I'll sell you mine. The Detroit Diesel DD15 in the Cascadia is one of the worst designs ever. I've spent more in under 2 years on this truck in just repairs than I did in repairs and purchase of my 1999 Freightliner Century with a Caterpillar C12.
I advise against ever buying one of these, but you can buy mine. I only owe $47,800. Come get it.

I think these kinds of 4 axle trucks sold on the west coast are all used Swift trucks. The wiring harnesses seem to all be failing when the trucks are 3 to 5 years old.

I have a 2006 century 12.7 Detroit and I had my mechanic replace the bugs for the people that know what I'm talking about and never had a problem. Pull containers, flatbed. vans etc.. the reason the harness go bad is because the amount of heat the regeneration system creates. The wires get toasted and they fail. The reason is that you make the service dealers rich with a lot of repairs.

Dude never ever buys from swift, cr England, us express, and Warner trucking. They drive the shit out these trucks the first 400,000 miles. If they don’t encounter any problems with it they gave it to the solo drivers OTR. First 400,000 they gave it to team drivers and go all over the country with these trucks.

I have a 2016 freightliner Cascadia with the DD15, and I've had 0 issues with the motor or a or any censors, currently has 580000 KM. The real problem you got is the fact that it's a 2012. They are LOADED with emissions related problems from early experimental devices. Why do you think 2012 and 2011 freightliners are $10,000 cheaper than other models? there's a reason for that.

First thing you should’ve done is taken that truck to a reputable underhanded mechanic and have the emissions system ripped out of that truck. You bought that truck so you can have a successful business don’t let anyone including the EPA get in your way of your success. I guess the next thing you need to learn is how to start a battery fire. Lol
@Hanibul_Lecktor
@Hanibul_Lecktor 4 жыл бұрын
Illegal asf, you can't rip the emissions out and run the west coast period. By now you've seen the lawsuits flying against companies that do this. They're taking their business files and going after their customers and shutting them down. The motor installed has to meet emissions of that motor hence gliders are a thing. You can not take a CMV late model truck and take out the egr, scr or dpf system. #Rookie

Buying a truck from swift, 1st mistake. Buying a 2012 truck 2nd mistake, stay away from every truck including KW and PT, why? We all know they started to add the DEF on every diesel trucks on 2011 and 2012 obviously that system wasn’t perfectly developed, on those 2 years they were experimenting with it. As years went by they got better at it. Believe me I learned it the hard way, I was also an owner operator. Buy a truck with less than 450000 on it, freightliner, Kw, Peterbilt or Volvo, stay away from international. try to obtain the maintenance records on it, and find somebody that will delete all the emission crap of the truck (egr, dpf, and def) the truck will run like a dream.

And does it have DEF? if so that could be a lot of issues? Is it automatic? But Detroit diesel is pretty good but they killn these engines with emissions. And seens to me the Detroit engines in casscadias isnt the same as 60 series. I think they r designed to shift at lower rpm just like them dam automatics and that's killn a diesel engine. A diesel engine is a hell of an engine and when it breathes right that sukah will run
@JosephArata
@JosephArata 5 жыл бұрын
@@marcuscrossgrove6272 emissions systems aren't "killing" engines. These new DD15s are expected to run for 1.2m miles before overhauling, if properly maintained. That is, if you don't have yahoo steering wheel holders driving the truck with a check engine light till the ACM or ECM derates the vehicle to 5 mph, or driving the truck 100,000 miles before getting its oil changed, when it was supposed to be changed at 75,000 miles.

I work on trucks for a living. DO NOT buy or lease anything from a freight hauling corporation. The fleet trucks are minimally taken care of to last the length of the manufacturer warranty, which is 500,000 miles. ALL of the DD15s made before 2014 have the old crap turbo and egr valve actuator setup on them, with the crap 3 filter fuel filter housing. Most of these trucks have not had the updated 2 filter housing or egr actuator put on them yet. They are a rolling time bomb for parts replacement. If you are going to lease purchase or buy used, ONLY buy one from 2014 and newer. There are still electrical module issues with the newer trucks, but 90% of the mechanical issues have been fixed with redesign parts.

