There's no way that the dev team are the ones making the decisions, in a company of that size, it is most likely going to be designers, stake holders, project managers and especially marketting. Like in any company that is selling software, once something is partially signed off from the stakeholders, this is passed to the dev team, which at best, can say if something is technically possible or not. If possible, the dev team is assigned to the task at a given priority, so it may take X amount of time to be done, that is a given. The REAL issue here, is the transparency, we have absolutely no idea what feedback is being pushed back or not and why, so the players get increasingly frustrated, feeling that they're being ignored, when in fact, there could be a valid reason why it cannot be done, but unfortunately, those reasons are NEVER published.

The saddest moment in the video 15:32 When you realize the golden age of bdo is long gone, and it is NEVER coming back. The times we could just sit and wait for a world boss to spawn, watch bladeboques do stupid stuff on stream, gathering stuff in the game for hours and getting furious cuz someone flagged. It only mattered because ppl cared about the game and found a sense of wonder in the world of bdo. Now that is lost and the players have left. I think I'm moving on too. I dont even think its a problem related to devs but rather the person in charge of the overall direction of the game. For the past year or so a lot of resources have been put into LOML part 1 and part2. What we ended up with is a time gated zone with relatively little to do outside of those time gated boss spawn times. For some reason they think that people will stay in the game for weeks for new content that is mainly about logging in to kill a world boss in 5 mins or so.

My biggest issue by far is how reliant bdo is on crons. It's either you are time gated by ptw player generosity, or you pay 37% more for the same amount of crons through the vendor. It's not a good idea for any games progression system being tied directly to a company's bottom line. Something has to give, or the game will eventually implode on itself.
@thepaparya4 күн бұрын
It already is imploding on itself lol
@fhq39034 күн бұрын
Ultimately, PA needs to make money. Crons were always, will always, and has always been the end-game. It's how PA makes a bulk of their money. Every Korean MMO is like this where RNG is backed by some degree of P2W in the vertical progression journey. Maplestory, Lost Ark, Archeage, TnL, etc. Maplestory doesn't have crons and your shit either goes at a permanent 30% rate, downgrades at every level besides at 15 and 20, or blows up at a 3% and a 7% rate with no Pity system. Lost Ark has a pity system right at the beginning but the rates are so low that you're going to hit pity at least 50% of the time getting your shit to 20 and to supplement tapping, you have to P2W since the game doesn't give you enough currencies to keep going without p2wing. BDO's Cron systems are already a decent workaround. Yes, it does limit your progression because you either have to grind more to buy vendor crons or you have to wait for costume orders to fill out but that's the gameplay loop. You grind for shit and then you rng for shit.
@OsmosisMaple4 күн бұрын
@@fhq3903 think most people would not care about crons that much when now every single endgame upgrade progression costs absurd amount of silver/crons and give almost 0 impacts. Imagine spend 100-200b to upgrade your gear and your TL increase with little bit
@Blooddiamonds1884 күн бұрын
@fhq3903 brother im fully aware of how the Koreans operate with their ptw models. My criticism is its too heavily attached to their bottom line. I dont mind crons until it became the only option. At first, it was optional to use crons, raw tap, or save to buy. Now it's becoming one end all, be all option. Crons only. No work around. You HAVE to buy cron. The more efficient one is buying outfits or taking a 37% price increase through the vendor.
@fhq39033 күн бұрын
@@Blooddiamonds188 Crons have always been the only option since the Debo Neck released 4 years ago? Hell, crons were used frequently when going for pen boss gear, tet blackstars, etc. There was never a workaround to Crons that you think there is. It's just that there were FAR more costumes on the market back then, making crons far more accessible at a cheaper price. That being said, we make more than 10x the silver per hour we make now than we did years ago. The cron journey only feels bad in context of the 37% price increase with vendor crons but factually, it's gotten hell of a lot easier to acquire crons because of how much silver we can generate an hour at the late game grind spots. Even using vendor crons, the rate at which we can tap for upgrades is significantly higher than it was in the past.

