I swapped my 1000cc Africa Twin for a Transalp. I definitely don’t regret this change. It’s lighter, just as quick, just as comfortable. I use it more than I used the heavier AT. I don’t don’t ride off road, I could have a road only bike, but I like the seating position of adventure bikes.

This June I bought a TA and put almost 6000 on it, mostly on long trips but also into the city. This weekend there was a lot of hubbub in town and roads were closed for protestors. And the packed roads were mine, lane splitting, hopping on and off the curb, light, easy and fast when needed. It is like riding my moped but with the power I always wanted without the weighty feel that I got used to on other bikes. For long trips it works well, higher windscreen and some other accessories made this the ultimate touring bike for me. So yeah, it can do all I want it to do.

Like a number of people have said, I absolutely love my Transalp. Especially with the available aftermarket cruise control for under $300USD. I've mine on road for a 1,200 mile 4 day road trip and I've done a decent bit of off road riding on forest service roads. It tackled all of it with ease. Sure, like you said the suspension is bouncy, but it's kind of expected at the price point. And even like that, you can still have fun on and off road with it. It really is a great bike.

At 5'7" and 67 years old, the Transalp suits me well. I wish Honda would give us cruise, tubeless tires, and DCT, even as options, but for what it is, and at this price point, I think it's a fine adventure bike. I love the AT, but it's just getting too heavy as I get older. I do think Honda is missing the point. There would be nothing wrong with the Transalp competing with the AT. There will always be those who want big, and those who want smaller. Why not give riders what they want and let them choose? The technology is there for all.

Thanks for this video - an honest rethink of your first impressions of the model. Now at 20,200 kms here in South Australia, I can honestly report that this bike is a valid offering. I have been riding for 62 years (I started early) and can sincerely say this bike has really 'grown on me'. I was underwhelmed when I first rode it, but bought it anyway, and it has 'won me over' as the year and a bit has passed. I will continue to improve and lighten the bike, and as it is now due for a suspension oil change, I am considering my options, as the suspension does let it down somewhat for me. But it is a great 'everyday' bike (I am retired, and literally ride it most days, 12 months of the year here in sunny Australia) and I will keep it. Smooth, amazingly economical (I am a distance from a fuel outlet) and a very undemanding ride. Low revs at open road speed - 4,000 at 110 kmh (70 mph) - plenty of brakes, a smooth ride, and even sounds nice on the overrun! A lot of bike for a reasonable price. Mine has won over this Ducati guy...

Kinda wish Honda would do a transalp with tubeless as I do like them currently in the process of letting my 1150gsa go after re injuring my shoulder doing decorating in the house joys! I just returned from a day ride in the red clay greasy hills of Gympie, S.E. Queensland. The only bike left standing was the Transalp. The DRZ 400 with knobby wheels went down twice and the the other one, with road oriented tyres, multiple times. The front suspension needs work, as i launched it off washouts, it smashed through its stroke with a bang. The rear, though soft, held its own. Disengage the TC, lower the power to prevent unwanted wheel spin, and let it lead the way. And this was with the stock karoo streets. With the right tyres and a subtle hand, it will get you into trouble, and out. That front suspension needs work though. It's not my old KTM 790, but it goes most of the places it did, just a bit slower. And it's miles better on road. I'm hanging onto it.

An adventure bike is NOT enduro or dirt biker regardless of the promotional videos with professional rider doing rehearsed feats of impossibility to 99.9 precent of it's owners. It's a road/off road compromise that's capable of getting you to your destination regardless of the surface. The Transalp 750 is a balance between cost/weight/suspension/power as a middle weight adventure bike contender. US government EPA diluted the bike performance by removing 7.5 hp from the 91 hp at the crank. Wasn't long after the bike was introduced that American tuning shops had the 752cc engine producing in the upper 80s hp performance. I had my Transalp 750 ECU tuning up, that 752 cc motor now produces 88.7 hp at the wheel. Add a Canadian company $300 cruse control, and the bike is golden.

I have the TA here in Australia and it is already 92 bhp I think. I agree, these adv bikes need to be geared for long road trips. Right off the bat your gearing is too high for complex off road riding, not to mention the weight. People have unrealistic expectations, no adv bike can challenge the laws of physics.

It looks like a fantastic motorcycle. Used adventure bikes are very popular as well. They have often many miles on the clock indicating that their owners liked them. In May I bought a used naked motorcycle instead at a much lower price with much less miles on the clock. I'm 66 and do not expect doing jumps in the desert. I started motorcycle camping Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, France, Monaco and back in 1979. My girlfriend was passenger. We did not have a GPS or intercom, but used hand signals clapping and touching each other on the way. That was great! Almost ran out of money and slept in gardens and football pitches on our way back. This summer I just went on a two week solo spin to Harz and back. Good times.

