It is cool! It’s different and kinda refreshing because older interviewers seem to have a less general knowledge of the musician or a more tame spirit that they are interviewing, in this case Mac... and I think that kinda made Mac nervous or whatever like how some have said because it’s not about the theatrics of how “hip” an interview could or should be!

Yeah, it's an old interviewing style, and they were the champions of it. Less of a focus on the conversation and more of an analysis of the answers. Mac Demarco is a really different musician. He is not the type of musician who is obsessed with $$$. I say that because I live in a city in Northeast Brazil where not many know musicians come to have shows at... Well, they do come, but only in their old age where theyre not that famous anymore.. Well, Mac Demarco came and had a show here in Olinda, Pe. Brazil, Mac came right in his peak of fame. & that is a pretty dang cool thing for a musician to do.

Mac's attitude to his music inspires my music so much, like to me its not his music that he makes that inspires me but the way he creates his music just in his bedroom with random instruments he's collected over the years, a few microphones and some analog recording equipment. he has this carefree attitude where he just has fun with it, he actually enjoys making the music and listening to it back makes him smile and edges him on to create more. Im a 2nd year sound engineering student in ireland and last year i was sitting in a industrial recording studio like classroom, working with equipment i vaguely understand, working on protools all day with all this over the head info trying to make sense in my mind thinking "i love music but do i love making music?". but now i just want to be a creator like mac, i spend my time just going into the booth and singing whatever i feel like, play what feels right with those vocals, make adjustments, add reverb, modulate, automate something crazy cuz why not, just having fun with it and getting my head out of the midi sampling and just throwing in the studio head first. this interview just stands out to me as a reflection of macs attitude, like the very formal interviewer was asking "why this old dog?" and mac basically saying " i dont know, its a metaphor for dad but at the same time i like literal old dogs" like obviously not word for word but thats what i basically picked up and im just sitting here just loving the fuck it why not attitude he has. I want to watch mac and how he spends his day more than i want to listen to his music no joke i just think he is such an interesting character and i take inspiration from him

This was a pretty week interview. I know Charlie Rose is one of the greatest interviewers of all time, but he clearly didn't take the time to learn anything about Mac or listen to the album. I fell like this was a quick google search and that's it. I mean going down the list asking him what the songs are about. breezing past the important ones like they're nothing. I mean he treats Moonlight on the River like its any other song and flies right past all the emotional song points. He should've listened to or took the time to learn something about the album because he clearly didn't.
@LetThePoorStarve6 жыл бұрын
I mean the guy is 100 years old, not much chance he is a Mac fan
@mozisgoingplaces6 жыл бұрын
I am sorry but do you think that's how it works? You actually think Charlie Rose sits down to listen to the albums and read the books and see the movies of everybody that he interviews? No, there is a team that does research and they produce the questions. Charlie Rose uses his journalistic skills to talk to people trying to get answers, but it is not his job necessarily to be well versed in the works of every person he has on the show.
@Alex_Mac_6 жыл бұрын
Moz R I know exactly how it works. I'm in media, I conduct interviews every day. Neither he or any people did any hw on this. You don't watch the full movie or read the book (most of the time, often skim), but you do read a few published reviews so you know what's going on. This was a Wikipedia search. Just flipping down the album going what's this song about, that's intern level.
@mozisgoingplaces6 жыл бұрын
Well, I didn't feel it was an awful interview honestly, but I clearly wasn't expecting Charlie Rose to be a fan. It is odd, if you work in media, that you expected Rose to listen to a record instead of having his interns give him notes, as it usually works. But you should know, you work in media. Sorry, I don't want to be an ass, I just can't help it sometimes. Other than that, nice music taste. Mac is awesome.
@chamber32doors6 жыл бұрын
This interview is a great example of why people hate being interviewed. Anyone watching this already knows the answer to every one of his questions Charlie Rose asks. I know that he's a 100 years old but the fact is he doesn't care about Mac De Marco and it shows. Just retire already.

What a disrespectful interview by Charlie Rose. Maybe he was under time constraints and just couldn't put the time in to find some backstory about the guy or his music, but at least try to put some effort into learning by asking him meaningful questions. I haven't seen Charlie Rose in a while but I remember that's really what made him such a great interviewer back in the day. He wanted to learn about the person he was interviewing and their motives. This interview consisted of, "So I heard you're indie... What is that? Oh yeah, my notes say here that you did this song about your dad, right?... Oh and this song too.
