Advice for keeping bees: Bees are all about the water source. They can fly all day to flowers. They aren't worried about that. They are picky about where they set up a hive based on which way their main entrance faces and how easy it is from their door to a good constant water source. If they only get water a few times a day when you water plants they may say Eh let's try somewhere else. They are picky about sunlight and vulnerability to predators. The flowers is a nice perk but will mainly be to bring bees from other areas 😂 Also if they get happy and grow fast they will split! Half the hive will leave to find a new place. That's good and means they are thriving 👍

I successfully gave chicks from Tractor Supply to one of our broody hens. Make sure the chicks are under 3 days old and slip them under her in the evening. Easy peasy. Good Luck!

Hi Angie, there are hydrangeas for the shadow and they can grow very big, too. So you can still grow them around your seating area. Most of them are blooming red and have dark green leaves

If you are going to do a surrogate hen, you’re going to want to get your chicks from an online hatchery. Chicks from online hatchery are usually just a day or two old. Chicks from Tractor Supply tend to be a little bit older. In order for your chicks to bond with the surrogate, they need to be, no more than a few days old. If they are too old, even if the hen takes them, they may not take to her. So once you have a broody hen, let her sit on eggs for about a week, then place your order online to be delivered shortly after, then AT NIGHT replace the eggs with the chicks and cross those fingers! I would still of course have a back up brooder ready and check on mama & babies first thing in the AM to make sure everyone is getting along ☺️

If you have a broody hen when they are all asleep at night sneak the babies under momma it's worked out for me a couple times just choose the gentle mommas not the crazy ones

My children always ask me the what would you do if questions... What would you do if a lion was chasing you? I would just lay down and let them it eat me. What would you do if there was a tornado coming? I'd get in the car and let it take me...haha and the list goes on. So I agree with you that if the big 💥 would happen I'd want to be gone the first day!!

I grew up in the 70s &80s (during the cold war ) and remember a bunch of us being at my friends house and we somehow got in a conversation about nuclear war with her mom. Costco on the west coast sells Alaskan Wild Salmon patties that are delicious! I usually pick chicks up from our local CoOp. This year we wanted to expand and I ordered 30 chicks from a mail order hatchery- half of them died within the first few days. They sent me replacements, of which 4 more died. They do not seem as hardy as the ones from the CoOp! So I agree with you to buy them locally. Lesson learned. If you have a broody hen that has chicks the same age, you can slip in new ones at night. She wakes up with them and thinks they’ve hatched😉 Worked last year for me- I incubated and hatched 11 of them. Thank you for the gardening companion sheet😊

I'm a law student (studying to be an estate planner) and the way I approach emergency preparedness is in line with the way one of my professors described the difference between life insurance and annuities: "life insurance is a bet you'll die tomorrow, an annuity is a bet you'll live forever." It's important not to go all-in on one or the other. It's important to "hedge" your bet to some extent. In preparedness, it's good to have some self-reliance and skills that can help you survive because you never know what might happen. But, at the same time, you can't let it become all-consuming because you might find that nothing ever happened and you wasted all that time, money, and energy that could have been spent enjoying your life. I like to purchase "preps" that serve a dual fun/emergency purpose (such as baking supplies and camping gear). I disagree that a nuke drop is an immediate death scenario (unless it's right on top of you) but, honestly, no one is prepared for that scenario so it'll be more about community and your own endurance in times of hardship. 💞

Does Thread Up have stuff for menfolk? If yes, do you think there would be value in having hubby show the occasional outfit along with the ones you get? My thinking: May help the ladies generate ideas for gifts or general wardrobe improvement. Us few menfolk that watch would get a unique benefit, but I'm not sure if your effort is worth that part. I'm pretty tired of dudes telling me what dude stuff to wear and it often looks awful, or is too expensive. A different perspective wouldn't just be nice, it would be refreshing. Honestly, you don't need much land - depending on what you want long term. I'd start with a backyard garden and go (grow😉) from there 💗

One thing that has always put me off about Thred Up is their estimated retail pricing claims. I bought a sweater that had a specific retail price listed on their site, and then when I got it, the price on the tag was considerably less. I complained and they took it back. Do the estimated prices on your items match up with what they advertised?

I've never had that issue - but I'm sure with all the inventory there are mistakes made, glad they took it back and made it right!

The dogs needs kiddie pool or dirt-sand mix box just for them (outdoor cats will use it too 💩 so be aware but if they are outdoor dogs; it is what it is) might save your plants!
