Now that I think about it, they totally fumbled a potential plot line. Trunks met supreme Kai, why didn’t he give Trunks the Z sword? Would explain how Trunks got strong enough to compete at current power levels. After the Kais were dead, black breaks Z sword, Elder pops up as last Kai, Trunks takes him and runs, then gets potential unleashed. New power up, fan service with old ability, and a sudo following in Gohans footsteps ( wrong Gohan but still ).
