myself i dislike strategy games that make you go find minerals or other stuff on the map... that is why i liked games like this one and supreme commander... which by the way puts starcraft 2 to shame.... blizzard should learn i couple of things from that game... i mean the gamplay and graphics are way better than starcraft 2 .... but yeah infinite resources is not that bad... se for example dawn of war dark crusade or soulstorm ( i used to have 12 hours multy games with my friend back in collage that nobody won... those were the times...)

One of the reasons why I dislike the online multiplayer is that the resource points/oil spots are literally just massed and handed to the player on maps like these... and these are all the maps that are played. It's basically easy mode. A key part of the original game's design was to seek out, control, and defend the oil points on the map to gain an economic advantage over your opponent. The more power you had, the more you could build, like controlling more mineral fields/vespene gas geysers in Starcraft or tiberium patches in C&C (or, for a more accurate analogy, the metal deposits on a map in Total Annihilation). As a result of having basically unlimited resources, all you get is unit spam tier by tier instead of the tactical play that was intended, especially with research being key and leading to new technologies (e.g. light cannon viper wheels over machine gun viper wheels) tipping the balance in a (non-spam) engagement. This is why I was so disappointed on playing WZ 2100 online -- the toxic community aside.

My friend you definitely know your RTS games! I respect anyone with knowledge of the classic RTS era... I mean, the 90s were kind of the classic era for all modern PC games but still. I always disliked any RTS game where you had to click 5987795265276529726 miles an hour to have any chance in multiplayer. Games like you mentioned and Age of Empires for example, you pace yourself. You form groups of offensive and defensive units, control areas of the map,,, watching this game made me feel like you literally would need some monster energy or game fuel to be able to play it lmao. Just constantly clicking without even blinking. I did play this game and it was one of my favorites, hell, the demo alone was insanely fun. But I always liked the campaign, 1 of the best campaigns of a RTS game right there with TA and Tiberium Sun and Red Alert 1 and 2. Hearing the announcer has to be annoying playing this game online, like god damn. If you were born in the 80s or earlier (87 here) than you were part of a lucky group that got to play the ORIGINAL Total Annihilation Boneyards online service. That had to be the best time ever in RTS multiplayer, as it was literally arm vs core across a global landscape, every win/loss for each side mattered, it was like a global multiplayer campaign! There was a map that showed the progress of all online games in the world, and the more that arm or core won, the more global areas in the TA universe that side would own. Ive seen some similar things in other games but, nothing the same in the RTS genre. Its hard to explain to people who werent there to experience it.

I've been a big fan of the original C&C games since TD '95. :D Warcraft II, Starcraft, Total Annihilation... Those were the days! And Boneyards! Don't forget Gamespy, too! Man, this is taking me back, haha. Thing is, people are so used to modern features in multiplayer (e.g. everything "all-in-one") that everything we experienced growing up? It's all completely alien to them as a concept. Seeing kids (e.g. born in ~'00) see these old games and be utterly baffled by them is hilarious and depressing, since it makes me feel old, heh.

I think we kind of have an advantage because we can enjoy old games like TA completely offline, I love staying up super late and playing when everyone else is asleep anyways, its a great escape. And yeah omg, Gamespy was a huge service. The other one was MS Zone, which was though Microsoft, it was just through a website, easy to use. That honestly lasted for years and years, over 10 years after TA game out!

It had long bridges between and the rest of the map was oily-water for naval). ...Then I'd just build like thirty nuclear missile silos to wipe the entire map out in one hit, haha. (Never could win Krogoth Encounter, though! Hard as balls. that scenario!). Man, those were the days. :( Truly a magical time. Just seems like, outside of Indie and "Retro" games now, gaming is just copies of Aeon of Strife games (DotA, League of Legends, et cetera) and cookie-cutter first-person shooters (Like Call of Duty 245643). sigh :(

All in the supply line, by having that clean supply line with constantly refreshing troops our boy was able to just win on pure attrition and constant production. If the enemy had gone in with a second mobile force killing supply lines, he could have isolated that forward detachment and wiped it with his big boys. Good match and great troop movements on both sides

There was supposed to be warzone 2120 as Nexus/Dr. Reed managed to escape in the ending, but, shit happened, but at least we have this moddable open source remake, only thing left is to find someone willing to make a sequel using the same engine

You need much more tech to advance weapons and upgraded buildings. Keep upgrading your tech the faster it will research. Also you need track vehicles with constant upgraded bodies and weapons which is much more powerful than bots. U can get to 4006 hit points on a tracked vehicle very fast with heavy guns which take out bots with 1 shot.

Кстати была на компе одна игра, не могу вспомнить как она называеца, там начинаешь играть роботом командиром толи трёх ножкой толи четырёх, там тоже можно было заходить как-бы во внутрь робота и управлять им отдельно, как и в здании тоже, также строишься также развиваешься, чем-то похожа на эту, деталей мало скажу игра очень старая, с совремён компьютерных клубов, но я как любитель таких игр играл не отрываясь. Тогда у меня компа не было игра по немногу в клубе. Надеюсь тебе повезёт с нею когда-нибудь. РS извиняюсь за орфографические ошибки лень исправлять :)

They arn't playing it properly..... you normally have only 4-6 oil derricks to start with, not the 50 these guys have. It makes the game pointless to play this way... They are basically playing with endless resources, so your tech choices matter less. BUT, if they played it the way its supposed to be played, games can take 5-6 hours to play.

This game looks so undeveloped as i compare it to sc broodwar for example. it lacks so much stuff that a game called RTS should have. I thnk its mostly because of that map layout, it dumbs down the game so much. There is no effective way of harassment, u both have infinite resources, dont need to go and expand somewhere and or control key places on the map, because the map is empty you have only 1 base for the whole game. There are no army formations, no tactical maneuvers. All i see is ball vs ball in the center of the map. Thats more like balls duel than anything else, especially RTS game. Im glad singleplayer missions are not like that and dont get me wrong i dont hate the game, i just dont like what it looks in multiplayer.

+Jayjay Okocha Its a different type of rts game than what anyone is used to. I'll give you credit about underdevelopment but back in 1999 this type of game was amazing. There are some bad things about it but then again it isn't that big an issue because there is a group of people who change stuff every so often and release a free updated version of the game. So things can and most likely will change. Edit: I'm going to take away the 'unlimited resources' you pointed out, this is a custom map and on a map that is well balanced in different manors there would not be near as many resources available because you would only have so many platforms and have to wait for your resources to come in to do anything. It also has custom unit creation. All the units he used were templates he made and saved earlier, you can create your own with researched parts in game.

Starcraft too. Looks underdeveloped on money maps. Any RTS looks underdeveloped on money maps. Same problem is going on with c&c td and red alert. But also wacraft 2 etc.

as for the first part os your statement "it looks underdeveloped" I would like to remind you that this was a PS game. As for the second part "there is no effective way to harass" you forget that this game is mostly reliant on tanks. You need to have a mastery on maneuver warfare before an ability like harassment can become available. also yeah this is a bad map. really bad. look at other maps like Cockpit or Cockate for good examples of close quarters/open field engagement.

ok, two things wrong here that I would like to correct. 1: there are working models in game for a "boat chassis" but it was never implemented. 2: a light tank with a tank buster missile can easily take out something much more powerful than itself, learning to make cost-effective units and countering enemy designs is much more important than making giant murder tanks.
