I have to thank you for your videos. Last night one of our goats had triplets. Of course right in the middle of the cold and two were in very bad shape. We brought them inside to warm up and stimulated like you showed. This morning all three are doing good with full warm tummies. Thanks again.....

It's so heart warming to see that (although you're in a vulnerable and emotional state for all to see) we can see how very much you care about all your goats and that these animals are so blessed to have you be there for them and raise them to be well-balanced and healthy goats into adulthood from kidhood. :)

You never really know how scary pulling babies is until you have to do it yourself. I’ve only ever had to pull one kid and I hope I never have to again! I cried like a baby after, so I understand your emotion. Thank you for being so transparent with your viewers and allowing us to see the side of farming that most others don’t get to. Great job, Crystal!

This scared the (poop) out of me (the word is probably the the same as me if not another four letter word). I dropped more tears 😭 seeing this and hearing the words “cut”. You all endured a lot with this princess May. I can definitely see why she adores you at kidding time comes around. I said it the last video, I will say it again, you are AMAZING!! Derek, Daren, Emily!! You all are awesome too support her emotionally and mentally during this hard labor. Mayo’s little sister Maile (maybe as a name) have the same dire situation but are here to rule the dairy goat farm!! She is a keeper cause she definitely looks like mom, if you choose to. Great job you all!! Praying the rest of the kidding goes smoothly. ❤️🙏🏽🤗

I've also assisted in a complicated goat birth, it's kind of a long story and had a happy/sad ending. (Thank you @BlueCactusDairyGoats if you read the whole thing! You're amazing!) 🙏🏻💛 This all happened when I was about 14-15 almost 10 years ago. (Wow!) My overall knowledge about goat births was little to nothing, but I felt that I went off of instinct and the outcome was probably better off since I was there in the first place. We were watching our neighbors' goats while they were out of town and they had left us with basic food and water instructions, along with telling us that their two goats would give birth any day while they were gone! It was exiting and I didn't really expect anything to go wrong, but of course you just never know with any birth process if everything will be perfect. Our neighbors had left on their vacation, and a few days into watching them, I arrived one morning to feed them when there was a new baby! One of the two mother goats had given birth in the night all on her own and the little buckling wad happy and healthy, dry and standing up! The mother seemed to be doing just fine, but I knew that there had to be another baby coming since I knew that it was most common for goats to have two babies at a time. But after a while, I noticed that she was uncomfortable and in pain, screaming and crying. I can't remember if she was pushing or if she was just in pain. After a few hours (not knowing much of anything about goat births and acting purely off of instinct and my gut feelings about the situation we were in) I eased her gently but firmly to the ground since she kept running away from me (understandably, I'm not her usual care-taker) and I was the first to go in and I immediately knew something was wrong. The baby was slimey inside and I didn't feel any hair, hooves or life/movement from the kid. All I felt was a slimey body, like where the ribs and tummy was. Looking back at that moment, I'm surprised the baby was all in one piece. You'll see what I mean... I couldn't grab the baby and get it out since my arm was probably too short or something, so one of my mom's friends (who also didn't know much about goat births) went in after me and retrieved a stillborn baby. It wasn't even full term, it was really sad (and gross, I don't know how the mother kept two babies in there like that, one baby just fine and healthy with a deceased and decaying sibling, yikes) Maybe you have experienced something like this before? Let me know if you know what we were dealing with and if we did everything correctly. I named the surviving baby Joseph (from the Bible "Joseph the miracle child" with the coat of many colors) and the deceased baby Annabelle (assuming it was a girl since we didn't know the gender. I named it to honor it and then we burried her). After analyzing the whole situation, I made an uneducated but logical guess that the stillborn somehow stopped receiving nutrients from the mother perhaps from the umbilical cord becoming detached from the baby about half way through the pregnancy (the stillborn was at least half the size of the surviving kid, maybe even smaller) This all really happened, I can't make any of this up! It was a big learning lesson for me as one who dreams to have her own herd someday. I feel as though if I could do something like that at the age of 14/15 and saved a mother and kid's life without any prior training or knowledge, that I can do it with many more in the future but first to learn all the goat shepherd ways before I have my own herd someday! I really would love to have my own goats someday! Funny that my name happens to be Heidi, haha. If I lived closer I would have definitely asked to see if you could teach me all the goat-raising ways and have you mentor me before having my own herd someday! I live in Mesa, AZ right now and we definitely don't have the means or the land to have goats at the moment, but someday we will! :) I would feel so privileged and blessed to meet you and your family someday! (Yes, goats especially included! Haha)