I'm a roadside teach, FL has more problems over nothing than the others from what I've seen. But yeah I would find a new mechanic, but then again I fix my own junk and that is how I got here is not trusting others to do something I could figure out myself. Cracks me up how many truckers can't or don't really even know how to deal with their own tire changes, so I get woke up to deal with that and derate issues that I have to reset. Freightliner frames are generally thinner than the other names as well, always easier to cut through than say a Mack...... I wouldn't use a FL for anything but to part out, I've never resold a whole one, but I don't usually sell anything whole anymore it's usually parts.

Josh Nichols , I owned a 2010 Freightliner Cascadia, with Series 60 motor,everyone tells me it’s the best motor,when I bought it new the dealership or what I called a stealerships advised me to get it service only at dealerships. Well I did just that, the first problem started at 135000 miles with replacement of a condenser, then 8 months later an EGR cooler went out. Not a problem it’s still under warranty, than it went down hill from there. I only had it serviced at dealerships. The mechanics at the dealership tries to tell me perhaps I swapped parts or had a mediocre shops worked on it. I showed them all the receipts. After 295354 miles I gave up on the truck. I paid the truck off and got rid off it.

I help maintain a fleet of about 30 of these trucks and there is no way in hell I would buy one. We have four nice Cascadia’s that are now junk with low miles due to the suction manifold which are plastic breaking on the high pressure side locking the engines up not to mention bad CpCs causing all kinds of problems and you can’t find the parts to fix them and when you do you’re paying triple the cost for a used one that’s been repaired. I see 90s model trucks coming in the shop for routine maintenance and minor repairs they’re out there working hard getting it done Probably not getting as good a fuel mileage but most of these old trucks are paid for keeping them running is a lot cheaper than making payments on one of these and trying to keep it running. One of our local customers dropped off a 95 freightliner FLD with a 12.7 Detroit a real Detroit that’s not built by Mercedes like a dd engine. He bought it for 2500 bucks and had to drag it out of the woods it was covered in moss and mildew. I thought you have to be kidding me we’re actually going to work on this old parts truck. He said he wanted it fixed and roadworthy as fast as possible and we kind of laughed. Previous owner told him the engine was blown it was partially disassembled and the turbo was laying in the floorboard. We put it back together and put a couple of batteries in it and it started right up and ran like a top Aside from the turbo slobbering a little oil. We replaced the turbo with a reman completely serviced the truck all new tires kingpins and brakes replaced a couple of AC lines and pressure wash the entire truck with degreaser and it actually looked pretty good. I think he spent about $11,000 at our shop getting it ready to go plus the 2500 he paid for it that truck has been making money for a year and a half now and he’s slowly fixing it cosmetic wise as he’s driving it. Now that’s a cost-effective Truck.

$4k for a few wiring harnesses? Thats highway robbery. I just checked on ebay and they range from $150-$400 each and you can install them yourself for free. Before blowing money on harnesses you should spray all the connections with contact cleaner first to see if that solves your problem. If youre someone who is not mechanically incline there is no way in hell you should be buying your own truck.

my dad and I were owner/operators and had three trucks. One with an N14, one with a DD15, and one with a S60. What we found is that their reliability and time between repairs always changed depending on who was driving our trucks. These things are workhorses, but they need to be cared for. How you handle yourself and your equipment especially going up hills like mt. needle in Cali makes a huge difference on the overall reliability and longevity of these engines.

Fuel wise ALWAYS add fuel modifier ALWAYS! this is the most important part. 2017 Cascadia 77k HP fuel pump went out due to low quality fuel across states especially Loves and Flying J, we add 1 Qt per 100gal in ours with Lucas. Thats $8 per 100gal but it will save you tons of problems! Stay positive and dont lose hope. In other words dont expect problems and they wont show. Petro and TA got good fuel. Always fill at 1/4 not less. God bless.

