The closest I ever got to a Lion was at an animal park my friend was working at and I was allowed in some of the staff only areas. Including where a large male lion was being kept in the big cat equivalent of a travel cage waiting for the vet to come and examine him. I was allowed to go right up the cage and keep him company until the vet got there and apparently he needed someone to complain to because boy did he have a lot to say about his current situation. He grumbled for 10 minutes before the vet finally arrived. It's funny and one of my favourite memories, listening to a grumpy lion complaining about his lot in life.

A honey badger is 100% NOT an animal easily torn to pieces. They are literally built in such a way that their bodies are not easily damaged and are simultaneously easily defensible. Paired with their absolutely FAFO attitude and ferocity, they are quite formidable.

The same happened in the National Zoo of Chile in 2016. The guy survived, but two lions lost their lives because of this madman who wanted to commit suicide by recreating a "biblical scene." Although tranquilizer darts were fired at the lions, they killed them because the darts didn't kick in fast enough (decision that was widely criticized not only in Chile, but throughout the world). The lion was called "Manolo" and the lioness: "Flaquita". The first was born in the zoo, and was the son of an abused lioness; the second was abandoned by a circus in the south, from where was rescued by park staff. Rest in peace Manolo and Flaquita

I’m from Mississippi and something like this happened at the zoo in Memphis back about a decade ago. A lady got into the lion enclosure, started proclaiming her love for the lions and started singing to them. She also tried to feed them cookies. Luckily for her, the lions thought she was a pure idiot and stood there whilst the zookeepers and police drug her out. What’s crazier about this was that this was the second incident with this woman relating to the lions. She was caught throwing cookies into the enclosure the week before and was escorted out. The zoo had to renovate the enclosure because of this and the woman got time in a psych ward and a permanent banning order from the zoo.

i went to Taipei zoo around the same year, my friends and me went to the wolves enclosure. Looking at the 3 wolves, starting to notice the wall was around 3 feet high and the moat about 2 feet wide, we suspected a wolf could make the jump. We noticed a family with some children also looking at the 3 wolves, the wolves seemed very interested in what i guess they call lunch, i.e the humans in front of them , so being the heroes that we where, we placed the family in-between us and the wolves, and made our goodbyes. Didn't see anything on the news about a family get eaten by wolves, so i guess it was all good.

A family raises real Timber wolves on my road. They had a business called Wolf People for years where you could see the wolves & buy clothing & stuff. They ended up losing their business because a wolf escaped and destroyed a lot of livestock. I can also recall at least 2 bites from people sticking their fingers in the cages. Wolves are extremely cunning and quite scary in person

It's because he was facing him. Lions get confused and are less likely to attack if you're facing them because they're unsure if you're a threat. If you turn and start running away, they're far more likely to attack because they see you as prey. In Africa farmers often wear masks on the BACK of their heads to stop lion attacks.

I have somewhat mastered the technique of not cowering in front of predators. I grew up in Romania, in a pretty nice city actually, modern, but every now and then roaming bands of wild dogs(20-50) would pass trough the city, even in the fancy suburbs. I knew dogs only bite if you act scarred. It was pretty wild, it was just me, 10 years old, alone going one way and 50 nomadic Mongol dogs going the other way passing each other on the street.
