I usually comment in French, as we're both French and live in the same region, but since you've shot this video in english, I'll just go ahead and drop my comment in the same language. What a terrific surprise, to see you reaching out to the english speaking audience, and make them (re)discover some good old youngtimers. Your english is quite nice, by the way! The 406 remains unquestionably amongst the best sedans from the 90's. It has aged very well, and even today, it's surprisingly modern in terms of handling and overall driving experience. Even its design still lives up to what I expect a sedan to look like! It's sleek, elegant, and simple. Every time I come across one, it brings back so many good memories, and I wish I could find myself a beautiful example with the ES9 V6 engine and an automatic transmission. But those are getting harder and harder to come by, especially in good condition and with reasonable mileage. I've fallen in love with your 406 ever since I first saw it, and I'm glad to hear that you're still using it on a daily basis. It's a testimony of how well these cars were built, and it might encourage people not to hesitate picking one up! Anyway, I'll try to keep it short here... big thumbs up for this great idea you've just come up with. Keep more videos like this coming, and maybe you could also try and broaden your audience with german, as I know you lived in Germany for a little while. Keep it up dude, it's ALWAYS a genuine pleasure to watch your content!

Greetings from Brazil! Sweet car and nice review! We had this model for a few years, very few sold units unfortunately, because it was was imported and Peugeot was nearly unknown and also didn’t had a good reputation as a brand over here. We also had the gorgeous coupe as well, those have nearly disappeared from the used market and the owners are charging premium prices. I particularly like the facelift model, that blue one that appears on Ronin driven by Robert DeNiro through Paris streets chasing the BMW M5 soon comes to mind when we talk about the 406.

Well,hello from Greece! I really enjoyed your 406 review. I got a new facelifted 1.8l rouge vulcain back in 2001 as my first car which is still my only car. Here in Greece, the facelifted model sold more units than the pre facelifted, which was available with petrol engines starting with the old 1.6. The facelifted model got as basic engine the 1,8l EW starting from the spring of 2001. It's sad to see how expensive new cars have turned to be loaded with all those electronic stuff, let alone the loss of a specific identity. Keep on the good work and enjoy your car for many many years!

I had one the same colour about 20 years ago here in Australia. Wonderful car. Mine had the alloys and the tan colour velvet seats. A great car for Australian conditions as it cruised effortlessly and soaked up the bad roads. I once raced a big V8 engine Australian made Holden and I was faster on the tight winding and rough road as the 406 suspension and handling was far superior. He beat me quickly on the straight parts of course with his V8…

I liked this video as it was clear and in English. I am not French, I inherited a 1998 pre-facelift 406 from my dad in 2001, 1.9TD, Right hand drive. ( it was his second 406 company car, he bought it from Shell when he retired the year before). A comfortable car to drive. I liked the ability to dead lock the car, and you could lock the boot with the key inserted in the lock , and it could only be unlocked with the key being reinserted. Mine had a Peugeot factory fitted alarm , which could be deactivated by the interior door handle, which rendered it useless. The first 406 (1996) my dad had, included the keypad immobiliser, the second (1998 ) did not, peugeot stopped installing them as the wires apparently broke with the up and down movement of keypad, they went back to the chip in the key idea. I still have the scissor jack from this car, as it is far better quality than modern jacks that is included with the spare wheel.👍🇬🇧 Please do more English video’s…

These do have really good brakes, was one of the things I liked about mine. Your one might have some low quality pads or old fluid etc. If I was you invest in some new discs and pads, and some new rubber hoses with a good flush and new fluid as well. Use some quality parts from Textar or ATE or Brembo or TRW etc. Look at a parts seller in Estonia called Spareto for really good prices. The parts are cheap still and it will make you love it even more.

I have watched this video over and over again, so just again some comments. The igniting orange bulb of te engine is normal at the start, it should disappear after a few seconds, just the same time as the oil level disappears. The PIN code to start the engine was a nice item at the time, but now it is useless and can couse issues. You can disable it by starting the engine using the code, then ( with a running engine ) remove the power cables, seal them and put it back. From now on you do not need this feature anymore. Just remember the code if you want to install it again. Furthermore there should be a printed 6 digits number under the hood on top of one of the springs, usualy the left one. This number ( in your case ) ends with 89, which means that it was produced in Sochaux, like all SV's where produced there. So your number could be 691289, meaning that it was the 6912th day since a day in 1976 i believe that this car was produced. On the internet you can find a tool to configure the exact production day of your car. Just for info. Enjoy your 406 as i do, and keep it in that shape. As i have said before, it should have it's original alloy wheels to make it real original.