Well, I think you should find some different kind of work. Hauling containers don't pay much. That's your first problem right there. I own a 2010 cascadia, and I agree with you, these dd15 engine has design flaws. The same thing tends to go wrong with all of them. Oil leak in same spot, egr system, egr actuator, delta pressure sensor, oil pick up tubes, wire harness, quantity control valve, ambient temperature sensor, hydraulic clutch, windshield leaking, annoying vibration, etc. Got tired of the regen system acting up and did a delete. No more problems there. I can just about listen to another cascadia running at a truck stop and be able to tell the driver exactly what's wrong with his truck. Wish I had bought a different truck, but I'm stuck wit the one I have, plus I've already spent too much money on it now to get rid of it. I'll have a brand new truck by the time I finish replacing everything on this mofo. And if you have a 2011 or older cascadia, the parts for the engine seem to be extremely pricey because you have to get a update kit to replace the parts to the newest style. part $400, updated bracket $1200. sensor $16, sensor harness $85, when the old style just had the sensor.. crazy

Not without a bunch of modifications anyway! Double frame, 46,000 lb diff's & 14,000 minimum steer axle, all neoprene bushings, beefed up torque rods, stainless steel kingpin bushings, and at least a 13spd tranny, big radiator, tanker fith wheel, 1/2" airlines connecting all the airbags, heavy-duty hydraulic shocks. And we haven't even spec'd the engine yet...lol. Waaay too much money to invest in a former Swift truck! Makes me pucker just saying Swift 🙈

@@MrBigR928 Who in their right mind buys a Cascadia cough AHEM Crapcadia. Those things are only good for about the first five years Swift Jb and Schneider put them in service .......Definetly not worth it for an owner operator. Want a Freightliner ??? Buy one 2005 and older. That’s when they were still Freightliner’s. Nowadays they’re owned by Daimler, the same company that owners Mercedes and Chrysler. All they build is junk. The new Detroit DD15 engines are nothing more then a rebranded Mercedes engine. Overly complicated and won’t last a million miles like the old Freightliner’s would last. I remember driving that old Freightliner’s, one time I drove one with 1.2 million on the clock. The thing was still going. Detroit 12.7 and a 13 Speed. Try doing that with a new Cascadia. Good luck

Sorry for your experience. You are not alone though. The government has ruined the industry. Epa is a joke! Do they really think getting 3,4 years out if these trucks is green? Look at pre 03 trucks, most get over 1 million miles easily. Mine has 1.7 million miles and has never been opened up. Theres a reason why the market is flooded with 300-600k mile trucks going for 8-$16,000. I hope nothing but good things in your future. Keep your head up.

The reason why the trucks are on the market at 400,000-600,000 miles is because of manufacturers warranty. Large fleets get rid of trucks that are at or past the warranty to save operating costs. Emissions equipment has absolutely nothing to do with it. Properly maintained, a DD15 will effectively run for 1,200,000 miles before needing an in-frame overhaul. You aren't ever going to find a properly maintained fleet truck that is owned by a multi-million dollar freight hauling corporation. Hence why the used market is saturated with raggedy fleet trucks that were abused by corporate steering wheel holders. I repaired Cascadias for a large corporate fleet for 3 years, so I speak from experience. The drivers will drive the vehicle till the wheels fall off and the truck stops moving.
@James-ol6rw
@James-ol6rw 2 жыл бұрын
That’s a sad story. I think this is common with any used semi. They are traded by the big fleets when they get close to the end of warranty, usually around 400,000 miles. Or if low miles, the truck has proven to the fleet that it’s a lemon, and guaranteed , will give you trouble. Sorry to hear of your trouble.

Just give it back and cut your losses. Get hired on with a company that pays better. Leasing from a company is a joke, either be a company driver, or run your own authority, but at this point, your only option is to get on as a company driver. Sorry you are going through that, it sucks. My first truck was a great deal, until it started needing repairs. $27k for the truck and $30k in the first 4 months for repairs, quickly sold it for a loss and now I only buy brand new trucks, and run my own authority.

