No other emcee writes like Nas, especially when he’s in this kind of bag. In my opinion, Nas is the greatest storytelling emcee ever. His attention to detail, is second to none. Nas has some of the greatest storytelling songs in Hiphop history, and he has a lot of them. My favorite ones after, “I Gave You Power” are 3 songs called “Amongst Kings”, “UndyingLove” & “Fetus”.

It Was Written is the best second album for a rapper I've ever heard and to me a perfect album from start to finish. This song is one reason I've been listening to that album on a regular basis since it came out and I've never gotten tired of it, it's remained in my top 5 favorite hip hop albums of all time. I've used this song as an example when speaking on why Nas is a GOAT, why I heavily favor It Was Written over Illmatic and how I know hip hop when done like this is the most powerful form of educatiing the people, especially the youth. Storytelling in hip-hop is creativity. Years ago, BET did a hip-hop documentary over the changing state of the craft. In it, all the artists interviewed said the same thing: Once hip-hop grew to a certain point, they were all told if they didn't rap about hoes, drugs, etc. the old white man (i.e. J-W) at the top of the building wouldn't sign their checks. The result is what we have today.