Never seen a chart like that before in an it organisation before, where the "dev team" are the ones who decide which changes are made, i think you've missed a few heads there. there's usually a pm above the dev team and the pm reports to some kind of director which in turn gets their "lead" on a new development project from probably a support manager/director which has lots of meetings together with a board or a group of managers that do the ruling wether this new project/change is needed to not and if it might be needed they will then take it to the pm who then takes to the dev team, creates sprints for the dev team. i work in a similarily sized organisation as pearl abyss and when we want a small change, it takes around 3-4 months for a small change. The only fixes the dev team can do on their own are bug fixes, so maintenance of the code maybe refactoring or stuff like that. it's not as simple as you get the info to a "community manager" and they directly get it to the dev team... this doesn't happen, unless it's like a indie game that has basically no turnover. the issue isnt the space between the dev team and "changes are made" it's not that easy and never will be, the issue are the managers who decide wether something is worth it or not, dev hours is money spent, is the return worth it? that's what the managers are thinking, most cases the estimates are too many dev hours, and dev hours are... expensive, usually you can estimate 1 dev hour to 200$, so a change to the game might have an estimate of 100 hours, so 20k$, and the managers probably can't justify the roi to that against their budget, it's just not possible. Blue, you've literally become fuel to hate against the wrong part of a company. and the structure in a company, i think this is because you're just a streamer, you've never worked in a business that deal with large scale infrastructure development. I'm no hater but i truly believe you should put this on the shelf and just keep on having your opinions and not state things as fact, because they simply aren't.

Im 100% for 1 sided decs but let the pvpers have there good node wars and such. That being said if they make arsha grinding super good....alot of people would go there just for pve grinding. And pvpers will be seen as the bad guys and trolls. Again. I think a good bonus to arsha grinding is...okay but dont make to too good. That would just make alot of people mad. what is your take on how to fix this competition and pvp scene you mention? In my opinion, when i first got into node wars and siege it was because you could get a pretty massive reward weekly from guild payouts. and back then compared to now there was much less inflation, so getting that chunk of silver as a payout was huge, whereas now its just chump change even for new players. Remember when PA created that whole system to encourage PVP through rewards by creating a battle royale mode? i remember everyone was spamming that mode. it was a ton of fun and you could make some REALLY NICE money per hour if you placed well. eventually for whatever reason that was completely gutted even though it was so extremely popular. In my opinion i think rewards could highly incentivize pvp. For example lets say they made all those arsha changes you mentioned. rotating spots with permanant agris. rotating spots with permanant loot scrolls. would you really expect to still see arsha dead in alsmost every spot, or do you think theres a very good chance you'll suddenly start seeing a ton of players pop up in arsha participating in grinding and the pvp that comes with it? For me personally, i think you would see a large spike and consistent spike in the arsha server. I think personally its a really good incentive to revitalize the scene. I could definitely be wrong, but im just curious on your opinion. or for example what if after every node war you get 100-200 free crons, and in sieges you could get 250-500 crons (or whatever number you can come up with that you would be a good incentive) I would assume siege guilds would massively start filling up, and it'd be a really good incentive for people to dip their toes in node wars, pvp, siege etc also for kharazad i really like them. as a returning player it was really daunting knowing i had to grind billions and billions just to hope to smash EXTREMELY expensive debo accessories together, just to lose it.. before kharazad had game out my idea was basically to get all my gear up. duo fallen god pieces, kabuas, c7/c10 weapons. but i knew in my head i 100% would quit before i had to try to make pen or even tet debos. grinding for pen blackstar. it just personally sounds like a horrible time to me. then kharazad accessories appear. now i can put incremental money into the accessories and see results, rather than an all or nothing of getting tet or pen debos. i'm now full pen kharazad, working on VI/VII. and slowly chipping away at making a pen BS mainhand. theres obviously big downsides though.. i want to blow my brains out trying to buy outfits off the MP and the way theyre aggressively trying to milk money out of their community for crons. that really blows. but as a more casual player, i think i would rather have that than having to grind out hundreds of hours to hope to get one pen/tet debo upgrade. I think the idea of incremental power increases and less no of gambling with the chance of everything going *POOF* is a better way to go about things. but making your playerbase cron dependent addicts that can't help but buy crons that fill every F3 purchase option.. is not okay at all. IMO i feel so bad for lifeskillers too. you SHOULD be able to make comparable if not the same money lifeskilling vs grinding mindlessly. its good to have variety, it keeps players playing longer. and no. gathering or lifeskilling for 1/10 the income as grinding does NOT count as variety unless you don't care about money(which is almost nobody).
@GoodieMartin4 күн бұрын
Your words about lack of competition in pvp being the core issue and not the rewards is so fucking true. Me and other people back in the day were doing gvg on sausans / pirates or other spots getting 0 silver reward for 2-3 hours of pure pvp or doing node wars spending tens of millions on perfumes and elixirs with 0 % of getting that silver back from the node war and everyone had a blast. Now they can make node wars give even 10bil and nobody gives a shit anymore. And Choice with Divios probably didn't bring it up because it's instantly labeled as "toxic pvp".

