A week and ended up having to wash during day 4 and they actually stayed together pretty well but at the roots a lot of them unravel so I wonder if I need to go ahead and retwist my self or this is just the process and continue to let it be unless they do unravel foreal

I am so glad SOMEBODY addressed this myth because I've encountered far too many people on my loc journey who also have locs that think going weeks or months and in some cases not washing their hair more than once a year is ok! It's disturbing! I'm from Barbados and I grew up seeing people head to the beach every Sunday armed with aloe vera and a bottle of shampoo cause water assists with the locking process so I was so shocked and confused when I decided to start my locs and joined a few loc pages and groups to find out that people actually think it's ok and even necessary to avoid washing their hair!

My biggest hesitation about washing was the unraveling/detangling. But I had to realize that the health of my scalp (I have seb derm) should be prioritized over having the "perfect locs". This vid was like a strong confirmation of that for me. Very encouraging for someone who is 5 months loc'd ✊🏾✊🏾 Edit: My old loctitian told me to wait 6 weeks in between washes. I fired her and I'm suffering alot less now lmaoo

@realwayne86
@realwayne86 2 жыл бұрын
@@AwesomationGames You can wash your hair on the usually basic like every week or two. I would recommend you to spray purified water on your hair and scalp daily before the time comes before you actually washing it. A lot of people goes weeks with oil only and no water on the hair and scalp. For your condition, try not to use to much product that will cause that derm condition. For example, if you used to wash your hair every two weeks before you had dreads, since you have dreads now... Put some purified water in a spray bottle. Let's say you had a retwist on Friday, Spray your hair and scalp with the water in the morning daily, Saturday- Tuesday. 2. Spray water On your scalp Wednesday morning and put oil on it. Water comes first before oil. 3. Keep spraying water on on your scalp throughout the week until wash day. A lot of people wait until their next retwist for a wash but spraying water on your hair daily is good for the hair and scalp. It will keep the dandruff in place and breakup those build up from the product.

@@AwesomationGames you welcome. I used the Jamaican locking gel and bees wax until my hair get longer before i detox the chemical out; that is my cheat code lol 🤣. I add a half of bottle of purified water in the Jamaican locking gel to make it water based so it can kill majority of the chemicals in there so my scalp won't get irritated by causing residue and dandruff. The black Bees wax is good if your hair is short and you are trying to hold it until your hair get a certain length. As you noticed, people that tells you bees wax or certain gel is not good because they have longer dreads and don't need that products anymore. My first set of locs was done with bee's wax and gel and my second locs was done with hair grease and water which will not hold for locs so now I am back to the bees wax and gel. Like I said, let your dreads have something to hold until it gets longer for a detox or you will be disappointed Everytime you wash your hair because it will unravel. Anytime man... Good luck with your journey! Loc nation and nappy roots lol!

I'm 2 months in my journey with 4a/b texture. My loctician reluctantly washed my hair 4 weeks in on my first retwist and was frustrated with me because they started unraveling. In hindsight, she was too aggressive with it. The night of my second retwist, I was walking down apartment stairs and a dog peed on the stairs above me! YUCK!!! My hair was wrapped but that pee hit my head and I was done! I came across a few vids that recommended washing, as needed, and that's all I needed to know. I gently cleansed my scalp with vinegar, then added shampoo and gently rinsed using a cup instead of sitting directly under the faucet. I am relieved and like the way my hair swelled afterward. I don't mind being fuzzy but may take some time to separate the locs that start to stick together after my hair dries.

This video was needed 🙌🏿 Thank you. Guys, if you feel the need to wash your hair, it's probably the case. Don't feel any guilt, do it. You know your scalp. For my 2nd set (regular two strand twists and interlocked roots), the locktician said: "Wait 3 weeks. In fact, people with locks don't have to wash their hair every week like you. Use this spray for your scalp (DIY spray water + vegetal and essential oils+ glycerin). For you first shampoo, don't forget to dilute it." Me, a little worried because I know my scalp 😳 But I listened her advices. She's the professional. First 3 weeks: pimples because she interlocked too tight, buildup on the interlocked part (oils from the spray, then dandruff, then shampoo) 😭 At every appointment, she acted like she couldn't see the problem. Thanks to the lockdown, I decided to comb them out.

