I will get adaptor from local shop so atleast I can fit the TTS decoder I bought for it. They do some very good stuff, then bugger up other things. It's just the shear fact I even emailed them to confirm what socket was in this loco. And they confirmed back 8, which is wrong. That really has F'ed me off big style, how incompetent that really is from their so called Technical Team. It's really poor. Thanks again, cheers Kevin 🙋‍♂️👍🤝

Bachmann have some amazing models, i have a large amount of their products in my collection, the prices they want for their items is a joke, i don't have a money tree in my garden. The re released Windhoff MPV was about £80 - £100 when it first came out 8ish years ago, it back out again using what i believe is the same moulding for £270 (discounted) without sound, £350 (discounted) with sound, biggest piss take by Bachmann ever!!!!!!!!

@StormmyStormmy I've got the original MPV but only bought when basically "they were giving them away" in a sale. There's no way I would ever pay those kind of prices. And I'm not sure who actually would!! Cheers Kevin

​@@StormmyStormmy I got mine for £99 of Ebay. I know what you mean about Bachmann's prices! Though I managed to get a second hand never been used experiment class 24 for £91 of Ebay, so about half of what Bachmann want for it.

Hornby customer service is incredibly poor. They clearly don't take the time to properly describe their models on the website, and the customers service advisors seem to be just as ill informed. At least you got a reply. I never received a reply from my email in January.

Their total disregard for accurate descriptions of their items is a huge mistake. Who can have confidence in a company that shows little to no respect in its customers. Thank you so very much Alan for watching my video and comment. Its beyond a joke how this was so badly advertised. Hornby was a joke when I phoned them. Even when a customer pointed out so many times they had advertised this wrongly they still wasn't interested. Customer Service at its best!! NOT. Atleast in the end I got the TTS fitted by using the 21 to 8 pin adaptor. But it did cost me extra when it shouldnt have. All the best Alan, cheers Kevin 👨‍🔧🛠🤝👍

At some point they changed from 8 pin to 21 pin. Vids dated about 2020 clearly show 8 pin on these class 66 models. Fortunately I just got mine from Rails of Sheffield at a keen price with 21 pin decoders. And yes it is a budget model but some of the detailed models are really over the top now in price, or maybe it is just me getting old remembering getting a class 20 3 rail in 1962 for 17/6 or something similar. (It was probably more but a pint of beer was less than 2 bob!) And what is throwing me is the need for all the electronics on a blanking plate? Looks like a decoder in itself. Don't tell the Russians they will want the models for the chips.

What p'ed me off was it advertised everywhere as 8 pin & Hornby also giving me false info. Atleast I got it sorted with the adapter. @@bluebellcentralmodelrailwa4064 You are welcome. I suspect like me you are keen on the hobby but don’t need to count the rivets to enjoy it and prefer it at a fair price. It would be so easy to get carried away and spend a fortune but to me that isn’t the point. As I fast approach 80 I will be happy if my young grandchildren in Canada get their hands on the stuff. Their father, my youngest son was a conductor/guard on CN freight trains. Riding the cab at the front of 2 km long trains with 2 to 5 locos in the consist, travelling the route of the Rocky Mountaineer and getting paid!

Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your background to modelling with me & about your family. Must have been a great job & responsibility your son had. Hope your grandchildren will keep up the hobby, hopefully they will start to show more interest. But children now a days arnt like we used to be. Im 61 & have a son just turned 36. Hes no interest in trains, but he was brought up in the computer age, so he has his playstation5 to occupy his time. Hi, good review, I had a similar issue with their Platinum Jubilee hst set, it was advertised as an 8 pin everywhere, it was a 21 pin socket, TMC confirmed it for me before I purchased it, such a shame that communication is poor between the company and the advertising company. My advice is to ask the people your buying from to check for you, thanks for sharing.

I posted a positive review of an item 6 months ago, got a reply confirming my review, they still haven’t posted it yet, I’m not impressed with Hornby to be fair, I will only by their products if they’re in a sale or heavily reduced, I hope you get your issue sorted.

The thing is I did ask the question from Hornbys home page on this loco. Was it 8 pin, & as I showed in my video I did get a reply back saying "Yes I would need an 8 pin decoder to work on DCC" this is why I said they lied to me

I have a pack of LAIS 8 to 21 pin adapters they have better clearence than the gaugemaster ones, But a pain none the less Buy it`s the kind of lack of knowledge i`ve come to expect of Hornby. I`ll only use them if theres no alternative.

i feel bad for the guy, not only did he buy an awful quality model he was lied to about the decoders. Really should've bought Bachmann's class 66 it's much better build quality.

That’s pretty poor of Hornby. Here in Australia we could lodge a complaint with Fair Trading and they would then investigate and Hornby could be slapped with a hefty penalty for False Advertising

Even though wrongly Advertised they say its a mistake & I can return for full refund. But I said I wanted the model, so that wasn't an option. Hornby still havnt amended their website or posted now 3 reviews I've given. Just shows any true information and criticism they won't post on their website. Grumpy is the dwarf in the brown hat and red tunic but you don’t need that to pick him out of a crowd. He’s easy to spot because he’s the one with his arms crossed in a huff and giving his fellow dwarfs annoyed looks. Deep down he’s a good guy but it takes a lot for him to show it.

Think to probably be truth is....Was meant to be 8pin (as advertised for past 2years) but since all their new stuff this year onward is meant to be 21pin. I think Hornby have taken THE CHEAPEST OPTION for them & just pushed this out to us all with the GENERAL 21pin chassis set up that's now in production. THEYRE to me MONEY GRABBING B's that rip us all off at the earliest opportunity. Will be getting an adaptor so I can fit these TTS decoders I bought for the original loco.
