Mav is a really good interviewer. He asks great questions and allows the person to speak instead of talking over them or sharing his own stories the entire time.

More female athletes on the show is needed and great interview Maverick Carter, Elena Delle Donne one of my favorite WNBA player on and off the court she marches to her own beat and more importantly an athlete with a moral compass. Watch vids with her and her sister and you can see the deep love she has.

Watching clips with her and her sister touched me deeply--it is a deeply spiritual bond that I have never seen before. EDD humbles and amazes me in countless way. She is a moral and athletic leader for us all.

The WNBA season is 3 months long, another few weeks for playoffs which is extra pay. She really just sat up there and said she can't play a few extra months overseas for even more money because she needs 7-8 months of family time every year. I like her but she seems blind to the privilege
@allisonwearsorange5 жыл бұрын
She seems super sincere in her concern and advocacy for pay equity but some of her answers come across as disingenuous when she doesn't mention that she comes from an *extremely* wealthy background (her family is one of the richest in the state). No problem whatsoever with that, and that's not to say that she hasn't worked very hard to succeed at her own path in life, but I think it's important to provide context when an interviewer asks why she doesn't play overseas - she doesn't want to for the reasons she discussed, but more importantly doesn't have to. Her position of privilege gives her a great platform to advocate for those who may not have the power to do so, but she should be transparent about why.

You’re right, Allison, Elena is well intentioned in her advice and the truth is that she makes enough with her endorsements and her upper echelon league salary to live comfortably without going overseas. The fact that her family is rich shouldn’t concern you. Elena has sound financial tips for anyone, wealthy or not. She doesn’t flaunt herself, and i think some on this comments section are secretly jealous. The truth is that she’s trying to promote visibility for the WNBA for greater pay but that’s another topic.

30 teams in the NBA 12 teams in the WNBA 34 Games in a WNBA Season 82 Games in a NBA season. I do understand the want to be paid more for doing a good job. But equal pay must come when an equal amount of work is done. A person playing 82 games a professional basketball and their paycheck should not be matched by someone who plays 32 games at the professional level. If someone Works a 12-hour shift and if someone Works a three-hour shift, who gets paid more?
@MicroTex235 жыл бұрын
@Eric Brown the argument you made makes no sense, these ladies who work their tail off is not asking to be paid 20/30/40 million dollars per year, they are asking for equal pay , a just salary in their own sport. They are aware they will not make NBA money and I don't believe they are asking for NBA type money. An athlete of Elena Delle Donne caliber whether she play 34 games or more should not be making 107,000 max for the year when you have a lot of lame A## NBA basketball payers sitting down, or warming the bench ie(Chandler Parsons, Bizmack Biyombo, Luol Deng, Ian Mahinmi, Timofey Mozgov the list is too long etc) making on average over $15.5 million/year contributing absolutely nothing to their respective teams. When women speak about equal pay often time is mostly men always assuming they are asking for the same pay as men in every industry. As a woman I don't expect WNBA players will be paid the same amount as NBA players but have some respect for female athletes who put in the work, have families they take care of, businesses they run they are worth far more than $115K/year. That amount is an insult to them and future female athletes who want to make this a career and don't get me started how the media keeps female athletes pay scale down by not marketing, promoting their sports on main stream sports channels. WNBA season is currently going on and you hear more news on what Lebron James is doing in the off season on ESPN/FOX/Sports Network than these amazing female athletes.

not trying to disrespect anyone in the WNBA but there just isn’t a “demand” or anything for the WNBA. it comes in right after NBA and NCAA season when people are kind of exhausted from basketball and kind of ready for the summer/football talk. also people want to see high flying dunks, alley-oops, deep 3s, chase down blocks, and other athletic things. it’s hard to watch fundamental basketball when the NBA provides such a high level of basketball. us watching the WNBA would be settling for less and putting our money into less when we don’t have to.

So I hate to be that guy but, nba loses money to support WNBA. Men go and watch man play sports. Why women's don't go and watch sports? I bet you if WNBA games are sold out, then they won't need to go overseas to make the money. In Europe, women actually go and watch sports and that is why they make more money. Please don't call me sexist, I'm only stating facts, no personal opinions

The wnba doesnt make that much money. The women are paid accordingly, maybe get some women that can dunk, make it more entertaining, grow the fan base.
