Was Samus Aran Made To Badass?|The Characterization of Samus Aran - The Raider Speaks

Hello and Welcome Back to the Lore Raider. Today we will be tackling a topic I've heard floating around the Metroid Dread player base, and that is the idea that Samus could have been more emotional in the game as some felt she was overcorrected from her portrayal in Metroid Other M. Today we explore Samus' character arc over the games and see if these claims hold any water.

This was truly a labor of love this video here. But also shows the limitations of using entirely free software for video creation. This just came up in my recommended and I loved the video. Thrilled to see someone else giving Samus and Joey the respect it deserves! That said, while I agree on basically everything you said here, I do disagree with the panic attack from seeing Ridley. I think we can both agree the “real answer” is that the developers just wanted to have a story moment and didn’t think about the timeline at all. That said, I could also see an argument being made that even though she *had* faced Ridley before, the context was different this time around. He suddenly looked much more like how he did during the K2L attack, everything around her was burning, and she was surrounded by people who were put in danger by his presence. Even in real life, PTSD episodes aren’t super predictable and consistent, so it makes sense to me that even after all this time by having those other triggers present that weren’t there before, it triggered an episode. So I still totally buy that as in character. But also the devs just totally didn’t think about it lol

Happy to see you in the comments again although I’m embarrassed it was an old video with horrible audio quality. Still glad you found some enjoyment. My rebuttal to the Ridley thing is that Ridley looked the same way in Metroid 1, Super Metroid on Ceres Space Colony and in the final fight in Ridley’s Lair. I suppose the argument about how it reminds her of the slaughter I guess but then I would say wouldn’t the incident on Ceres Space Colony be the same. Dead bodies everywhere, the baby Metroid needing help and a self destruct sequence right after? I don’t know I struggle still to accept that moment as in character but I digress, I still appreciate the comment

@@theLoreRaiderOG yeah it is definitely making sense of shoddy timeline placement more than it is genuinely thinking it works with the timeline placement. Although those are definitely fair points about the Ridley fights in previous games. If Other M was set on bringing stuff back from the prequel manga I’m just sad we didn’t get Pyonchi back lol.

Good video, however the biggest problem is that I had a hard time understanding what you are saying as the voice sounded electronically broken and wasn't very clear what you were saying.

I apologize if I'm a bit late from the video's release but I do have elteast one question for you LR, sense Samuses speed is absolutely insane in scale especially with that life drain, does that mean she is able to throw hands with opponents such as Cthulhu (Outerversal) Celestials (Omnipotent) Cosmic armor superman (Hyperversal) MUI Goku (Honestly no clue) Thanos (Also no clue) SCP-682 (Can literally adapt to anything with the more damage it takes no matter how strong) Galactus And so and so on, just couple of battles to see how Samus does in the rankings. Overall great video, love to see it.

Hi. Glad you enjoyed the video. However the scales of those characters are way way way off. Well some of them are anyway. I won’t go into to detail but * Cthulhu isn’t even really planetary in the original mythos by HP Lovecraft. He loses * Celestials win low difficulty * Cosmic Armor Superman wins low difficulty * MUI Goku is debatable, considering a video on it * Thanos from the MCU gets destroyed. Comic Thanos is debatable * SCO-682 technically had no universal feats to his name, so his durability should be much much lower than Samus’s’ attacks. * Galacus wins low difficulty

@@theLoreRaiderOG I would watch it all the way, because to be honest with you I don't understand how a person such as yourself makes such good video's that put in so much work, time, and effort into them, but than get so little attention for making those video's. Your content deserves like 1-10k vews per upload and like 100-220 likes, if you ask me that should technically be the right amount of attention you get. Mainly because the current amount of vews, likes, subscribers, etc are all shockingly low and It's just not right, does a guy at KZbin studios or whatever there main area is called, purposely made it so the algorithm doesn't make you grow as fast? Is it because Metroid is an underrated and small gaming community with little fans, making their little people to be interested in content based on that? God knows, that is why I would never miss a video from a channel as interesting as your's (I don't just say that to everyone) besides, I need to increase my knowledge of Metroid as well. Something that your seem to be brilliant at doing.

@@jasonrandolph42 glad you agree Samus is perfectly badass. If we assume Samus and Joey was maybe a year before Fusion and Fusion is a year before Dread (enough time for Samus to patch things up with the Federation) then Joey should be something like 15 years old by Dread

You must misunderstand my point. From a canon point of view she’s obviously the same character. From a character writing/personality stand point nothing about the game is consistent with the rest of the franchise

Explain to me how her PTSD reappeared after she already conquered her trauma in the manga/first game, and explain to me how she was suddenly maternal for the Metroid when in both Fusion and Super Metroid she displayed no such motherly tendencies.

@@theLoreRaiderOG It is stated in Fusion that the only time she took orders from anyone was under the command of Adam Malkovich. Adam is a person who embodied the ideal father that Samus lost as a child. She imagined that if her father were alive, he would be something like Adam. This is the problem with Samus, that she idealizes a person, thereby showing her complete trust in him. Samus was past her rebellious age, and when she met Adam again, she was overcome with some guilt over her childish defection from the Galactic Federation cadet department. You also can't ignore the parallels between Adam and Rodney Aran, Samus' father. Both made an act of self-sacrifice to save Samus. Very beautiful, but very painful for Samus to experience that kind of pain again. As for PTSD, it's very simple. At that moment, Samus thought that she had already completely destroyed Ridley and Space Pirates, so seeing Ridley again in the flesh for her seems like a shock and some kind of nightmare. After all, judge for yourself, it is very sudden. Moreover, it was not even PTSD, but just a shock. In the end, when Ridley "killed" Anthony, Samus gathered her strength and told Ridley that she gonna kick his ass.

Nintendo has never retconned the English localization of Other M. Yes the Japanese version is much better but this is the OFFICIAL english version.
