Africa was very first Continent to slaughter families & capture people to enslave. Slavery comes directly from Africa. Causes me to ponder WHY black folk go on about slavery. Is this due to their forefathers original sin of enslaving..is it an unseen oppression these people🤔 Really makes ya think.

You only have to listen to the song to see that it is ironic and sarcastic. Lennon is bang on on this.

7:06 I can see why calling somebody the "n-word" would be denigrating. I don't see why talking about the meaning of the word would be perceived as hurtful if it's not aimed at you. Does this mean that the americans are not able to hold an intellectual discussion about the word in the context of linguistics within academia, for example?
@cuebj

Actually... it is very difficult for Americans to hold an intellectual discussion about the word in the context of linguistics within academia. There's a sort of fascist control of language among self-styled liberals and among ideological conservatives

Yes he keeps saying the word because this is from ages ago when it was normal to say it. Please understand that. Honestly this is frustrating to watch because people today (a time where they’ve never had it easier) are so sensitive. And no, the Beatles were certainly not racist. Far from it. People today are obsessed with racism

At the concert that was to be segregated they told them then we won't play. We've been paid and we'll walk, you explain to the crowd why we aren't there. That concert was desegregated in the end.

In the 1960’s Paul McCartney gave an interview overseas and said America was a terrible place because of its racism. He wrote Black Bird for black women in the civil rights movement in 1968. The Beatles famously would not perform at any concert facility that was segregated. The only musician to get co-credit for being on their albums and records was Billy Preston.

Good God, they invited Billy Preston to play with them and he was black and gay! Where did this stupid question come from?
@dolier2802
@dolier2802 14 күн бұрын
Not only did they invite him to play with them, but they seriously considered making him a permanent addition to the band, which would have made him the actual 5th Beatle, ultimately they opted not too because they knew by that point the band was kind of a sinking ship and they would have split pretty soon, but the fact the only new person they ever considered making a permanent addition after their success was a black man should make it quite clear they weren't racist, lol

Also in 1962 they started hanging out with the brilliant Billy Preston, who was in Hamburg with Little Richard and his band. Billy Preston was already quite famous...The Beatles were barely known at all. But once The Beatles were extremely famous, the bandmates were all scrapping and fighting, so George Harrison went out and found Preston and asked him to join the band to settle everyone down...which worked. The whole band respected Preston and he truly became "the Fifth Beatle" for the concert on the roof and their last two records.

Until the 1990s, South Africa was controlled by a white minority. There was a moment in the entertainment industry to boycott playing in South Africa. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned from 1962 to 1990 for fighting this system of apartheid. He was released and became the president of South Africa in 1994. My apologies for trying to summarize this in four sentences.

There's a lot of problematic things in Beatles history, I feel glad to say I don't feel like race was one. For me, I get the point to the Lennon solo song. Word taboos were different back then. He was also a huge supporter of the Black Panthers, and other black rights groups at the time, both vocally and financially. He put Bobby Seele on prime time US TV to talk about the black power movement. I remember as well he paid legal fees for activists, but I can't remember who. As a white guy it's not for me to decide how black people feel about historic figures, so if he's racist to your mind, or the mind of the lady, I'm not here to tread on anyone's opinion. But for the time, I think he went out of his way to be an ally. All of the Beatles publicly acknowledged their love of black American music, and how much it inspired them, and I think although some people see their early work as appropriation, I see it as a love letter to Black America, and I think it changed the world for the better.

Na fr my guy their biggest influences who started rock and roll we’re chuck berry, little Richard, fats domino, they also admired Elvis and buddy holly but berry especially had a huge influence on them, why their first two albums with nearly all the only covers of their career are from the black artists of the time, which versions they really made better and brung to a bigger audience to them like twist and shout who was by the Isley brothers and made John upset to play all the time in the first year or so because it wasn’t theirs and was by a black artist why they focused on their own material so much, they fr changed music forever and we’re the first group to actually really write and perform their own music so well and intricately and had an insane work ethic and schedule you’d be surprised if they dropped one album every year not 7 by 66 only 3 years in, not even half way though their discography they started writing some of the best produced and written timeless songs of all time that you would never think came out of the 60s by guys who weren’t even out of their early to mid 20s yet on god they are the goats, react to while my guitar gently weeps 2018 remix, oh darling 2019 remix, or yesterday 2023 remix. Just because people were born at a certain time doesn’t mean your coded to be that way, it wasn’t just civil rights ppl were fighting for a lot, and most races struggled, it just was more encouraged to be that way in society unfortunately as ugly as it was.

If the Beatles are your entry into the history of the Civil Rights movement in America that's okay. I just finished watching the four episode documentary series on HBO about Stax records and you might learn something from that. Also, taking a course in Black Studies might also be beneficial. Or read a book. Read Malcom X's autobiography. Or Richard Wright. Or any number of Harlem Renaissance writers.

The Beatles could have played the game as most other bands did at the time. The fact that these four men made a stand against the Jim Crow laws and American apartheid is highly significant. They did this because most of their musical heroes were Black and they did not grow up in a society that applied apartheid laws. Racism is a very powerful set of ideas rooted in capitalist society, but we can resist it as the Beatles did consistently. There is a history of racism and a history of anti racism and the Beatles firmly belong in the second category.

Look we are all one God creation. God made only one Adam and one Eve and from that one only divine creation all I mean all mankind black white yellow and red people that live on this planet came to be. So if you made a deep DNA scan you can see that you have all these different color race DNA built in your system why??? Because God created only one man and woman in the beginning of time and all of us don’t matter colors of skin came out of that only creation. We only have one planet earth and we all have to learn to live and love one another no matter color
