Washington Today (5-8-24): Defense Secretary Austin confirms U.S. paused arms shipment to Israel

Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela Smith say it was violence and threats of violence that led to the early morning operation to clear the pro-Palestinian protester tent encampment at George Washington University.
Rep. James Comer (R-KY), chair of the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, canceled a hearing scheduled for today about the GWU protest with Mayor Bowser testifying. Chair Comer commended the mayor for "clearing the trespassers" off the "unlawful encampment".