Although the CF MOTO 450 is a close second and my gen3 KLR650 is still in my garage and I’m reminded every time I ride it that it’s still a good bike and a 8:5 compression ratio is ideal for low grade petrol that is common in the more remote parts of the world. I just finished a 10.000km round trip to the north cape with a lot of TET roads in the Baltics and Finland. That said, if it ever is time to replace it I would probably look towards a (then usend) Transalp. It´s a very good allrounder especially considering that i own a small and very capable enduro bike for the really harsh stuff. @@watch_drives_you Thanks for the insights! ;-) I am wondering you weren't busted for the 550 ECU mod as police is constantly trying to f* people over for every single thing you change and here it would be illegal due to emission regulations. Police checked my bike, found "it" and now that thing is officially shut down. Would love to do the ecu mod on my crf300l, but I guess that lovely thing has to go and find a new owner. Great bike, but, as I said, it is underpowered.
@watch_drives_you2 ай бұрын
@@n03m9 Oh the ECU mod is not legal here either because it lets the bike run a lot less lean and fucks up the emissions. But the CRF was running EXTREMELY lean in stock form and a bit more fuel is a good thing considering temperatures. In a normal traffic stop police does not notice the different ECU because it's mounted under the rear fender and looks just like the factory one except for the missing Honda stickers. I had my TÜV inspection (MOT for the British) and they did not have a single complaint about the bike. When it comes to the emission test my Arrow exhaust without KAT doesn't help the situation, so either run the original pipe when testing or know the mechanic we'll enough that he puts the probe in another bike... If you want to get REALLY stealthy you can even send your original ECU to 550 and they will flash it with their software. Looks completely OEM then.

I also have a Norden 901 with the features I want Honda and Yamaha to have; I love it, too, but I just don’t trust it like the Japanese bikes. Aprilia needs a much larger dealer network in the United States.

My personal feelings are the suzuki de800 is a better bike, but the transalp is still a good adv bike. Most dont do anything rough enough to have to worry about ground clearance etc. one thing that does annoy me is a lack of cruise control. Better suspension, cruise control, better ground clearance, and other reasons would have me buying an aprilia tuareg over anything else if I were to buy new. This is coming from a guy who owns a heavily modified T7 (which i love) but the T7 definitely isnt perfect by any means. I am more of a rough 2 track rider so the T7 suits well for me.

TA owner 8500kms , with health issues haven’t ventured, into my preferred territory off road . Except for a local mid difficulty enduro flatish loop that I had lit up a KLR 650 on last year . I turned back off the trail within 600 metres , it was like riding a tippy pogo stick . Yes I am 100kg and the suspension is obviously soft and was using stock tyres, but it was scary to a somewhat experienced off roader. Yes stiffen the front and rear , fit at least 50 50 tyres , get over my real world fear of tipping the tippy bike with my 28 inch inseam and not being able to pick up the 208kg wet plus gear 220kg , Transalp in the middle of the bush riding solo.😮 But for me it’s been a good back road , rough road , bitumen tourer even with soft suspension . It’s fun and fast , if not super nimble in the twisties and the 21 inch front wheel makes me nervous . Would ideally prefer a 19 inch front wheel with a wider tyre. This would reduce ride height and support the weight of that forward protruding tank and forward biased fairing ? Taller riders might scoff at my fear of dropping this bike , but believe me an older shorter rider will agree. Beware of tight slow turns into driveways on cambered back roads with this bike , it can bite anyone .

6:22 I'm sorry to disappoint but no major changes are coming sadly. I waited for a whole year hoping for Honda to give us tubeless tyres and secretly hoping they would update that horrible headlight taken from the CB500X but it isn't happening. I was at my local Honda dealership yesterday and was shown photos of the 2025 Transalp Limited edition and given some details. They even asked me if I wanted to place an order as only 250 units will be available here in Spain but I refused. No tubeless tyres, no new headlight, no cruise control or anything like it at all. The "limited" edition of the 2025 model is basically white/light coloured bike with a whole lot of decals making it look like a baby Afrika Twin, and they throw in a bunch of extras like handguards, engine guard, belly pan etc. etc. which you could purchase separately anyway. Very disappointed as I was REALLY hoping Honda would gives us tubeless tyres if nothing else.

