Irreplaceable, irrepressible, incredible...The greatest, most talented, gifted rock musician to ever grace a stage. Warren Zevon is more than a legend, he is an Absolute. The apex. None better. None more talented. None more amazing. None more deserving of our appreciation. And a lousy, goddam 200+ likes? Well, what can I expect, in a world where ...*things* like the Kardashians have the entertainment press spellbound, and one "rock" song sounds just like the last one you heard. If THAT'S entertainment, I think I'll take up macrame. Rock the Pillars of Heaven, Mr. Bad Example! Save me a front row seat, cuz nobody lives forever.1

I don't expect people to know who he is, though they definitely know his lone hit without knowing the name behind it. Brilliant as he was you're not going to get a ton of airplay singing about murder, corruption, and war, and injecting black humor into everything.

@brendaharper5998 • Having come of age in the late 60's - early 70's I was and still am a huge Warren Zevon fan the man was a musical genius he could write a song so bizarre yet he could write a beautiful love song as well and then blow your ear drums and melt your face with powerful rockers. The last time I saw him live I never thought I would have never thought I wouldn't see him ever again. His music and songs were like a best friend that you wanted to see and hear all the time and I miss him no doubts about it. He and David Lindley probably have written something like 70,000 new songs now that they are together again. Can't wait it will be a hell of a show by the time I get there.

I miss Warren Zevon. Gone way too soon. Loved his turns on Letterman. Now if only someone would post Warren doing "The Hockey Song" on Letterman!

Thanks so much for posting this. I didn't know WZ had been on letterman so much until his last visit on the show. I've loved his music for ages. Mostly listened when my husband would put something on in the car. Then I heard he had cancer and was so so sad. Anyway, I'm glad I can see the old videos now because I missed out the first time. Great rapport .. loved Mr Zevon since he started .. Dave got past his ego and is a very good man and human being .. I listen to Warren or sing and play one of his songs most every day .. Like Mr Lennon, Z is ever in my awareness .. and like Mr Prine & Mr Nelson .. He is Always On My Mind ..

Considering he and Hunter S. Thompson were very good friends, I'd say so.

That cut to the Paul Schaeffer lookalike after Zevon misses the drinking music cue was pretty funny.

What a refreshing relief from Shaffer!! Would that Dave could dump Paul and find someone who isn't just musically gifted like Paul, but also able to contribute something useful and humorous to the show, without being an obnoxious interruption like Paul.
