“Recording Ravel is not just a return to my roots, but also a natural stage in my development … my style of playing and the way I imagine sound can be largely attributed to Ravel.” Bertrand Chamayou follows his Erato debut - a Schubert programme described by The Sunday Times as an “affecting, beautifully performed disc” - with a double album devoted to the complete solo piano music of the French composer.

Really wonderful. I've heard many recordings of this work, but hearing this one honestly makes me feel as if I've heard it for the first time. Amazing.

arrgh! The camera cut away from his hands during the last and most spetacular double glissando! I wanted to see him play it, not his compressed lips! But, what a wonderful performance this is,
@djmotise
@djmotise 4 жыл бұрын
It's not that the camera "cut away." It's that Bertrand or the producers chose not to use the footage in the editing stage for some reason. I'm pretty sure it was not shown for a reason.

Yeah that was kind of disappointing. It makes more sense for the camera to be focused on the performer's face during the expressive parts, and on the hands during the technical parts. After all, virtuosity comes from the fingers, not the face. Either way, though, I still consider this to be the definitive performance of this amazing piece.

maybe he cheated by using two hands? but the producer did show the very difficult repeated notes, which is even harder, so I’m happy.

Behp;!old! Yet ANOTHER pianistic genius to mtake his plc in the now-overcrowded Pantheon prof Great Masters ofhe Instrument. The splendid, sparkling rendition of The Jester's Morning Song rivals LIPATTI'S for its delicate-yet-dazzling multi-colored tonal shading that somehow manages to be as touchingly affective as it is brilliant -- just as I'm sure Ravel intended. "BRAVO! BRAVISSIMO!," he shouted as tears streamed down his cheeks.

Bravo - one of the best recordings I have ever heard! Finally, a clean, vivacious, technically perfectly mastered and beautiful interpretation of this fantastic piece. Btw: also the footage is a tiny optical masterpiece - very well done.

I am fascinated by his third glissand's turn at the lower keys, so fluid, swift, incessant like a turning merry-go-round toy - exquisite. Glissandos make my fingers bleed (especially the middle finger) while practising and the white keys get coloured with red spots.

I read that to do those double glissandos/glissandi he had to call his brother Maurice down from upstairs to play the upper part. Rachmaninoff did the same with his brother Pavel to play the middle melodies while Sergei played the outer parts...

Why do so many pianists play such harsh staccato in the first couple of bars? In the score, there are staccato marks only from bar 12 on.
