Textured fros (un-picked Afros) are nothing new as you've demonstrated. We just know her by a different name this generation. I have seen photos of my great grandparents rocking theirs back in the day. I've asked my granny how she used to style hers it was water, conditioner and grease. It really is the easiest natural hairstyle, once you master your technique (foam gel foam on nearly dry hair is always a winner). As a former twist out girlie, I love not having to wait days for my twists to completely dry or avoid rain and humidity. Wake up, spritz with water, shake and go. Reliably easy hair, I never stress about 'bad' hair days now. That infamous method has people thinking wash n gos are bad, its the method not the style. No one will convince me that setting your natural curls are somehow inherently more damaging than creating artificial curls like twist outs. It just doesn't make sense. It's obviously the method (imo, the girlies were over stripping and under replenishing the natural oils).

This was a really interesting video!!! I will say tho... something I noticed about the majority of your examples...they are all light skinned. There is something to be said about how and where colorism plays a role in this. Because your examples didn't show dark skin women rocking fros and/or those who had a much tighter curl pattern. Just something that occurred to me while watching. I do wonder the role of colorism and proximity to whiteness in the evolution of the wash n go. The lack of representation of other tighter textures I think is an important factor as to why the wash n go is usually ment to be loose, big, smooth curls and NOT textures that are kinkier. anyways, as always, I love your videos and I love your humor!!

I tried to put some pieces together to make it make sense lol My examples were black women that popped into mind first instead of how dark their skin was but I did make sure there was some dark skin representation. But where and how colorism played a part with who was seen on tv is a totally different conversation that wasn’t the focus. That’s another monster I wasn’t trying to attack in this video🤣 that would be a 8 part mini series😹
