The treatment of Shasha had at the hands of his own countrymen while being a exemplary officer and loyal citizen is somehow more enraging to hear about then the camp. I couldnt imagine escaping a concentration camp just for my own government that I'm a military officer for to throw me back into another camp.

I'm with you on that. Welcome to Stalin's Russia. Russian prisoners repatriated from Germany were treated as traitors, once back, by their paranoid leader, Stalin. Stalin's son Yakov was in a German prison camp and they offered him back to Stalin as part of an exchange. Stalin said, Yakov, I have no son named Yakov. Yakov died in that camp. Stalin, what a great guy!

The survivor probably had a deeper connection with Frenzel than you think. Blatt was an officer of the Ministry of Public Security after the war. You can see him wearing the uniform in the picture in Wikipedia. They were the Polish equivalent of Stalin's NKVD. I'm not sure if Blatt was involved in all the political torture and mass murder the organization was tasked with by Stalin but nevertheless being a part of political apparatus of government sanctioned torture and political persecution, mass imprisonment and mass murder, he must have understood Frenzel much better than someone who has only been a victim.

I went and found a transcript of Thomas Blatt’s interview with Karl Frenzel and I can say it is easily the most bone chilling dialogue ive ever read and probably one of the most in history. I felt compelled to read it, if Blatt had the courage to conduct it, any student of history owes it to him to read it. Thank you Dr. Felton for shedding light on so dark a corner of human history.

Four extractions, three root canals and crowns, a bridge plus an unrelated filling in the end; cost £278 or so for everything.

Thank you Mark Felton for great content and narration. Both my grandparents were in WW2 and both survived. My grandmother spoke about the war and after the war often. They even met a Natzi in South America after the war. The war was a very real thing for our family, at least in their memories.

Captain Alexander Porchevsky, is a person I admire a lot for his bravery in this hellish part of history. I especially love hearing the story about his defying one of the SS. I believe the story involved Sasha and the other prisoners getting a very tedious job done in the woods and the SS Officer tied to reward him with cigarettes and Sasha told him " I don't smoke". Apparently the SS Officer then offered him more food and his response was " The rations are just fine!!" That's true defiance against incredible odds and that same defiance def helped with the Escape. Truly, Captain Porchevsky and his Platoon being sent to Sobibor was a gift from God!!!
