Here are 3 types of trucks that you will usually see working residential routes in Rolling Hills Estates; all pure "Think Green Think Clean." A CNG HX-450 ASL mounted on a 2014 Peterbilt 320, a CNG McNeilus ZR mounted on a 2012 Peterbilt 320, and then a CNG McNeilus M5 RL mounted on a 2012 Freightliner M2.
I remember georgewuzheer (George of course) wanted to see some footage of this RL. Well here you have 2min clip. Sorry I couldn't get more of that RL, I lost him afterwards and the driver didn't talk much, but I have to thank him for letting me film.
Anyways first you'll see Jesus G and Tony in their Amrep trucks picking up recycling. Then you'll see Toro picking up trash in his ZR. Then you'll see 311538 RL doing private properties/roads. He only comes once during the day on each private/road, so he has to mix all streams, like the CalMet HOAs. I'm not sure where he dumps, but I'm sure this material is sorted.
Usually Toro is in his bulk truck in Carson every afternoon, but up here not usually. Since this area is rich, the residents don't set out bulk much. So you would see the bulk truck as well, but not today or not much at all to begin with.
For commercial (not filmed, only residential was filmed) we have 210750 FL on horse manure brown Toters using the custom grippers, 211642 FL on regular dumpsters, 206668 FL on food waste from Compton using Amrep grippers, and 210750 again on commercial recycling dumpsters. All that is usually hard to catch as the stops are far apart. I believe commercial trash and food waste are done Wednesday, while commercial recycling and horse manure are possibly Thursday.
I like how most of the trucks meet down at the bottom of the hill at one neighborhood that's always done last. Jesus G finished before 4! As far the coloring: grey is trash, blue for recycles, green for yard waste, and brown for horse manure. Horse manure is scattered out and is possibly collected Thursday, so that's why you didn't see any out. I did see one in a big yard by a horse trail, but I didn't get a pic for some reason.. :/ Also greens are dark bins so you should be able to tell the difference.
I also dedicate this video to WMmaster626 (Aaron). He's been wanting me to go here for about 4 years and I finally did. I regret not going back then, but I never had time. I remember seeing 310s operate here, Volvos, and much more goodies. Weird to hear that a 310 used to operate here, and in Carson as well, as RHE has the same drivers as Carson mostly. I'm not sure where 311538 works other days probably Manhattan Beach or Long Beach. Same deal with 211642, but I know 210750 and 206668 work Carson occasionally. Also I believe the Volvos were gone by 2011ish or so, and then the 310s by 2012 or so.
I don't plan on coming back to the Peninsula soon or by bike for any of that matter. The hills are crazy and there are so many and at times it would get very hot as that's how it usually is before its humid. You can see the clouds in the distance in one of Jesus G's clips. As it's in the hills and some parts are very dry it gets warm, but in the forest areas it gets very cool. I was biking for 2 1/2 hours and it was tiring trying to look for drivers in the beginning as they seem to work more uphill, but afterwards it wasn't that bad.
I only plan on coming back for EDCO this friday to film Bridgeports and an ex LA Isuzu RL. The area for the BPs I'll be in is more like San Pedro than PV, so it shouldn't be too bad, but the RL area will be very much like RHE. But the hills up by San Pedro are still bad, but not as bad as RHE.
I've noticed that some of these trucks have slowed down a bit, but still run at good speed and lid flip imo.
Plus only people I recall ever filming here were Tony and Kirk, also I'm glad I was finally able to get footage of the RL.
Also I apologize missing the greens collection as that's what I wanted to see: the lines of greens. This area doesn't have much trash to begin with so a lot of recycles and greens. Also Gustavo usually works trash in Carson, but he works greens here since its so heavy. Didn't see him. I only saw Tony, Jesus G, Toro, Jesus V and the RL. If you guys didn't know the associated truck numbers here they are:
Jesus G: 104510 (recycle); Tony: 104511 (recycle); Toro: 103913 (trash); Jesus V: 103953 (greens, not featured in vid) and RL 311538.
Also beware of the wind at times, it gets very loud so turn down the volume, it doesn't matter since all these trucks are CNG. Also I apologize for the dirty lens on the RL route.
Big thanks to the drivers for being nice as usual, esp the ASL drivers that I've always kept in touch with. All the ASL drivers were surprised to see me up here and said "WHAT ARE YOU DOING ALL THE WAY UP HERE?!" As they always see me in Carson. Anyways hope you guys enjoy!