I do think BDO has been in a long period of neglect, just seeing the extent of old gear sets and old systems for crafting, etc and what is in place now, I think they have been too slow to make improvements . I think they believed they were in a better place than they were due to artificial surges in players from Lost Ark shooting itself in the foot and Covid. Now that these artificial influences are gone, they are getting a better picture of where they are at. I think just because they ignored feedback before doesn't mean they will always ignore feedback, I think the reality check of decline in revenue is a metric you don't need a rocket scientist to explain to you that it is not good. I am not convinced that PvP changes are the sole or even the most significant reason for the extent of change, there just aren't that many people who PvP, even if everyone who PvPed up and left, it would account for a tiny fraction of their lost numbers. I think it is why PvP wasn't a material component of the feedback they provided, because they have issues far beyond PvP. I think the biggest problem with PvP are the players themselves and we are seeing the same mindset of BDO players who moved to T&L creep in there. The issue is they do not want to fight, it is totally the opposite of what you claim. People move servers to get away from good fights, they move to where they can beat on easy beats and get easy rewards. Cho didn't want good fights, they created an alliance nobody wanted to fight and instead of breaking up the alliance they pretty much trashed PvP in NA and it would have gone down the same way even if PA didn't screw with node wars. I think most people start to burn out of an MMO after a few years, it is really the social aspect of it that keeps people coming back, there just wasn't enough whizz bang in BDO over the years and people got bored and moved on to different games and it weakened the social fabric and people all of a sudden realised life skills aren't worth crap, PvP is monotonous and boring and everything else that is wrong with basically every MMO. I think if you need to go to players to tell you what to do in order to make your game fun to play then the battle is already lost, the MMOs that have done well for whatever period they did well had a leadership team that knew what they wanted to make and had the skills to make it happen. Better PvP systems would have helped but you can't code systems to prevent human nature.

even if they listened to hardcore bdo players, they probably have no idea how make the game better for new players or how to attract new players or how to make new players stick with the game, which seems to be the biggest issue BDO is facing rn. You cant just rely on old players coming back, you also need to make the game better overall. I recently played Throne and Liberty and World of Warcraft, those games have far better job progressions, far better way of handling eco systems and far far far better group content, not to mention how immersive the questing experience was, which is not such a big deal since you probably quest just once but still, there is a massive gap here in terms of quality. And BDO has that inherent flaw in everything where they give you a choice, one is good and one is bad. If you make the bad choice, it halts your progress and feels really bad. Those other games dont have such a devastating *choice* experience.

Choice and Divios are in fact substantially more knowledgeable about this game than you are by a long shot, it’s not even close how off base you are about most things in BDO. We appreciate your guides on the surface level information, but if we need to have 2 people going to PA to discuss anything serious on behalf of the community, you are not that guy. You’re a jester for BdO cosplaying as a voice for the community. Stay in your lane. You can be a net positive if you can stop acting like you’re able to be a savior, but stay an entertainer/comedian.

Its not going to happen. The game was already shifting towards PVE years ago, and with that korean stream snipe drama and politics the devs just completely decided not to deal with pvp. Its nothing to do with profit or what the players want anymore its more of being not framed as a studio that develops a toxic game when they have other games to be released in the future.

The community is on so much cop it’s not funny anymore. Flying streamers and relay on them to “deliver feed back”.. Brother, its 2024 .. put an announcement on game/discord/partnered streamers with a questionnaire on how to fix the game and attach a reward for completing it and everyone who still cares about the game will give you feedback. Flying streamers is just a show.. they could have held a zoom meeting or some shit instead flying them but that wouldn’t have been as big of a show.

This old pvp talk won't revive the game. Here is how you fix the game: 1. Make pve content that actually requires gear and teamwork to complete. Aka actual proper dungeons and raids. Can also make it worth it for pvp like lineage 2 having world bosses that guilds compete over, like Baium in Tower of Insolence. (NOT how tnl is doing it right now) 2. For pvp and pve make good sea content. Where people have a reason to go out and pvp, explore, capture islands, have underwater content that is more than just another grind zone. 3. 100% more focus on non afk life skilling. A LARGE part of the player base is or at least was playing bdo for life skilling content. Stop dumbing it down and make actual life skilling content. And yes, the Royal Palace is a BAD example of good life skill content. 4. Give more leaderboards and asperational content for people to grind for. There, you're welcome.

Sup blue bdo still downhill with pvp? Havent played for a month now but come into BA every once in a while. Maplestory has been filling my bdo void for now since gear matters on that game unlike this one.

I have a dream be to be in a room closed shut with the DEV team and J for a whole hour, so I can vent all the "nice" things they've caused to the community throughout the years. I guess after that I would turn more pacifist than Buddha himself. Cheers!
