The most impressive part of this cartoon to me is not only were they able to create a fairly balanced and engaging battle with such a limited premise, but they did it with seamless transitions and no breaks in the music. It looks effortless here, but writing a continuous scene like this for 7 minutes straight without making it boring, repetitive, or gimmicky takes some considerable talent, let alone the effort put into animating it.

@@scoutart1508 I'm unclear on the details, but unless I'm remembering wrong, apparently Rhapsody Rabbit was a bit further along in the production process than Cat Concerto was when Hanna and Barbera accidentally found out about it, and as a result they rushed production on Cat Concerto in order to finish theirs first. But even though they finished first and submitted it for Oscar consideration before Friz Freleng could finish Rhapsody Rabbit, it wasn't actually released to theaters until the following spring. Freleng was pissed about being beaten to the draw, but. as far as I'm aware, he, Hanna and Barbera never accused the other of ripping them off --- they all agreed it was just an amazing coincidence.

I love the classical music centered Tom and Jerry shorts, such as Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl and Johann Mouse. To be honest, I feel like there are a lot of shorts where either Tom is the one who starts it or Jerry does. It’s not just strictly one or the other. They’re both troublemakers. Here through, it’s quite obvious that Tom is the one who starts the fight here. Jerry is just trying to sleep(why choose a piano for a home though is another question altogether) and gets woken up by Tom. Jerry is just peacefully enjoying the piano music afterwards though. He doesn’t bother Tom until he gets attacked first.
