The more I listen to this orator the more I hear mistakes and errors. First and foremost the TPLF in 1991 never had the power nor wherewithal to tell or give the EPLF or Eritreans Independence. His error at 11:19 and at 22:41 of the video where he stated that the... "TPLF government decided to give Eritreans their independence?!!!" Factually and historically wrong! The EPLF (Eritrean Peoples Liberation Front) helped the TPLF ( Tigrai Peoples Liberation Front) militarily and politically to defeat the Derg Regime in Addis Ababa. The EPLF in the 1970's militarily trained and politically educated the EPLF fighters in Nakfa to fight the Derg regime inside Ethiopia. When the Derg regime militarily over powered the TPLF in the battle for Shire in February 1989, the EPLF artillery support had to intervene to defeat the Derg and to capture the whole of Tigrai province. EPLF tanks marched in Addis Ababa in 1991 and liberated the Ethiopian capital from the Derg regime. Eritrean fighters fought and died in Ethiopia to get rid of the Derg Regime and helped the TPLF assume power in Addis in 1991. Clearly in 1991 EPLF had the upper power to do whatever it wanted in Addis after it defeated the Derg regime. EPLF could have stayed in power in Addis but it chose to hand power to TPLF because EPLF had a principal to uphold. Even after defeating the most Powerful military in Africa at the time, the EPLF chose to legitimize Eritrean Independence through fair elections (referendum). In 1993, under the supervision of the UN Observer Mission (UNOVER) and international observers Eritreans overwhemingly, 99.8%, voted for independence! So Eritreans, after they were denied their independence by the UN and the US in the 1950's, fought for thirty years, against all odds, and achieved their freedom and independence in 1991. No one country or nation gave Eritrea its independence! Eritreans earned their right of independence and freedom through their own strong will, sacrifice, struggle and determination! The second error he made at 12:40 is the Ogaden war did't take place In 1997, it was 1977. Of course there are more mistakes he made and I'll try to correct them as soon as I get a chance in the future.

This is insane. I have seen this video 3 times and the history flow is good until the speaker twisted the most important part of the history. After the independence, All the problems came and started in 1998 when the Ethiopian regime announced war against Eritrea. I don’t understand Why do you choose not to say something about this 3 stages of war that cost those countries their hope to development. This is the main reason that makes Eritrea poor and the national service extended for over 18 months and undefined just to protect the country from a big country next to it. With the help of UN Ethiopia couldn’t agree to the binding Algers agreement between those 2 countries. You have been missing so most important moments that shapes this country to where it is now. Might just be a mistake on one end or the other. Had a form in my grandfathers PIF where he was engaged in a kamikaze attack against his ship in 1844. Sometimes we just get records that are wrong. Or, all the numbers are right, and they were still there afterwards. Could be any number of things. But, if you're an American, I'd suggest checking the National Archives. catalog.archives.gov/ Looking around I found my grandfathers entire service in WW2, the entire military careers on ancestors in the Civil War, and some immigration paperwork from when my family originally came over during the Revolution. He suggested that the TPLF and Eritrean government should have been natural allies based on ethnicity in 2020 which should have prevented the war. They haven't been anywhere close to allies for over 25 years and the idea that they should be allies because parts of Eritrea are ethnically similar to Tigray is wishful thinking and excludes the various geopolitical and historical issues in the region. My point is if you're going to make a video about this kind of topic, you should be buttoned up and crisp on your understanding of the situation. Everybody knows the situation in Eritrea is not great.

@@RealTalk2000 Leaving pronunciation aside, his analysis of the situation was spot on. If you listen to the build up of the recent conflict, he begins by mentioning that Ethiopians were upset with the ruling Tigray government, which was a point of ethic conflict. As an outsider watching the events, anyone would assume that ethic peoples side with each other in conflict. It isn't unreasonable for someone to place emphasis that the people fighting are from the same ethic group. It would make news if Kurds in Turkey and Iraq started fighting each other or if Armenians in Armenia and Iran went to war.

@STS-u1r I hear you and agree that this surface level analysis would be valuable for outsiders. With that said there are multiple instances of people from similar ethnic groups fighting (see Somali, Sudan and even Russia/East Ukraine and spots in the Middle East). Again, my point is if you're an outsider attempting to paint a picture of what is going on within another country, these mistakes/gaffes hurt the message, even if the message is generally "correct". The 1st time he showed Sebhat Ephraim and called him Isaias was a small gaffe but he did it again at the 7:03. At that point, I had to question if this video is serious or not.

I'm Eritrean. I was working as health worker in one of the biggest hospitals in the country. Thanks for covering our problems in depth. Our problem is far worse than north korea. In north korea at least their government provides the people basic human needs like, food, health care, water, electricity, transportation ...etc. In Eritrea the dictatorial regime even could not maintain the factories, electricity supply, water supply and infrastructure that we inherited from the colonizers. They turned our country to open prison, less 1% get internet coverage, people live in fear, that's why our people are desperate to live the country. Almost 1/3 of our people left Eritrea because our lovely country turned to hell by the dictatorial regime. Like any Eritrean youth I have to pay some to help me cross the border at night, crossing the border was on one of the most traumatic event of my life. Before we cross the border wild animals including Hynes followed us for more than 30 minutes. After we cross the boarder to sudan, we were kidnapped by Rashida armed group and we have to pay ransom to be released.

If the western media say something negative about one country trust me there is a lots of good things that we know about that country! 1. Where a country located. A very strategic place. North Korea, Taiwan, Eritrea, Djibouti (which all western have a military camp) thats the reason why they didn't do anything against them, Yemen, Egypt and so on. Those who black mailed by the western are in sanctions, those country which they stand with them are free but they don't have power to do their own agenda. Example: they can't be friends with the enemies of western like Russian, China.... 2. A country have lots of resources. Which the western want to take all the resource. Example: Iraq, Libia, Syria, Venezuela, Russia & so on. 3. A country which don't want to accept the western agenda. Example:- Libia (the had a plan to create african national bank by their own and the same currency. It create dollar out of the market in the continent .Eritrea: they choose friends with anyone who respect our sovereignty. They have clear policies of the land, sea, air not for sale, military camp not for any other country. They are against USAID, or from Europe.
