Not a fraud, he initially wanted to act, and would seek out roles, eg at University, then write and teach, had demons like all of us, was a tax exile, so could only be in Britain 90 days per year. Even late on, there were roles and films that excited him. eg Faustus, Wagner, but yes, he did many films for money, he was an actor, paid to play roles, some worked well, others didn't. I'm not going to criticise him for that. It's a shame he couldn't end up as he wished, writing and teaching at Oxford.
