Just watched another 8mm video on KZbin and suddenly wondered if anybody ever tried to shoot anamorphic on super 8. Quick search, here it is. Looks super cool!

Really great footage! I’m actually working on a low-budget feature film project where we’re gonna shoot on Super 8, and there’s a time jump in the middle from the 1940s to the 1970s. So the first part will be shot in the normal Super 8 aspect ratio and the second part of the film in anamorphic, so it’s great to see others have been able to get successful footage using anamorphic lenses with Super 8! I showed this video to the producer to prove that it could work, and she was impressed and I think it helped her get on board with it

Thanks man! This was a lot of fun to shoot, and I was surprised how well it worked out. It's tricky to use.... plan for extra time on set. Let me know when your video is posted!

How did you mount the anamorphic lens? I have an old Bell & Howell/Kowa 2x, But I haven’t used it because I can’t find a mount for it. The rear screw threads are non-standard and it’s be too heavy to screw onto another lens anyway.

Larry Wilson The Isco anamorphic lens I used came with a screw clamp, which you can find on eBay. The screw clamp secures to the Isco, with threads on the opposite side that secures to the camera lens via filter ring adapters. It’s honestly a tedious production, but it does creat a quality image. I don’t know the ergonomics of your Bell & Howell, but my Nikon camera’s 67mm filter size and metal lens made the attachment workable.

Amazing. How in the hell did you manage do get the picture so sharp?! Which lens did you use?

Thank you! I shot on a Nikon R10-Super with an attached Isco x2 anamorphic lens. Kodak’s 50D film is pretty sharp.

Beautiful video, how do you transit from film to digital?

Mirko Angioni thank you. I had the film transferred by Pro8mm in Burbank California, mostly in 4k, with a 1080p upload.