I think the Transalp would be a fantastic ADV bike ( for touring , good for back roads , dirt roads and good fire trails . A light off roader if you will ! , obviously more capable then a V- Strom 650 XT but less capable then a T7. So even in Australia that would suit most ADV riders . The Positives 1. Honda Reliability 2. Dealer support 3. Accessories ( except the high seat 😂- but could get stock one modified at a upholstery place ) - I have do this many times . 4. Weight 5. Power 80 HP - fantastic for the weight. Negative 1. No cruise control 2. Smallish tank size 3. No bash plate on the low sump ( and the low sump ) But overall a good 👍 bike

Every bike out there is equally capable in the right Hands, its 80% rider and 20% bike, I know the Transalp it's a good machine but seeing it live at the showroom I know eventually it will feel heavy for me and I'm not near the skill level of the promotional video rider's. I know that if I get it reality will struck an remind me that certain tracks I won't be able to cross them 😅, it will eventually feel too heavy the seat height will be eventually a bit tall and I'm not Tony boe😅. What I want is something like my Beta Alp 200 (or was mine😢 sadly sold it) light at just 118kg wet , 12 inches of ground clearance a reliable 200cc engine and a reasonable 33 inch seat height, unfortunately the suspension was way too harsh for the road and the seat felt like sitting on a brick after 30min of riding. Still waiting for the right bike.

Honda are excellent at marketing and over the years the have made a fortune selling small bikes to people who will never have an ambition to climb up the motorcycle hierarchy. I have always thought that the 500X and Transalp are well placed in the marketplace. They are serious adventure touring motorcycles for real world touring. They do exactly what people who do adventure touring need their motorcycle to do. The problem is more likely the image that KZbin influencers try to peddle, the rough tough world of pushing to the limit in the wild while wild camping and letting the testosterone rip. The real world is not like that. Adventure tourers do over 95% of their motorcycling on hard surfaces, the demand four star hotels and posh meals. They want motorcycles that look ready to take on anything but most of them cringe at the thought of mud and wet grass and cold or wet. Honda know this. They sell motorcycles which will take their clients where they want to go, comfortably, reliably and economically. They know the market and have built the bikes to match. Sure the testosterone fuelled wannabes will scorn the sensible option and buy T7s or 390 Adventures because they feel they must but they will never ride the roads where they believe their dream bike is needed. Me? I looked at and said no to the Transalp. My reasons were simple, Honda have already sold me the bike that fits my profile and (in the influencer’s opinion) a move up to a Transalp would remove two of the things that I find most impressive about the bike that I already own own so would be a backward step. Having owned the 500X for three years I have no intention in losing its fantastic fuel economy and range and through riding it I have come to appreciate riding a bike that can be ridden enthusiastically up to the legal and safe limits of the roads I use without having to hold back and worry about my licence for 99% of the time. Well done Honda for building the bikes that do the job that we need them to do. They might not be the dream machines that KZbin tells us that we need but in the end they’re a better proposition thanvany of those.

Ehh, still not for me. I'm sure it's great on the road and gravel tracks, but to take it properly offroad where I need it I'd need to be a much better rider. Toni Bou can do incredible things on an Africa Twin because he's an incredible rider, so I'm sure a good rider can manage with the Transalp offroad. You'll probably never kill it though, so that's a big plus
@simen94859 күн бұрын
One thing iv gathered from watching a lot of transalp reviews, is that, most of the flaws pointed out can be fixed. You cant fix a really high centre of gravity, and flaws like that. But you can upgrade suspension, install tubeless tires etc. And there might be enough in the budget for it, since the starting price is decent. Just wish there was a cruise control option, you can fit aftermarket cruise, but that might void the warranty.. Honda would have gotten away with a lot of mediocre reviews, if they had a premium model with everything that people want. The whole thing about not competing with the africa twin is bullshit. I think even the transalp is a bit heavy, and the africa twin is out of the question because of the weight. Some people just dont want a 235kg+ bike with a small car engine.
@Hibbicon2 ай бұрын
It's not bad, it just could have been so much better, if Honda decided not to sacrifice it for the Africa Twin sales.

I had the Transalp for a weekend, and the first day I hated it. There was a drop in power between 3000 and 4000rpm, I always wanted to rev it, but then it quickly exceeds the speedlimit. Although it was light and flickable. Second day set the gas reaction lower, it was much nicer, didn't feel the hole in the rpm range. Offroad I felt? (maybe saw in youtube) that it is front heavy and digs the front in sand, but then I saw kzbin.info/www/bejne/jovImHeLotN0hqc Also there is an offroad dongle incoming for the Transalp which keeps the TC and ABS states. Good thing that it will be a safe(r) choice on the used bike market.... :) (Now I have a Tuareg600)

Im a happy owner but have had to carry out some substantial modifications to make the bike safe for purpose. Its stock suspension is woeful. almost dangerous. It bottoms out on even on broken tarmac roads when ridden to its engine and brakes capability. Requires new springs front and back, full damper rebuild on the rear shock, it only has a single damper cartridge in the front so an additional cartridge and new piston heads need to be installed and once done the bike is truly capable all road machine. its safe to ride at speed and safe under power and strong braking. The modes are poor. Rain mode is handy but may as well just ride in sport mode always. Your criticisms were completely justified. Im an Australian and ride in our road and off road conditions. Tour companies that use Transalps here all modify the suspension significantly. It would likely only cost Honda half what we pay after market to do it at manufacture.
