Sure it does. He's saying to wait until the down payment is a relatively small portion of your liquid investments.

If you like an 8% return on a relatively safe investment then put the down payment on buying the house. If you would rather grow your money faster in riskier investments (i.e. stocks) rent and just put the money you would've put down as a down payment into the 401(k) or stocks or whatever. You'll have a lot more money at then end of 30 years if you rent and invest rather than buying.
