Just a regular garden hose and some muc off. My local trail has a great wash station setup that I normally use and driving home gets everything nice and dry.

That's perfect! Is the wash station free to use?
@JeffMTBinVA6 ай бұрын
@@gmbn Yes, it is. Actually a 2 bike station with a concrete pad, 2 hoses and padded hangers to hook your bike on. The park is free too, but I would gladly pay if they would improve the trails more.

He is being careful with the pressure washer spray but the pro bikes get broken down, serviced and put back together often. It wouldn't matter if you accidentally spray the bearings.
@SpudicusMaximus6 ай бұрын
I'm sure the bikes are broken down on a regular basis, just not between every run. They DO wash the bike between every run. If his washing technique was an issue, the bike would be problematic the next run. Obviously, it does matter. Then again, if you are that worried, don't use a pressure washer.
@JB507136 ай бұрын
@@SpudicusMaximusNah it wouldn't be an issue after each wash but a regular rider using one all year long it could be. I don't use a pressure washer.

If you’re a pro racer in UCI events they probably do. I day this because it takes a team mechanic and sponsors to do this. If you don’t have a sponsor then those parts can be very pricey. Otherwise you’re stuck with the costs.
@livefreeandshred98186 ай бұрын
Easy solution. Service your bike 🤷🏼♂️ I use a pressure washer every time I ride my bike (3-4 times a week) and I’ve been doing so for the past 10 years and I’ve NEVER had a bearing failure.

Here’s a very tip with value. Buy a good car wash soap (I use Chemical Guys) to wash your bike because you can also use it on your vehicle.

From an ex-detailer was disappointing not to see an air-compressor and chamois being used. Seeing one brush being wiped over the drive train and then the frame was painful to watch.

the Occasioinaly pressure wash dosen´t do anything to your bike as long as you stay of the "importend parts"... i do wash my bike mostly with a gardenhose thou (i don´t own a pressurewasher) and a jet attached to it...a bucket of soapy water (dishsoap) and 2 old Painters Brushes..(one for the chain and the casette) then dry it and relube what needs to be lubed..

With all due respect, that guy is clueless about how to wash a bike. You clean the dirtiest parts FIRST, not the other way around. After the pre-wash, the order should probably be drivetrain > wheels/tyres > frame. NO BRUSHING on the frame (unless you're sponsored), as it will scratch the paint. Instead you use one of those microfiber gloves to soap up the frame. You use DIFFERENT brushes for the drivetrain and the wheels/tyres, as to not contaminate your tyres and disc rotors with lube.

if you care so much about scratches on your bike..you better not ride it!😉

@@Bitplanebrother With the current price for bikes in general, I would think most people would care somewhat about scratches. Specially self-inflicted ones that can be easily avoided by not following the advice in this video. But more power to you if you don't care. The rest of us would like to keep our bikes as good as new for as long as we can.

@@gmbn If the idea was to show how a WC team wash their bikes, ok. But as a reference guide for the rest of us mere mortals that are not sponsored and get 2-3 free new bikes every season PLUS a new chain every new day riding... it's rubbish. Even Blake can do a better job washing his bike. This is only a critique of this pro mechanic's process. Rich did a great job, made the right questions and it even seems at times to be doubtful about the mechanic's process by the tone of his questions.

I rinse it with a hose, dry it, Motorex Bike Shine (Water repellent) on everything except brakes of course, wipe off, finished. I find cleaners unnecessary, all they do is washing out your bearings...

I have been using dish soap and a garden hose low pressure except for the tires. I use the dish soap directly on the chain like putting oil but I put dish soap and clean the chain last. My chain always comes out perfect 👌. I use a bucket with dish soap in it and a brush for the tires. I don't understand why using a pressure washer it is just a risk to damage bearings, paint, any components aren't pressure resistant
@gmbn6 ай бұрын
Dish soap is great but you have to make sure it's watered down loads before applying it to your bike. It's a great degreaser for getting oil off your dishes/chain but it's not so good for your bearings. Dedicated bike cleaners take this into account and make formulas that don't strip grease out of bearings 🤙
@bmxscape6 ай бұрын
@@gmbn obviously dish soap isnt good for your bearings.... thats why you dont use a pressure washer. bicycle freehubs, hubs, bottom brackets and headsets use a "drip" type seal, meaning drops of water will drip off. they do not prevent high pressure water from entering but they will prevent water from escaping if it gets inside.

you only need to use any sort of cleaner for the drivetrain. everything washes off with water since you have to brush or wipe it anyway. like muc-off tells you to 'aggetate' it. if you do that, just use water