Well at least that isnt hanging over your head anymore. Dont listen to what these fuck sticks say, they guy who claims he never runs for less than $5 a mile is full of shit, unless he's running 40 miles a day. Flatbed, Van, Reefer, RGN, all pay different rates, in different lanes, and at different parts of the year. You are running the I5 corridor ? Pulling what? Are you ONLY allowed to haul for the company you are leased on to? I run 4 flatbeds in the Western 11, and right now, our goal is to get $2 or better per mile, and we never take a run that isnt at least 500 miles, unless it pays more than $2, mile. Basically, you want to bill $1k per day 5 days a week, anything more than that is gravy. As far as trucks, I run 2016 and 2017 Pete 389's with Cummins 550hp, and 2017 and 2018 Kenworth T680's with Cummins and auto shift. I JUST ordered a 2019 Freightliner Cascadia with the DD15, which is how I came across your video looking into DD15 problems. Each truck is different, I had a cummins in the shop with 40k on it needing a new head. If you want to talk more, not in youtube comments, you can reach me at sslogisticsaz at g mail .

On the good side re Freightliner Cascadia, been in a 2019 since last January, have put 180,000 miles on it since then, and haven’t needed to get it into the shop once during that time.

Are you going to the same dealership for repair budd? I suspect they're not honest in fixing for what they charge you for. The dealerships are too expensive. Find a local guy who would charge you far less. Leave that low paying company and go to US Xpress but make sure you do all the talks and paperwork while still with your current so they don't put anything negative on your record just incase.

I work at a certain large well known corporation with several thousands of cascadia with the DD15, as a fleet technician, they all are very reliable, roughly 1% of the fleet are lemons, the most common issues are the injector connector tube seals, very easy repair. This company got rid of all the peterbilts, and and phasing out the kenworths and internationals. Very good trucks, unfortunately you seem to have gotten a lemon.

FL has a bad name for being junk and cheaply made. Man I hate to hear it has ruined you. I wouldn't have any emission truck at all, nothing newer than 2003 or early 2004. But repair after repair it may also be the shop you use is just plain bad or cares nothing about how much they take you for. I don't see how you guys don't just do the repairs yourself, I don't own something I can't fix myself weather it is a money maker or not I just can't afford to pay someone else for me to be lazy and not figure it out. But lastly why buy a truck from swift with the rep they have I wouldn't buy one to part out for a cheap deal even if I knew it came from them (I salvage just about anything).

just your luck. freightliner makes good trucks, but there are those bad apple that falls from the tree.. try to avoid buying a truck with so many sensors and other stuff. buy an older pre emission truck that will get you going before investing in a complicated truck. there are trucks out with simple less complicated electronics. cat, detroit s60, n14 should be on top of the list for any first timer or starting out with limitted resources. Get your own authority if you want to make the money, those leasing to a company will just pay those blood sucking mosquitoes.

As far as the electrical issues with the harness and sensor you can blame that on the states using calcium-chloride liquid deicer on there roads in the winter time. And it's a swift truck so it's pretty much a guarantee that truck seen plenty of winter, I had the same issue with my truck that ran nebraska to the east coast it's whole life and mine took a shit in New Jersey where the labor rate should be illegal!!! cost me 4k in repairs and a little over 1k for hotel room and food... Luckily I had means to cover the bill... But fuck oowwwccchhh!!!! I made a lot of money with my cascadia but I also have put money into also.. Cost of doing business with a used piss bottle truck.. Hope everything has turned around for u... If not find a big strong oak tree and introduce it to your truck and chalk it up and start fresh!!

You have your math wrong. When you say you've put 50k in repairs back into the truck, that's not accurate. You put 50k into someone's pocket to repair your truck. From the sound of things, not a lot of that 50k made it into the truck repair. 50k would pay for an entire engine rebuild, AND trans rebuild, with all new wiring and hoses. if you spend 50k on this and that, without keeping track, without isolating the source first, without identifying the root cause, no one at the shop is going to turn you away, they'll start buying you donuts and make you their shop mascot.
