Yes, you can use a different method. Let x=riding distance in km and y= walking distance in km. Then x+y=10.4 ...eqn1 Also x/t1=3y/t2 x/(¾)=3y/(1) x=(9/4)y,,,eqn2 Solve eqn1 and eqn2 simultaneously to get: y=3.2 km Hence walking speed=3.2/1=3.2 km/h Riding distance=x=(9/4)(3.2)=7.2 km
