Jody that's because the new ones are built like 💩. They are designed to fail sooner so you'll be more inclined to buy a new washer. The older ones predate that "disposable" mindset of today and were made to last a lifetime.

I don’t remember the old washers ever smelling like mold and needing to be cleaned with a bleach cycle. Now we run a bleach cycle every few weeks, and I just learned on KZbin that I’m supposed to wipe and dry the creases located around the machines door. Next washing machine I get will be a top loading “collectible”.

I'm obsessed with laundry too. I can't afford those big machines so I started collecting small portable washing machines. There's such bliss watching the machine take out dirt and moving back and forth. Maybe it's because we love the sound of soothing water and the comfort of clean soft clothes. ❤️

I'm here because I just had a crazy dream that I met a washing machine collector, who led me to his collection. It was a vast field of washing machines, and maybe even some dryers, sometimes stacked two high, an uninhabited city of washing machines, as far as the eye could see. He told me he'd go to laundromats when they were closing or changing machinery to get as many as he could at the best price. Some worked, some didn't. I did some laundry in the open air. Then I came here to see if there were actually washing machine collectors, and here it is. These guys take better care of theirs than the guy in my dream though. He was trying to reintroduce them to the wild or something.