Thank you very much!! In my case the check engine light appears here and there, probably some minor electronic issue 🤷🏼 Thanks for the production number tip, I didn’t know that! And regarding the alloys, I’m pretty sure mine came out of the factory with hubcaps, alloys were optional

@user-di5nf8sd2b10 ай бұрын
It’s simply the number of the departement. In this case, « 06 » means that this car was registred on « Alpes-Maritimes », especially around Nice, near the Italian border. All of the others caracters doesn’t have a specific signification. On the old french registration system, when license plates where yellow like the english ones, the number of the departement could be seen on the two last caracters, insteed of those ones on the blue line.

I find the Xantia with the same 135 cv Engine is as good as the 406, plus it has a more floaty feel and it is more practical because of the hatch. I don't agree with the magazine on that regard :-)

Looks a bit less elegant, but I agree for the hatch and the comfort. Less sporty too. I’d love to try one!
@sebastianfernandez3974 Жыл бұрын
@@authentiquesautos It's interesting: comparing the 406 with the Xantia becomes a very subjective task. Both are equally comfortable and have super road holding, space and interior quality. I believe the main differences have to do with a different style and feel. The Xantia will feel more floaty and with more body roll (unless you have the Hydractive, in that case it would be close to the 406, and I leave the Activa aside because it's isn't a normal car 😅) but more indirect. The 406 more "sporty", but overall they both excel in this domain. The Xantia with the "VSX" alloy wheels looks particularly elegant! (check the "vert vega" one 😍). Probably the best cars PSA has ever made. If you try a Xantia ensure the suspension is working as it should, they often are neglected and you will get a false impression.

Nice review!, could have been mine. I own myself a blue SV from 1996 exactly the same as yours, only missing the steer handle for the audio system. ( in The netherlands such options were only available on a SVE, and these are very rare ) My car has 158000 km. I also have a 1996 SV in Sherwood green for daily use. This one has 254000 km. Also unigue that this one has no AC or rear window screen, but a roof window instead. I also prefer the phase one to be more elegant and technical better. Phase two comes with an on board computer, so enough said. I started driving a 406 in 2009 when i finaly could buy one for good money. Drove this SV twelve years as a work horse and she ended in the shredder. Of my current cars one will be driven to the end, the other one ends up in a museum. Why should one drive old crap or modern crap if there is the 406? ( By the way: The box behind the rear seat is mentioned for an emergency kit )

Interesting to see those subtle differences from a market to another. Your 406 deserves a long career! Cheers ;)
@holtvluwer Жыл бұрын
@@authentiquesautos In France the 406 had more options as standard. In The Netherlands the SV version had alloy wheels just as shown in the magazines you have. Should be on your car too to keep it original. Further the mist lamps, colored mirrors, and wood all around the car. Options were the rear window screen, the AC, and the passenger airbag. So i own myself a full options Dutch SV and also a less option one, but still SV. Things like leather seats only came on the SVE, or later in the Phase 2 model that i don't like that much. Most family cars were 1.8 SL or SR. Business cars mostly 1.8 ST. The rest were diesels. Hardly no one would would pay for a 2 liter SV and the luxury, because it added not that much compared with te taxes. Those people with money bought themselves a 3 liter V6, mostly a coupe version. Coupe's had their time of being valued. Most of the best ones are saved by their owners, but on the current market you see prices of Coupe's dropping. SL, SR, and diesels are gone to the shredder or export. Only a ST or SV is going price upwards nowadays. Let both our SV's have a long career.

Im Czech, as I made some money at 18 yo, I wanted a car, first of all I wanted some old cheap car that was easy to work on if it broke and parts were cheap.. So I looked at 1988 Škoda 120 that was listed for around 20k CZK (800Euro), after I seen it I said nope, those are old, shitty cars but whe worked needed to be done on them would be more expensive then whole car.. So I looked around and there was Blue Peugeot 406 1999 Sedan (after facelift) with 1.8 16v petrol engine (I dont like diesel tbh so only petrol for me) with 192k km.. Honestly loved that car ever since and it was only 30k CZK (1200Euro) Its in verry good condition, not as good as in video but still good, basicly no problems and comfy, and I have to say, for me more elegant and simple then the pre facelift.. I have lower specification no basic A/C, only powered windows in front and manual mirrors and no fake wood.. Blue car (Chine de Blue I think) and grey interior. But for my its more elegant than this. Dashboard is more clean, dials look kinda more modern, you dont have that passager airbag think, you just have clean black plastic across, the steering wheel looks better on newer models, also the car is refined to me, you dont have that line on the trunk, you have clear headlights and more agressive looking grill. Honestly it looks like Nisan Silvia but smaller and 4door sedan. I also like these older prefacelift models, but for me the post facelift one is just the perfect car I could have owned, and with that blue color I have Im more then happy to have it.. Only thing I dont like is the fuel consumption, 8l/100km is kinda okay but when you give it gas it goes up like 10/100km. Othervise its perfect the way it is, and people did great job with this car. My parents own a 206 (2000 with 1.6l petrol) that is another underrated fun little car.. Great video and wish you the best of luck on the road :)