*(4C hair type)* I started washing my starter locs the second week, and they didn’t unravel either. Maybe a couple in certain areas but no big deal. I started them with finger coils btw and I used oils. I didn’t use clamps. I barely touched my head to wash tho; I let the water and shampoo do the job for me. I retwisted them myself after the wash then I washed and retwisted like 2 weeks after that now every monthish. I even deep conditioned a couple times before the wash. I threw in another wash like a week ago, but I didn’t retwisted I kinda like them a lil thicker now. I’ll be 4 months loc’d Xmas day

Much needed video. I have seborrheic dermatitis and my stylist told me not to wash it. Well, my scalp condition flared up bad and she still told me to hold off on washing. I was so confused because my locs started to look terrible. After watching this, I jumped in the showers and washed, and guess what…shit looks completely fine

Hi TPLOCKS just found this video of you from a year ago😱you look so young. I think once again you delivered a very informative video. I’m a nasty gal!🤣I’ve gone long periods where I have not washed my hair, coz of braids or weaves which I generally try to leave in place as long as possible. However since I’ve got locks (Dec21) I’ve not washed my hair. I do see a Loctition. I’m almost blind so can’t really manage my own hair. But since watching your videos it has given me the courage to relax sooooo much more with my hair, I can even palm roll new locks & even separate joined locks. My visit to my hairdresser was every 6 weeks to start with, but I’ve relaxed that a bit now. It was you that taught me to spritz my hair with rosewater & to oil my scalp. My Loctition is a raster, and he can be a bit too laid back (probably high) 🤣and forgets to tell me things. So glad im one of your Subscriber’s and can’t express to you enough of feeling the weight of uncertainty that I was feeling before I watched your videos. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK💖WISHING YOU, YOUR FAMILY & FOLLOWERS A BLESSED WEEKEND🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

So when I got my starter locs, I didn’t wash in the traditional sense of water and shampoo, but I cleaned my scalp with sea breeze and witch hazel. Now that I’m locked, wash day is once every four days or so, depending on what’s going on (work, exercise, etc.). I’ve found the switching from palm roll to inter loc and life are good! Wash and go while maintaining a fresh look and more time in between ”retwist.”

I'm a 4a. I washed mine after just 4 days with a wave cap. None of the locs came out, but also I started with instant locs using a crochet hook so in reality, naturally they were probably closer to 2 months. I let my hair dry completely before going to bed. Put my durag on and woke up in the morning and locs were still intact however I forget that when I wash my hair it curls up and shrinks for a day or two. Well that's what it did, but with locks. So instead of having locs that hung straight down or straight to the side, etc like the day before, I had locs curlin up in the middle, going in all different type of directions, and a bunch of frizz. I did some maintenance with the crochet hook to get it kinda back under control. They def looked better before, but it's aight. Next time I know what to expect.

This has been my MAIN and only reason for not starting my locs. I can't got that long without washing, I literally have to wash my hair every 5-7 days or it's a mess. My scalp will itch like crazy and my face will break out. I think I am ready to start now ☺ thank you for this video.

I had locs that I did on my own when I was 16, and I rarely washed my hair because I didn’t know any better. But when I did wash it, it was in the shower and barely had any affect because my scalp was still unclean and itchy. However, my hair would just barely unravel, and I would just re-twist it. That lasted for almost a year. Then I cut them because the itching was unbearable. I did my own locs again at 24. Same thing, washed my hair in the shower once every 3-4 weeks. By this age, I realize I have serious scalp and skin issues, and realize that I’m at a loss. After 1.7 years of having the locs which actually started to mature, I cut them because my scalp was suffering. Washing only once or twice a month in the shower had no effect on my scalp. Fast forward to age 46. I just twisted my hair which was 3-6 inches long. It took me about 15 hours lmao. After all these years, I’ve learned that I have to washed my hair every 2 maybe 3 days to keep a clean, healthy scalp. So half way through twisting my hair, I submerged my hair in water while taking a bath and lightly washed it with shampoo. I did this twice back to back. Then I re-twisted whatever parts loosened, which wasn’t much. Finally, I’m growing locs with a clean, non-itchy scalp. I’m on three months now, and I wash my hair in the bath every 2-3 days and re-twist as needed.

I would say for most people starting out locs it’s good to get a shower cap I got mine for like 10-12 dollars on Amazon and it works like a charm because once you get done washing you’re hair then you need to let it you know dry and you can’t go like 2-3 weeks without taking no shower at least for me I can’t so I need to have some type of shower cap on after I just washed my locs and did the retwist but you don’t want you’re locs to come out after you just got done washing and retwisting because for some people they may jump in the shower and think that no water is gonna touch their locs and maybe some water doesnt and maybe it does and it messes up that specific loc

But TP is completely right. Do what you need to do to keep your hair clean and reduce ITCHING! I asked her should I wash day before my retwist and she said no. I asked her if my retwist shouldn't get messed up after I wash and she just said if I wash my hair will take longer to loc.
