As a resident of Alaska, I was taught to hit the ditch before hitting a moose

From a Canadian who has moose in my area, if you ever are coming head-on with a moose, the answer is always slow down. Driving faster is Looney Tunes thinking. The second you clip the moose, all of its weight immediately drops on you so the faster you're driving = greater force and impact. Always slow down or swerve to avoid, if possible.

I lived in northern maine for a long time. I was told the reason why they are so deadly when you hit them is because just before they get hit their body tenses up and they do a slight jump into the air, which is why they almost always hit the windshield

Aculite, I know you are Canadian, I live up in Fort St. John right now, Moose will get up from being hit, I have seen one get up from being hit by a semi, granted the truck had started slowing down and wasn't going full highway speeds but still. Shit is terrifying. It's not until you get into the 2.5 tonne trucks that you start getting into fatal territory for a Moose. Lived in alaska for a bit and they actually have a list you can join where if a moose gets killed by a car they will call people and give them a certain time limit to come pick up the moose if they want the meat. They are massive creatures to. I worked for the state paper and one day as i was preparing the routes for the drivers a big ass moose walked right by the window of my little office and scared the ever living shit out of me lol Also had one in my drive way one morning that made me late for work. They are very territorial and can get aggressive over nothing and they will ruin you.
