Daisy, I am an old man and absolutely love your videos. My wife isn't in to wood working at all but she watches your videos with me and enjoys them as much as I do. I hope those negative people NEVER change who you are and what you do. They just have to show up everywhere kind of like rats, cockroaches or mice. It would be fantastic if someone could invent a KZbin pest control spray to get rid of the pests that have nothing constructive to say. Be you, we love who you are and what you do.

You seem to be collecting old men! I’m another old man who enjoys your videos. I watch a variety of luthier channels and can’t help despairing over the waste that can be avoided with a scarf joint and stacked heal. Lovely book matching on the back; something else you share with Gabi Reti. And the best way to confront the doubters? Head on by by doing what you’re so obviously good at!

I’ve spent the past twenty years as a full time furniture maker and occasional boat builder. I know little of guitar making but it’s so enjoyable and educational watching a skilled craftsperson at work. It sucks you have to deal the trolls. I’ve been lucky to have had some amazing women apprentices.

Loved the shots of the shavings. The non-woodworkers among the audience may struggle to understand the deep almost spiritual satisfaction that comes from seeing a sharp edge peel off a layer of wood that seems almost atomically thin but I get it. It is the product of engineering and craft in perfect harmony. The rest of the video was great but those were a bonus.

One of my favourite gifts to receive as a small child was a little wooden box of mixed shavings from a family friend and woodworker. He inscribed the underside of the lid with the species and we would try to match the shavings to the tree names. I'm no woodworker but those paper thin spirals of colour and grain were so satisfying!

Good Day Ms. Luthier, If I may I have a suggestion for you to think on. Do not listen to those people who instill self doubt. I hav watched your videos to some extent. If anything validates your abilities it is your tools. You have extremely sharp chisels and planes. That is nothing a faker can achieve. Hells bells not many even know a sharp tool period. I am a luthier and studied under a master luthier here in Nova Scotia for 6 years. I knew the basics by that time and continued on opening my own business. You have significant skills and knowledge. Keep on that path. My path led me to restoration and repair as I made no money from building. It is a conjested market and my hope is that your dreams come to fruition. Cheers, Lex Luthier

Plane a piece of wood as long as the flat part of the back of the neck super flat and rub it with pencil lead. Rub this surface along your nearly completely shaped neck in order to show the high spots. This goes a long way towards a professional feeling neck taper with no peaks and valleys under your thumb. You’d be amazed at how well your thumb will pick up peaks and valleys.

Hi Daisy, isn't it terrible how in this day and age there are still neanderthals that still think women who represent half the human race can't do anything technical like men do, who would have thought women can play professional football, drive articulated trucks and fix things, surely not! I watch loads of skilled women fixing and creating amazing tech stuff, I follow females that repair electronic gadgets, fix and repair cars, build houses and show that is time to stop being surprised that there are women in all fields these days and it's great to see some of their amazing skills, love your video's and your skill and passion for what you do!

While every aspect of an acoustic guitar is vitally important to the finished instrument, the neck is (to me) the most magical. It is, more than anything else, what determines if it will be a joy to play - or a beast to be wrestled. Beautiful seeing it come together. It's easy to tell how therapeutic it is for you, making it, as it's therapeutic to me seeing it done. Thanks, as always Daisy, for brightening my day!

I have an old neighbor that builds custom Portuguese Guitars by hand (except for a small wood lathe he uses no other power tool) for some of the most famous guitar players in the country, he knows all the secrets from the wood features to the type of varnish used to produce the amazing sound. A few years ago he wanted to find someone younger to teach his trade, but sadly no one seems to value his art anymore. Every time I go to his workshop I just watch in awe all his amazing woodwork, he does this amazing fine detailed features across his guitars using several types/colors of wood that resemble leaves encased in a very polished glass finish.

I haven’t heard him play since but I hope some day I can learn so that I can play for him and let him hear what I heard that day

Daisy: in Norse means new beginnings, just on that note…You need to make an octave mandolin. They sell for good value on the market and they are small body guitars which you are great at making. Recently builders started making them with flat tops instead of arched and you would just need to change the neck and bridge to do it. You got dis! “Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie, What we ascribe to heaven.” Shakespeare

I even check out all the trees I have growing on my 11 acres to see the signs of heliotropism! I often wonder if my spotted gums would make good wood for a guitar. Very dense wood and used a lot in furniture making. Might be okay for an electric guitar rather than an acoustic. If you are a fake then I'll have two. Your hands are the give away. They are workers' hands. Also using Lidl tools tells me you are new to this . Thank you, just so so marvellous Daisy, don't change.

Daisy, please don't let the negative, small-minded trolls bring you down. To those types of people, I say screw diplomacy and political correctness...Invite them to your shop where you can custom fabricate a wooden device that they may politely (insert verb of choice here) themselves with...Your enthusiasm is contagious and I love it! Your knowledge and expertise are incredible and you have RIGHTFULLY earned the admiration and respect of a large audience...Keep doing what you do best and remember to reach around and give yourself a big pat on the back...Big hugs from an old picker;
