Brendan, you wicked man! I am 68 years old and although I haven't received a stocking full of presents since I was a teenager, I know younger family members that still regularly receive presents, leave mince pies out for Father Christmas and still marvel at few crumbs he leaves on the plate. We don't leave him any alcohol as, after all, he is driving.

Vey interesting, Brendan .. I did not know that Ireland as island was divided on so many small kingdoms in the middle ages and before. In fact, I remember is history of Europe class in school that Ireland is not mention at all. Glad to know that you and Daisy Bell are alright.

I know ruined monasteries are romantic and all that, but it was a tragic business. Not only were countless monks put to death, but monasteries were the equivalent of social services today and thousands starved at their doorstep after the dissolution.