You did an amazing job as such a young lady with no experience! Not many would be able to do what you did. Not to mention at such a young age! You should be very proud of yourself and you need goats!! I hope you have them soon! If one of the babies were under developed then something happened before you had a chance to save it. Be very proud you saved one, then noticed something was wrong, and on to save the mama! Not all kids will develop at the same rate. Kids that are compromised in the uterus will have delayed development. Fetal kids must have enough room for the placenta to fully develop inside the uterus in order to receive enough nutrition to develop properly. Goats have two horns in the uterus. There is no problem with space if there is just one kid in each horn. However when 2 or more kids are developing in a horn, not all may have enough space. These kids will be smaller at birth and may not be as developed. Lack of space for the placenta and therefore lack of nutrition may even cause the fetus to die.

So glad it turned out ok. My girl Phoenix (who looks just like May, and the triplets look just like her twins lol) had the same issue with her triplets. 1st buck came breach with one leg back and took us 30 min. To pull. 2nd a doe flew out right after then the 3rd a doe came head back. I cried so hard that night. Then shortly after birth the little buck was so weak from his delivery when I got up to get her some water she layed on his front leg and he was to weak to move so now he has perminant nerve damage to his leg. He does get around quite well though. Thank you for sharing the good and the bad times it has helped me when I have needed it. And great job to the Mr. For being a great coach through it.

I had nubian/lamancha when I first got goats. One of my does went into labor while I wasn't there. When I finally got her up to the barn where I could see all I could feel was a huge mass. We pulled and we worked so hard on her before we finally went to get her a csection. The kid had hydrocephalus and his head was just way too big to push out. When they went to wake up the doe she died on the table. It was the worst night of my life. I understand the stress and the horror you felt. I'm so happy she made it out and everyone is ok. Another night and you and those darn goats drew tears from me! Mayo is the best!!! I'm so happy I'm watching these after the fact just because I can know Mayo and the others are ok later. It takes a special kind of strength to live birth an animal! Congrats on all your Shamozes (sp?) this year! They are gorgeous!

I'm REALLY glad for the video earlier this week... it made watching this MUCH easier! Also, if you end up keeping May's mini me she should be named Melee (def: a confused fight, skirmish, or scuffle🙃). Also, thank you for recording as much as you do... it's beneficial to see ALL aspects of goat life rather than just end products! 💕

You're so right! Some goats take longer than others. I'm a really old goat. 60! If I had a baby I would want you by my side.

As a breeder of cavalier King Charles and havanese for many many many years . Retired now, I love watching the similarities and the stress. It’s heart warming to know how much you love your babies. It’s how I was , had to be completely involved and became horribly emotional when it came to dilemmas. Through the years , saved many babies because I was there and the animals know it. That’s the magic. I’m hooked and would love to see the new babies in a couple months before they go to their new homes. Thanks for the videos.

This was a scary labor indeed! But you knew exactly when to intervene, and that's why you're the best goat momma for this herd. You know your girls!!! I am so happy for you, doing what you did with such confidence and expertise, you were smooth in your movements. I cried AGAIN with you!!! You certainly affect me Crystal, I can't say that about very many people I follow on KZbin. I enjoy EVERY video you release, keep them coming!!!!

I been waiting all day for this video. Such an emotional birth. Thankful you were there. Can’t wait to see Val’s birth. Can we get an update on her four? I’m hoping the tiny one makes it.
