My father in law was German (in his words, a hamburger). When we went here about 20 years ago or so, he said it was interesting, but a fun place to go. I asked if the food was good or not and he said "you know me, all food is good".

He knew his stuff! Clicking on this video I was not expecting that. I mean, he was able to explain why Laugenbrötchen (lye rolls) are called that and why they have the crust and color they have. Ask a regular young German and they probably would have no idea whatsoever.

The problem with Americans and the sauerkraut is that they think that it is a complete dish right out of the jar. But that is just the base, you have to cook it down with other ingredients, like bacon to make it a dish. That is why many people say that they don't like it because they haven't had proper kraut. People, stop just eating it out of the jar like that, prepare it properly.

Having studied culinary arts in Germany and then working all over the world as a chef, there are some pavilions at Epcot that are pretty authentic but the German pavilion was the worst!! I would rate it a 2/10 for authentic good quality German cuisine. I was also surprised that they served America mustard instead of German mustard. In general I have hardly ever seen an authentic German potato salad in the US. I don’t understand why Disney do not get a top German Chef to develop the menus and train the staff

There's a lot of things at Disney that we don't understand. Where has been the best German cuisine you've had outside of Germany?
@FPAlpha
@FPAlpha 7 ай бұрын
I think 2 reasons - they don't care to make it authentic because it's for US Americans and only a few have actually been to Germany to tell the difference. Second - most cuisines get adapted to local tastes. Ask actual chinese people that go to a typical general chinese restaurant outside of China - they will barely recognize any dish there. Might taste good but it won't be authentic chinese food.

@@ohmandisney6923 I’ve had great German food in Australia, Singapore, Namibia, South Africa, Argentina and a few other places. I live in Florida, I’ve not found a single place that’s authentic. I often cook a German food for my American friends and neighbors, and they love it! So i think dumbing down the cuisines is lazy…… people today look for authenticity

You have to remember: most people are average. Average people like average things. It is a theme park. When your kids are screaming for food you don’t care if it is authentic anything. Personally there is a lot of stuff across WDW that I make myself far better then they do. But they are trying to make money by satisfying the most amount of people. I have not done this particular restaurant because I can get better German food in my hometown of Cincinnati: Munich’s sister city for Oktoberfest.

I love the Bavarian Cheesecake there. The Biergarten is always a 'must' stop for me & my husband whenever we go to DisneyWorld.
@AndreGerritzen
@AndreGerritzen 7 ай бұрын
And the bavarian Cheesecake is 100% authentic because it is an american recipe. In germany nobody knows what a bavarian cheesecake looks like. The same with the german chocolate cake. The recipe was invented in 1957 in dallas, texas.
@leannsmarie
@leannsmarie 7 ай бұрын
@@AndreGerritzen It is 100% from Bavaria. You might know it as Münchner Topfenkuchen (oder auch Käsekuchen or even Quarkkkuchen). Instead of using American style cream cheese, it uses Quark. There are lots of recipes in Germany for this style of cheesecake. The one served at the Biergarten calls for Farmer's Cheese since it was more readily available and is similar to quark. I know it calls for that because I asked them for the recipe. Reference: Bavarian National Cookbook - Anonymous - 1824. Page 305: Cake, curd cake (quark cake) Bayrisches Nationalkochbuch - Anonym - 1824. Seite 305: Kuchen, Topfenkuchen (Quarkkuchen)

I've been to Brauhausen and Biergarten in Munich, Koln, Hamburg and Berlin but Ive eaten only a fraction of this stuff at them. the target has always been the beer (dunkelbrau oder hellesbrau). Later in the evenening, the food seems to either br an Indian curry or a Turkish gyro.

This place seems like a typical tourist trap where Americans that don't know the difference will think this is a good representation of German cuisine. I'm biased but the best authentic German food from a restaurant is Helgas in Aurora, CO.
