Jody that's because the new ones are built like 💩. They are designed to fail sooner so you'll be more inclined to buy a new washer. The older ones predate that "disposable" mindset of today and were made to last a lifetime.

I don’t remember the old washers ever smelling like mold and needing to be cleaned with a bleach cycle. Now we run a bleach cycle every few weeks, and I just learned on KZbin that I’m supposed to wipe and dry the creases located around the machines door. Next washing machine I get will be a top loading “collectible”.

These guys are my soul-mates. Growing up, we had a 1962 German Constructa fully automatic front loader. I used to pull a stool it front of it when I was little, and I would watch it for hours. I also remember throwing a fit at the department store, not because I wanted a toy, but because I wanted one of the washing machines.

I'm obsessed with laundry too. I can't afford those big machines so I started collecting small portable washing machines. There's such bliss watching the machine take out dirt and moving back and forth. Maybe it's because we love the sound of soothing water and the comfort of clean soft clothes. ❤️

I'm here because I just had a crazy dream that I met a washing machine collector, who led me to his collection. It was a vast field of washing machines, and maybe even some dryers, sometimes stacked two high, an uninhabited city of washing machines, as far as the eye could see. He told me he'd go to laundromats when they were closing or changing machinery to get as many as he could at the best price. Some worked, some didn't. I did some laundry in the open air. Then I came here to see if there were actually washing machine collectors, and here it is. These guys take better care of theirs than the guy in my dream though. He was trying to reintroduce them to the wild or something.

I don't know what it is, but I'll stick in a screwdriver to defeat the safety switch and watch the machine go through it's entire cycle. I don't make a regular habit of this, but if I'm bored, I find it relaxing and mesmerizing. I have a c1989 Kenmore that was built by Whirlpool and I did some repairs on it several times and it's still going strong. Thanks for the video. I thought I was losing my mind!!

I just recently bought my first washing machine. It hooks up to the kitchen sink and has two tubs; one to wash and one to spin dry. I was addicted to watching these types of machines on KZbin as I tried to determine which machine to buy. My washer is still my favorite toy and I love getting to be so hands on, customizing my wash cycle. I wish I had room to collect washers, I get “it”.

Growing up we had a 1956 Westinghouse laundromat... The famous one that slanted at a forty-five degree angle. I used to love to go downstairs in the basement and watch the thing go through the whole cycle. Although it's been decades, in my memory I can see and feel exactly what it was like to turn the thing on. Betty Furness used to do TV commercials for the machine and it always and she always ended saying"You can be sure if it's Westinghouse"
