When you think every frame was drawn by hand by hand, using no computers and the genius of the storyboard writers together with the ideas of how to put it all to the music, no wonder it won an Oscar. The beginning when Tom walks pompously onto the stage in the manner of a great maestro cracks me up 😂
@johnclark9262 ай бұрын
The most impressive part of this cartoon to me is not only were they able to create a fairly balanced and engaging battle with such a limited premise, but they did it with seamless transitions and no breaks in the music. It looks effortless here, but writing a continuous scene like this for 7 minutes straight without making it boring, repetitive, or gimmicky takes some considerable talent, let alone the effort put into animating it.

But even though they finished first and submitted it for Oscar consideration before Friz Freleng could finish Rhapsody Rabbit, it wasn't actually released to theaters until the following spring. Freleng was pissed about being beaten to the draw, but. as far as I'm aware, he, Hanna and Barbera never accused the other of ripping them off --- they all agreed it was just an amazing coincidence.
