Some one once said Duelist Kingdom was like D&D with Yugioh Which makes it make a lot of sense when you think about it

It was, in the manga duels in duelist Kingdom were more akin to D&D than a card game however they wanted to promote a card game so in the anime most of the plays weren't properly adapted

The rules of the game in the show changed all the time. Yugi didn’t cheat any more than anyone else on the show.
@BlueSparxLPs28 күн бұрын
Atem did cheat, explicitly. In the original Japanese, during the final duel of the show, it's stated outright that Atem uses his power to will the card he wants to his hand. He literally uses magic to stack his deck in every duel (though the dub made up "Heart of the Cards" and just uses this explanation instead).

Yugi/Atem with a modern deck would still be unbeatable. Drawing any cards you want always ensure that you get the game ending combo/hand traps you need to always stop your opponent. Modern Yugi would be even more busted.

It's explained later in the anime that Pegasus didn't design any of the cards he just copied them from the Egyptian hieroglyphics. He didn't know he was copying actual magic rituals. So it can be theorized that in duelist kingdom Yugi can have his giant soldier of stone destroy the moon because an IRL giant soldier of stone could. When Kaiba took over during battle city he mentioned that he banned a bunch of cards. We know Kaiba was a genius as his duel disk is capable of creating much more realistic holograms than the standard holo stadium. It's reasonable to think that Kaiba was able to patch out a lot of the IRL magic from the cards. The real reason of course is that they just wanted to put Yugi in a seemingly unwinnable situation only for him to come up with a creative solution. Yugi was originally going to play different games each season so the writers didn't bother creating actual rules for the game. Duel Monsters ended becoming super popular and the series shifted to Yugi just playing Duel Monsters. With the shift to Duel Monsters as the focus of the show and the emergence of the physical card game the writers started to actually follow the rules.

Gonna make this comment as I hit the Strings duel. I've long shaken my head at how Strings (well, Marik really) played that one. He got blinkered into relying on Slifer, but really, if he'd summoned pretty much any other monster then he'd have taken Yugi's LP down to 0 pretty quickly. Use those cards in your hand! After a certain point it doesn't matter how big Slifer's ATK is!

Are we talking about Yugi or Atem? If it's just Yugi, then I could say he's an actual skilled player, if not the best. This guy is still considered the best duelist to ever exist even after decades of his story's end. Heck, even Kaiba needed plot armor just to not officially lose. If he would join a modern tournament irl, he's probably the guy who you'd see playing an off-meta that uses techs against the current format. Atem, on the other hand, literally had "draw the out" powers that come with his plot-relevant artifact. It's really hard to gauge how good would he really be in a defictionalized version of the game without his draw the out powers. He did, however, demonstrate that he could at least plan wincons for his games, both on the spot and pre-planned, and that he could also play a deck he didn't construct.
@Megamanthemachine28 күн бұрын
As for the arkana duel he literally spells it out for you he didn’t trust that arkana would shuffle the deck correctly the sub explains that Arkana never cut the deck correctly so he had intentionally did a cut in a way that would garraunte when he cut the deck and then put the card on the top he would have his dark magician in his hand ready of course the win condition you mentioned earlier would work assuming if arkana simply didn’t set a trap when he sees yugi put alpha in attack mode it’s common sense so yugi was overthinking things there but with genuine reason he could tell he cheated the cut so he reset both of their hands.
@rushalias851128 күн бұрын
I mean I also thought the whole point of the arkana duel is also basically them trying to show who's the better dm player. I think back about that Strings duel every once in a while, and as cool as the infinite loop seemed at the time, I now think the duel would have been a lot better if Marik and Yugi both knew about the deck out strategy from the start and they were both making plays to either force or prevent the deck out while keeping track of the amount of cards Marik still had left, and the Brain Control play could have just been one of several plays Yugi made to lead to the deckout.

Vs Arkana... YES! It would be a fast victory for Yami... BUT DUE TO THE MANGA AND ANIME HAVE DIFFERENT RULES.... The anime had to extend the game to fit the 20 minutes mark... making bad plays like that sadly.... and DUE to the anime having to AT LEAST have the plot points of the chapter/episode... the staff reeeeally needed to: 1°: show the cards to sell... 2°: having a story and the dramatic moments in play. AND YES! IN THE MANGA THE DUELS ARE VERY FAST PACED UNLIKE IN THE ANIME! Kaiba vs Yugi at the Tower had 4 episodes if I remember correctly and that was: 1° Takashi was still finishing the Yami vs Marik duel at the time. EVEN WITH THE FILLER ARC MADE TO BUY TIME! 2° sells even more cards... Even the last duel had to be extended to fit 2 episodes of dueling. Since the duel were rather "quick"

Heart of the cards? Another name for setting what card you want to draw on the top of your deck 😂. Seto was actually the better duelist. He may of lost to Yugi. But Seto was playing a fair game 99% of the time. It wasnt his fault that Yugi was letting a pharaoh who has magical powers take over his body to duel.
