Trump is like the least anxiety-ridden hearthstone player with that Banshee man. I never panic more than watching Trump put a Keeming Banshee into his deck. Its crazy how much he'll throw half his deck away for 5-10 damage.

Game 10 clearly showcased why. If you're not going to use half you deck (e.g. you have no card draw) then it doesn't cost anything. That 10 extra damage gave him lethal just as he was running out of steam.

He wants to play the Frostrider. Essentially, what the freeze mechanic does is prevent the minion from doing its next attack. Since he didn't attack with that minion during that turn, the frozen minion will be able to attack next turn as opposed to being frozen.

Freeze effect will be removed at the end of your turn if you don't attack. Otherwise it will be removed on your next turn.

It's the interaction of the +1/+1 from stormwind and damaged minions. Removing stormwind removes the +1/+1 from their max stats healing any minion damaged below their max hp 1. Edit: So the 3/2 Phoenix before stormwind hit the board was heal due to the damage it took before

I really think it's a mistake to value mech-a-roo on the board that highly. I know you don't value your health at all, but how else is mech-a-roo gonna get value. going in on the face 7 times for 7 damage? you could have saved the weapon charges for finishing stuff off later and rounding out the damage of your other low attack, high health minions

Leaving it alive deals more damage to his opponent and he's a tempo deck. Having one less damage in his trading options is a definitely a downside but here it's outweighed by the extra 3-5 damage he's going to deal on average.

I really don't think it is, even if you ignore that Trump paid 5 life for the former board state.

There is a reason why the majority of every deck, besides niche decks, is minions. They deal repeated damage AND get to trade afterwards AND can be buffed. Spending one more damage than is needed to kill the minion is trivial compared to the tempo gained from with snowballing a sticky board. Since you seem to be unsure, yes preserving a 1/1 is way more valuable than one charge of a 2 damage weapon. Preserving your minion with a fast resource is the most basic, standard play made constantly by core players.

I'll never understand how a 4-mana 5/5 that burns 9 cards is value in Arena. I get the tempo, but all it takes is one removal spell, and your tempo is gone - and so is your late game.

Well, it takes a more powerful removal to remove a 5/5. If they burn a fireball or an assassinate on your 4 drop instead of like, stormwind champion or something, you're feeling pretty good. As for why the burn effect isn't really a drawback, I commented this elsewhere but: Try this to visualize why. Split your deck into 10 piles of 3. Pile 1 is your opening hand. Pile 2 is your early game draws. Pile 3 is your mid game draws. Pile 4 is your late game draws. Pile 5 are the last draws you usually make before the game ends. Piles 6-10 are almost never accessed in arena, or in constructed unless you're playing control. When you play keening banshee, you're basically just making it so that instead of accessing pile 4 or 5 or whatever, you're accessing pile 6 or 7, which you normally wouldn't get to access. It's functionally identical to rearranging your deck so that piles 6 or 7 were in the middle of your deck and piles 4 and 5 were in the bottom half of your deck, which you would never draw anyway. Yes, it feels psychologically bad when you burn "good" cards, but it's no different then "never lucky, my flamestrike was in pile 6-10." And sometimes your good cards actually are at the bottom of your deck, so you get to access those instead of whatever you were going to draw in the mid/late game (often crappy cards in arena,) in which case the "drawback" of the banshee was actually an advantage. In Trump's case, he probably could have also won by drawing his lategame cards and outvaluing the warrior, but the Keening Banshee play made it so that he drew into fast damage instead and just won by finishing him off (which also wouldn't have been possible without the 10 damage that the banshee got in, plus the 4/4 that it killed.)

1 repeated damage is better tempo than single-use 2 damage. That mecharoo will definitely deal at least two damage and very likely more.

@@thedarksleeve I disagree. It's hard to compare weapons and minions, but say you're looking at the cards' values in board trades. Mecharoo could deal one damage to a minion, then "revive" and deal one damage to another minion. If you think of the axe as a creature, it's kind of similar to a 2/1 deathrattle: summon a 2/1 in that it could: Deal two damage to a minion, then "revive" and deal two damage to another minion. The only difference is that mecharoo can go in on the face an unlimited number of times, but a 1 damage minion going in each turn is simply not high enough damage to be impactful, even in Magic where you only have 20 life instead of 30. Trump is in essence valuing the pitiful face damage of the mecharoo over a stronger board state, which is very uncharacteristic, and is neither a tempo play nor a value play. It would be like trading away a harvest golem so that you could hit the face with light's justice.

It's a small impact because these are low mana cards. You still have no reason not to take an extra 5+ face damage for free, it is far more impactful than +1 damage on a trade by preserving an axe charge. Especially in a tempo deck. I'm afraid you are simply going against the decades of theorising pros have done for these games and the masses of data people have gathered on hearthstone matches. In MTG based card games you spend fast resources to preserve your minions, not the other way around.
