Warren Haynes Talks Allman Brothers

We were lucky enough to have Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule and solo star Warren Haynes visit our new studios recently. In this exclusive interview, the guitarist talks about Gov't Mule's new star-studded album 'Shout!' and explains why we might finally be closer to getting the first new Allman Brothers record in more than 10 years.

I just met him at the Hangtown Music Fest in my hometown.. it was just random. He walked by me behind the VIP area. I was technically not supposed to be there, but there was no fence to stop me and I was just standing there. We briefly chatted and fist bumped and I thanked him for coming to our town with Govt Mule!

I think a lot of the best musicians really know their music history because they have so much love for it. Gregg Allman researched a ton of really, really old, almost forgotten blues songs to compile his last solo album of blues covers "Low Country Blues" RIP Gregg...

I was lucky enough to see the Mule do a show about six years ago and have watched a good many of their live videos since then and it occurs to me that they give 100% to every song at every show; I would guess it takes a unusual passion for music to maintain that kind of professionalism. Hats off to this obvious future hall of famer and his great bandmates.

I played in a band in North Carolina where our bandleader, a serious Warren Haynes fan, got the idea of holding an annual festival benefitting a local food bank from a festival Warren founded in Asheville. This will be the first year since it started in 2012 that it won’t happen. I now drive 600 miles each way every year to play in it.

I can't believe that anyone would ever pick Dickey over Warren. Have you listened to the Allman Bros recordings from the late eighties and nineties? Warren brought new life to the band and smoked Dickey Betts on live performances. Not even in the same league. As far as Duane goes, he is in a league of his own and can't be compared to anyone. Duane Allman was a huge influence to every blues guitar who came after.

Sad, Gregg allman gave them a career. Then him and the trucks kid deserted him. I lost a lot of respect for them. Govt mule tedeschi -trucks not a hit between em. The trucks kid he isn't much of a showman. A ton of killer guitarists out there. No uncle Butch, no ABB for that young man. Every interview with him. He knocks other players.

not sure what you are talking about - Gregg is in very bad health and he cant tour. Warren is great in and of himself and Tedeshi Trucks band has all kinds of hits and Duane didn't move much either - Derek is an incredible player.
