bonus, the game she plays with the string is called cat's cradle: there's a set amount of patterns you must complete in a certain order or the string gets tangled, falls apart, and the game ends. i'm sure it was chosen for the multitude of stylistic possibilities but it's so fun to consider that athena takes a lot of pleasure in it BECAUSE it's so fixed. that characteristic becomes indicative of the mold she intends to fit odysseus to--his path is set, and it's set by athena!!

I feel the song is very out of place in the musical. It feels like it belongs either right at the start to stablish both Odysseus and Athena, or at some point in the first saga at least. It being in the middle of the second saga feels really weird because Athena is just telling Odysseus to not disappoint her in a very weird moment and then they just argue when he refuses to kill the Cyclops. I think if it goes to stage or movie, it may get moved around by some producer's input.

It would show his devotion at the beginning, then in open arms his devotion would slip, and by remember them his devotion would finally fall as he does an emotional and unwise act of defiance. But, the setup we have currently works just as well.

This is SO good! A lot of artists kinda forget the shitty, menacing, undertones of this song because young Ody and Athena are so cute. Like, Athena is unironically _awful_ in this part of the musical. She is a cruel, shitty, person, obsessed with her own ego and treating mortals like pawns to aggrandize her self. But you managed to find that perfect balance of still making their first meeting absolutely adorable while also keeping the underlying threat with the blood Athena played a very direct role in putting on Ody’s hands.

@@alkalimee Oh _absolutely._ One of my favorite animatics for "We'll be fine" has a moment where Telemachus says "I don't know who you're friend is and I don't know what he's like" and she looks genuinely guilty. Because, on some level, she understands that Telemachus not knowing his father is _her_ fault. She may not have directly made Odysseus go to Troy, but well... She wanted him to be the perfect warrior, a general, a leader of men. It doesn't take the goddess of Wisdom to know it was always her plan for him to go to war. A war that took 10 years from him, his son, and his wife. Even before the Cyclops, and the Storm. So seeing her accept that guilt, accept that she was _wrong_ and that she _mistreated_ Ody... It makes her so compelling.

RIGHT!! Warrior of the mind is so so catchy but if you take a closer look at the lyrics you can really see how - for a lack of better wording - apathetic Athena is. She treats Ody as if he’s an extension or her pet project, not his own person. This is most obvious in the lines “I see you changing from how I’ve designed you” and “have you forgotten your purpose? Let me remind you”

I love how _handsy_ your version of Athena is. I adore all versions of her where she tends to be aloof and distant, never touching anyone unless she must. But she has no problem caressing his face, like he really does belong to her and is something to mold and design. And it’s apparent when Odysseus wraps his arm around her as they walk and she removes it. It’s just absolutely fascinating how your take emphasized this dynamic for them, and he even seems angry and frustrated with what she demands of him, even as his patron goddess. Also, this adds some dimension to how she is a daughter of Zeus. If both he and Athena commanded Odysseus to kill the baby, it would not only corner his morals further, but highlight that all the gods are ruthless to the extreme. Also, because I enjoyed it so much, Odysseus mouthing along with Athena and what she says to his past self is reminiscent to his own bloodline connected to Hermes. I saw your WIP a couple weeks ago and seeing this is gorgeous. Excellent animatic!

I love how playfully Athena tells older Odysseus the whole "maybe one day he'll follow me" part while they're watching younger Ody like they don't already know how this ends up. It's this moment of camaraderie and levity among the other threats, and it's so silly and cute lol, like a glimpse into their relationship in other less tense moments. Also, older Ody's expression when he tricks Athena like "how did that work actually, omg wtf?"

Okay this one is joins the ranks of one of the best Epic animatics! I love the change of scene and having it be Athena that shows up in the infent scene, OR it can also be read as Odysseus having a dream about it given how the landscape looks. Its also wonderful to see the inclusion of Athenas other themes like weeving and arts, and the dynamic between her her and Odysseus is great! She does pull the cold,stoic teacher vibes yes, but you can also see theres quite a bond there, especially with how they act when she shows him the boar hunt. This animatic opened my eyes so much! The Horse and the Infant > Just A Man > Warrior of the Mind >Full Sped Ahead > Open Arms > Polyphemus It makes for such a deeper dynamic! Odysseus doubting himself, Athena immediately stepping in and telling him to do what must be done, the suspense of not knowing what happened as they sail home from war, Polites knowing that Odysseus is on edge but not knowing why and telling him to be kind, which then leads to Odysseus not using logical thinking in the cave and killing the sheep then attempting to "negotiate" with Polyphemus. Athena steps in one last time, telling Odysseus to do what must be done, but this time he refuses, and Athena abandons him for that refusal!

oh my word I love this SO MUCH-the way Athena is directing Odysseus via a chess game setup at the end is super cool, and the symbolism with the string (the way it became the hourglass, I'm in AWE) and how Ody mouthing along to Athena's words during the flashback scene-THE FLASHBACK SCENE AHHHH. This is beautiful

Wow. This is incredible. Giving Athena the string is amazing & honestly something I wish more people would remember about her, but even putting warrior of the mind at this point in the story makes so much more sense! Like... She's not telling him off for being nice to the lotus eaters, she's telling him to do the right thing by the gods & not risk the infant becoming a problem. And clearly the message does land as shown in the song after. Seeing the WIP version & then this one is really awesome, especially since with the change at the end it can actually fit in perfectly between the other two songs. Honestly could not praise this animatic enough, all the small details, it's incredible.
