Despite the success of the operation, 40,000 soldiers, 99% French, were captured in the Dunkirk pocket. In addition, all heavy equipment and vehicles had to be abandoned by Britain. 2,472 guns, nearly 65,000 vehicles and 20,000 motorcycles were left in France. 377,000 tons of supplies, over 68,000 tons of ammunition and 147,000 tons of fuel were also abandoned, not to mention the 4,700 British soldiers who died during the fighting in Belgium.

Absolutely gut wrenching! Incredible! This is hands down the most powerful & heart wrenching WW2 Documentary I have ever watched! The graphic footage was incredible! The personal testimonies of the soldiers & civilians who had to go through this terrible nightmare was so powerful & deeply moving! If we did not see & hear this with our own eyes & ears it would truly be unbelievable! Although, this clearly shows that the evacuation at Dunkirk truly was an absolute Miracle! As well as it clearly shows what courage & fortitude these dear folks showed in all of this horror! God bless all those who lived through & survived this terrible nightmare & gave us their heart wrenching testimony here. Moreover, God bless all those who selflessly & bravely gave their lives in this horrific war. May they Rest in Peace! Thank you for sharing this deeply moving Documentary! Blessings to you!

I’m an American, let me say the Americans might have helped turn the tables but it was so much more. A lot of people don’t give all of the others the credit, that’s why it was called the allied forces. It’s also a shame that in the United States of America, they don’t know anything about the Second World War.

I listened to a man and he said you couldn’t help but be scared. I will say there is a big difference between scared and cowardice. God Bless that man, the English soldiers and the Citizens of England we’re definitely not cowards. It’s amazing how the world came together to rid this planet of evil and it was for England, France,Belgium, Netherlands, my home country Norway and many more. I’m sorry if I didn’t mention your country but it took a lot of nation’s to wipe out the most evil person in modern history.

We dont know anything about it?!? I know enough that this documentary and the movie about it left out the man that made this rescue even possible, Gordon Welchman...he was the head of Hut 6 and developed a new way to monitor communications, traffic analysis (known today as Meta Data). He discovered that the German army was maneuvering to trap the English and French armies and figured out himself that it would happen at Dunkirk, got word to the government giving them enough time for the rescue. Welchman is also the man who developed the Diagonal Board that sped up Turings Bomba unit that made it fast enough to actually crack the Enigma code because he also discovered a cypher to base it on.

IDK if ur, or any channel covered this question I want 2 ask. After the fall of France, why didn't Germany insist that France cede French NW Africa 2 Germany? This would have closed off the western Mediterranean Sea's entrance 2 the Atlantic Ocean. This would have left Gibraltar and Malta to die on the vine bcz they couldn't B resupplied. Then Germany could have pushed the British out of the Middle East. Then Germany could have had more oil than it could ever use. Do U have an answer 4 me? Tks.
@kevintemple245 Жыл бұрын
Simple answer, French Africa was controlled by the Axis via the Vichy French government. As long as the UK held Egypt, they couldn't keep the Allies out of the Mediterranean. Therefore the Axis was never able to achieve either total naval nor air superiority in the region.

I just keep wondering why the British call it Dunkirk??? Sure they can't talk Dutch so Duinkerken could be difficult but dunechurch is doable?!? It's the Flemish part of France and so Dutch is a official language there. Rijsel or Lille aswell but that's been french for ages and ethnic cleansed by the French so don't think anyone still uses Rijsel. But Duinkerken is common so I don't understand the Dunkirk name.
