About Back to Bataan (Theatrical Release - May 31, 1945):
John Wayne stars as the leader of a determined band of resistance fighters combating the Japanese in the Philippines until the American Army returns to battle triumphantly in Back to Bataan.
When the American Army evacuates the Philippines after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Colonel Joseph Madden (Wayne) stays behind to organize an underground resistance. With the help of Philippine Army Captain Andres Bonifacio (Academy Award winner Anthony Quinn), the small, determined band of warriors becomes the tip of the military spear that stops the Imperial Japanese Army from advancing across Asia and the Pacific.

Seeing John Wayne and Anthony Quinn in a war movie together was quite cool. This is one of the better action-oriented war films of the era. Also, Lawrence Tierney, who's in the first scene here as well, would later act in Reservoir Dogs (1992) by Quentin Tarantino, as the leader of the Heist Crew. Thanks for the highlight, Warner Bros. Classics!

That's so cool to know. I knew QT was a western movie buff and that he loves that era of hollywood the most. Really cool that he used some old actors before they died.

Not only that, it's impossible for the Japanese to capture an M4 at that stage in the war and convincingly portray captured Shermans. They should have just used more M5 Lights.
@JohnLinares-g7v
@JohnLinares-g7v Күн бұрын
@@freda8586 There were Stuarts in the Philippines in 1941, so they were used in Japanese svc. The Sherman didn't see combat until late 1942, so they would have to be imported from other theatres, but there's no historical examples of this. Other than Shermans captured & reused on the same field. The Germans did.

@@JohnLinares-g7v That would be the M3 Stuart in 1941. Surprising that they didn't use them in this film, since they were basically obsolete when this was filmed. They should have had a few sitting around gathering dust. I haven't seen this film since probably the 1960's.
