I've been hearing about my yard getting a brand new fleet of these "Think Green, Think Clean" trucks recently - both Henry and Heros told me that there were new trucks in the yard. A couple weeks ago, I did manage to drive by the yard and see that there were about 10 brand new trucks sitting there. I was excited to see them in action, and at the same time, very disappointed that there were new trucks in the yard. These will be the last batch of new trucks for a while - they were brought in to replace the last Diesels my yard has - which are the Volvo Curottos.
Today (12/26/13), I was biking around Arcadia giving Christmas presents to all the WM drivers I knew, and I noticed there were tons of lids flipped in the area. Since I knew Filiberto was working recycles, I knew his truck, the old 263016, was replaced with a brand new Amrep. I was really hoping to get some last footage of his Curotto Can, since he was really fast in that truck. I knew it was going to get replaced soon because the Curotto was having arm troubles for the past couple weeks. I really wanted WM to wait until 2014 to start putting these trucks into service, but unfortunately, they didn't.
I must say, these trucks are really good looking, aside from the mirrors. They stick out way too much and look very obnoxious. Both drivers I talked to that got these new trucks said they hated the new mirrors, and that the old ones worked better. As a matter of fact, they have a hard time seeing the street side mirror because of the way it is positioned. So hopefully they could be replaced with "Moto Mirrors" one day.
Anyway, I really hope you enjoy this first look at WM's brand new batch of CNG trucks. And I know many of you will enjoy the lid flipping! He was lid flipping because after all, this was his second or third day in the new Amrep, and a switch from FL to Amrep is pretty different. Overall, Filiberto really misses his Curotto Can - and he definitely has reason to. He has to work the routes of Abel and Rios, and possibly one other driver, so he didn't finish until around 5, and that was with his Curotto. Now with the Amrep + post-Holiday recyclables, he was still out around 6:45 today. Hopefully, he'll get used to the Amrep or get his Curotto back soon.
Enjoy the video! I will definitely get more if I get the chance.
BIG thank you to Filiberto for letting me film! Easily one of the coolest drivers out there, as you can see.
All fallen trash was picked up.
Thanks for watching!
