked out there yesterday. It’s been nice lately and the bees are out doing cleansing flights. I treat my bees with an antibiotic called fumagillin in the spring and fall to help keep nosema levels down. The sample of bees was clean so that’s good to know.

For anyone wondering, the only way to test for Nosema disease is to look at the bees gut under a microscope. Sadly it kills some bees but let’s me know what there disease levels are and if my treatments are working. Nosema can be devastating to a hive so it’s worth it to take a few bees and know what’s going on. Luckily they were clean so my Fumagillin treatment are working, and the bees seam to be in good shape.
