I love Fantano and have always been fine with his reviews, just being him explaining his subjective personal opinions well. One thing I DON'T enjoy about his (or anyone's) reviews is this shift into critiquing themes, artists' views, etc. Her being a "main character" should only be considered a negative if she expresses it badly. We're not supposed to review people or personalities but how they express themselves in art. Bad lyrics are badly written, not conveying things you personally find lame.

Whilst I agree, I do think the artists views and themes are an integral part of what the album is. So whilst I don't think it's bad to give a critique, I think I can be bad to attack them for it. I'm probably guilty of it too but I try not to be too mean about it.

@@IcySnapsYeah Of course, you have to bring it up, but I don't think it should be brought up as a part of what makes the album good or not. If you think an artist is cringe it can help explain why the music is harder to approach for you but it should only be brought up to clarify your bias.

Honestly don't even think the illness needs to be part of the discussion at all. I watched the review with no prior knowledge of or exposure to the album and was still grossed the fuck out. It's just a case of "why say this about someone else" with additional undertones that, if not overtly misogynistic, hit very close to a misogynistic home.
@IcySnapsYeah3 күн бұрын
There was definitely an air of spite and some distasteful comments, while I don't think he was intentionally trying to be misogynistic, it did feel a bit aggressive.

To me a 1/10 is the type of album never wanna come across again. You regret even giving it a chnace. Halseys album was by no mean revolutionary but a 1??? Idk there some underlying issues in his reviews. Idk if they are personal or general but man... really takes away a lot of his integrity as a reviewers

I know it's generally an opinion when it comes to reviews, but yeah, a 1 to me is almost unlistenable. Maybe he was in a bad mood :p

Encima él tiene una laaaaaaaarga lista de álbumes que merecían eso y menos de manera directa, pero no... Su "nota good" fue, es y seguirá siendo su salvaguarda

Yeah, felt like there's some personal spite there probably because of something happening behind the scenes. With u all the best with your health

@lordfoxtrot8330 I get what he was saying about the album not being great, but there was definitely some underlying animosity. And thank you! I'm doing pretty good atm:)

His dislike of the album is fine I am just shocked he didn't look into the backstory of the record before giving a score he has only given like 16(?) times.
@IcySnapsYeah3 күн бұрын
i wouldn't expect him to give a good score just based on pity or anything. it did feel like an oversight on his part to not even include what the album was clearly about. but yeah a 1 felt dumb to me..
@CasperLikesMusic-kw3jj2 күн бұрын
@IcySnapsYeah I mean personally I really disliked the album way before the Fantano review, I think I would give it a Strong 3 or so, but the deep backstory is really what makes the lyrics and concept stick atleast somewhat. If he thinks it's a 1 he can think it's a 1, just shocked he didn't really give much reasoning beside the fair critique of how "impersonated" the album sounds compared to ok there artists.

Talking about yourself doesn’t mean you’re the main character. Being the main character is thinking every problem and situation has to do with you and doesn’t happen to anyone else. It’s ok to make personal music but the way it’s expressed in Halsey’s music feels in a “bubble”. I don’t understand what’s so personal about critiquing that aspect. In my opinion, people take the lyrics super seriously because of the real life cancer, but in any other situation they would most likely come out of a Tones and I or a Tik Tok emo song. Saying that your life sucks doesn’t guarantee good music. If you want a musical example about the “serious” treatment of your own life ending, maybe check out David Bowie’s Blackstar.

I actually agree with most of what you've said. Music that comes from personal experience should be expressed in a way that is relatable. I honestly don't like her album that much either. I think that because the whole album is about her health that there should have been some acknowledgment and understanding as tho why it was so "main characater"
As per the rules of the internet I will delete my channel

@@IcySnapsYeahthe reason the album maybe named “the great impersonator” is because “the great imitator” is a nickname for SLE the form of lupus Halsey was diagnosed with
