Cool. Now that I’m home and retired I’m going this spring after them can’t wait. Still love all. The videos they did keep me going the whole time I was working overseas. !!!!!

June best month. Sometimes wind is a problem. On a shad dart I have caught, steelhead, jack salmon, up river brites, trout, cutthroat and even a 4 foot sturgeon. You never know what you may catch. My daughter paints the darts with fingernail paint. Dark green, light green, white color with a spot of red on the front always works best.

Excellent information and demonstration to the novice shad fisherman. I appreciate it very much and one day soon I hope to hang into some shad. Thanks for posting.

I always make sure to have a small 5 1/2 foot rod usually strung with 8lb Stren. Lightweight gear with a nice Gitzit or crappie jig....doesn't get any better than that. Thanks for another great episode!

does it very normal to fish Shad by a Boat in the Col. River? We use to go the Bonnevelle Dam where the Shad schools always pile up there

Hi Blake! Do you know if shad can be caught from the bank along the entire Lower Columbia, like around Vancouver or Longview? Does everyone congregate around the dam because that's the only place to reliably catch them from shore?
@WAFishQuest4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I've meant to find that out but never have. I know people fish from boats for them lower in the river by putting darts off the back. I don't see why it wouldn't work if you found some strong currents to hold them. Everyone just goes near the dam because they're all stacked up.

Hey Blake, how do you prepare your Shad? I have always heard they are so boney that they aren't worth eating. Perhaps another video? Thanks, Bud! Tight lines!

What weight shad darts are you using?
@WAFishQuest3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question! 1/16. I've used 1/8 too. S'all good imo. My thought process is they hit tiny beads so might as well go small.

yeah, it's right off the road and the waves can really crash. Yep! I usually smoke about half of em, and use the other half for bait. Russell sat this one out. The drive was just too long.
