I use pantyhose/knee highs . It keeps the skeins tight enough to not unravel but loose enough to wash nicely.

Thank you. I’ve done this with yarn that was stored in a basement and a hot water pipe had a hole in it that sprayed everything. I forgot the (box store)yarn was there. I put each skein of 6 into its own mesh laundry bag. Yes I had one yarn barf too. But!! It came out great!

In addition to new yarn, I, of course, purchase yarn from yard sales and charity shops, church rummage sales, and the like. Sometimes, some of the prettiest yarn is scratchy! I'm going to give your technique a go. I also, like the comment above regarding pantyhose.

I would put them on my swift and re-wind them so they dry quicker. Or leave em dry au natural. 😊
