Well that's exactly why he works so well with her, she was not the motherly type. She was hesitant about having kits because she loves to be productive and get on with stuff, she agreed because he took the chance to say he would gladly be the one to care for them full time after they stop needing her milk. Ivypool isn't the motherly type, her mate is and she loves him for it.

Something that Warrior Cats used to do was have all the queens share responsibility for taking care of kits. However, now it just seems like it is solely up to the kits mother. I think that the clans need more queens or kings like they had at first. During the first series when ThunderClan was tiny they had at one point 3 dedicated queens.

I don’t whanna sound obnoxious- but you have too admit first series was the best. The clans felt like actual communities, and things didn’t feel dragged out or boring. And the plot and every part of it felt so well crafted and amazing, unlike the later books which felt like they just wrote it as they went.

I saw the silhouette and I was like "is that Hawkfrost?" Bristlefrost does speak for a moment how she's close to Fernsong because he raised them most of the time, but that's all we got. Imagine if Lizardstripe had Fernsong . . . we wouldn't have evil Brokenstar, no Firestar, no everything. I really hope in Graystripe's Vow, with the excerpt that's on the Warriors Website, that Fernsong doesn't rebel for no reason - he's a nice guy, and every cat just blatantly disrespecting everyone doesn't seem like something he should condone, right?

I never realized Fernsong didn’t get to be a den-dad. I have only read 1 book in VoS (because I have to jump around in the series) and that book was River of Fire. So Ivypool had just given birth. But I’m now very upset Fernsong didn’t get to do what he promised to do. Everyone loves Fernsong for being a den - dad and being in the nursery with his kits, yet we never actually see this :( That's really sad in my opinion. And so many people say he's a trans girl - why? Can't a tom just be sweet and nice? 🤷‍♂️ In my story, I have many genuinely nice guys, and one who is a single dad actively taking care of his kits - something Fernsong could have been (without the single of course).

@@desire1410 I could see it as a way that it is toxic I mean for one, it makes lgbtq+ really forced in characters...and speaking from being in the community as a lesbian, I personally found it forced how people insist on Ivypool being a lesbian. I have met many girls, straight girls, who share a personality with Ivypool and relate to her because of that. So when people tell me that Ivypool acts lesbian to justify their belief that Ivypool is lesbian, that really kinda stings at both lesbians and women as a whole who don't necessarily fit feminine personalities. Likewise, not every lesbian has to be more Tom-boyish to be a lesbian. I mean, for one, it shouldn't be made that males characters can't be the equivalent of stay at home fathers. It takes a break at gender norms, specifically on what is consider male gender norms. But by making fernsong trans, it gives an implication that because being a stay at home parent is so feminine, males cannot possibly fill that role without something more, less masculine if that makes sense. That's like giving the same implication that a female can't have a more masculine job or role in society without being less feminine, such as possibly being transgender or a lesbian. That is the vibe it gives off to some people, and it does hurt the fandom a bit to see a male character having a feminine role, then the fandom chalks it to "oh no that character is mtf transgender so technically the role is being filled by a female." But I digress, headcannons are headcannons and it should've be too looked in at, but those are some implications that can be seen as toxic, if of course you see those implications. Personally, I don't care, as I really don't care for shipping or romance subplots, because wow are they so annoying like I hate dragging ships or underdeveloped ones and those are so there in warriors not to the point where it is unbearable but to the point where I just roll my eyes at this point like but that's just me.

I'm so glad that Warriors has a character that breaks gender rolls. AND ITS NOT A FEMALE! In modern times there are lots of "Strong Women" and they are looked up to, but if a Dad wants to stay at home they are called lazy, unmanly, and a burden on their working wife. If modern society is ever going to change we need more characters like Fernsong, minor unimportant characters in passing that might slowly change society before a main character is one. If we go too fast then people won't accept it, but fight it. And if people fight it then good book series will collapse, but if it works we could remove gender roles entirely! To any author hearing this, add somewhere in your story a stay at home dad, even if it's just in passing and help us remove these biases.

Agreed, I really hope stay-at-home dads get the respect they deserve and that it becomes a more widely accepted thing in literature and in real life. It's not easy caring for kids, and the double standard is really messed up. People should do what's best for them and not have to worry about being seen as lazy or a burden according to outdated societal pressures

I actually didn't mind that Ivypool spent her time in the nursery, mostly because she reminds me of my own mother. My mom was a paramedic (she's retired now, from age and disability) and when she was pregnant with me she planned on focusing mostly on her career. She says that when she gave birth to me, though, she felt this rush of contentment, like she could be happy as a stay-at-home mom taking care of the household. She couldn't be, because the house needed both my dad's income and hers, but sometimes priorities change, and that's normal. TL;DR my mom had the same thing happen to her, and it makes me soft
