I was on board with this ship since I watched this episode back then when season 1 came out. It was how they looked at each other. It reminded me of *Imagine me & you* when Luce says about love: "I think you know immediately. As soon as your eyes... Then everything that happens from then on just proves that you have been right in that first moment."

The blocking is meant to show that Beatrice has secrets. Ava says, "There's more to it then you're telling." Beatrice steps into darkness, and replies, "There always is."

I mean, Ava got paralyzed, then spent 12 years under the "care" of sister Frances, dies, comes back to life, only to get abducted by heavily armed nuns. They then tell her that demons are real and out to get her, while simultaneously telling her that she's unworthy, a sinner, and a coward. No wonder the poor girl ran away. And yes, Beatrice and Camila were nice to her, but no one can be nice enough to make up for Mother Superion, Lilith, and Sister Frances at this point. Considering all that, "I want to live" was a pretty nice thing to write before noping out of there. 😆

I didn't really appreciate it the first time I watched S1, but on re-watch I really respect the way they had Ava fight against the idea of being the Warrior Nun for as long as they did. Other shows would have had her accept her fate by the end of the first episode. It really makes a lot of sense, given her history, that she would see this second chance at life differently than the church does.

It's a very good twist on the hero journey, and it fits as Ava didn't really get to live out her life so realisticly won't immediately been enthusiastic about been something bigger like in Star wars , which makes Ava acceptance more earned.

I watched this show back when it was new, and I have to say that when Ava just instinctively embraced Beatrice, going to her for comfort, and solicited that shocked and then kind response from Beatrice, that hit hard. Ava really needed some love and solidarity, and Beatrice felt so withdrawn and bottled up even already. But her love was so close to the surface and pure. I was obsessed with their bond, even when I didn't think we'd ever get a ship.

i think it's really cool the detail to the "i want to live". not only is it written in bad handwriting because obviously ava never wrote before, but it is also a response to what mother superion said. ava sees staying there with the nuns as a death sentence, so she chooses to run which to her equals living. i think it's quite understandable!

I remember being curious enough to watch it. I reached episode 3 and thought “wait, did I accidentally stumble upon something gay?”. My gaydar has always been pretty bad. I just remembered the first time seeing their looks and stares… that I just stayed In denial. I thought “this seems kinda gay, but I’m just reading into it, they would never”. I was terrified it was queerbaiting. The story stuck with me, so I continued watching. I kept thinking I shouldn’t get attached. Seeing your reaction it’s just like reliving it 😂.

Yeah, definitely the first time I watched, I was like "wow, now that's gay". Also, I noticed how much more chemistry they had in those few minutes, than all the time with JC.

@@bloodmanor8 Yeah I think JC was just attractiveness and “experience” on Ava’s part, but with Bea there’s both and also the emotional attraction. Too put it simpler, Bea is the whole package 😂. JC = crush, Bea = love 🫶.

@@bloodmanor8 Ava had one inner monolog with Bea and it was when they were eating in the third episode. She thought Bea was the least hostile person there. But after that scene, we didn’t hear Ava’s inner monologue on Bea. I found that to be a good choice, it makes us wonder more. It became more of a mystery. We saw Ava more with her actions, but not with the full intel of her thoughts. And that made Bea much more different from JC as well. Ava was always more of a comical character, but removing her inner thoughts on Bea made it more serious.

thank you Adam I love that you're on ava's side as well bc some people were pissed at her for leaving but she just wants to live. like mother superior said 'do you want to live or die' for her to live was to stay and learn how to fight and fight and die if she leaves but for Ava is the other way around if she stay she will die ( again) young like shannon but if she leaves she have a chance to actually live her life

I think you hit the nail on the head. When S1 first aired a lot of people thought Ava was annoying but her character is true to life imo. If I lived 19 years as a quadriplegic then died and suddenly I was given a second chance, I'm not gonna second guess that and would do exactly what she did, LIVE! I like the parallel between her conversation with Father Vincent about the first warrior nun Ariella and how maybe she didn't ask for it and would have preferred to die on the battle ground. Which is much like her situation, she didn't ask for the halo and now she's being told what to do which is not her choice. Can't wait for you to see next episode, it's one of my fave of S1.

To be completely honest, i never understood how Ava was supposed to have killed herself. They said they found painkillers in her system but Ava couldn't move from the neck down so she couldn't have taken them herself, someone else would have had to give them to her.
