There is an episode of Live PD where the dog handler did this on nationally broadcast TV. He took the dog around the car once without an alert. The second time around the car the handler made a faint "huh?" sound to the dog just as they got to the driver's door. The dog instantly sat facing the door, so the cops now had an "alert." They searched the car and of course found absolutely nothing. If the handler was brazen enough to do it on national television you know he must do it on a very routine basis.

@legacyntd
@legacyntd Ай бұрын
No. That is typical to see if he can make the dog leave "source." However there are several other things wrong. 1. The dog has his mouth open the entire time. In order to get odor to the olfactory system them mouth must be closed. Not once did I see the dog actaully sniff. 2. The dog had zero search pattern and was going high the entire time. 3. This does bring into some suspucion the hand tap because why was the officer not presenting then entire time? One would need to review other stops or training videos to see if and why there is a difference. 4. The dog responds to the DRIVERS side door. Not only did the dog go around more than once but because of the traffic and the wind gusts caused by it odor would have already had a continuos flow out the passenger side window. Odor would not pool there. The handler had he been trained properly would have started on the passenger side for safety and because odor is most likey to be pushed that way. Once the dog picks odor it would then have follow to the source and responded. 5. I didn't see and change in behavior at all. 6. The search with the dog was illegal anyway because it was a terry stop. See Ohio vs Terry. So if I were testifying against this dog I wouldn't have put much weight in the hand signal and all of the other much larger issues first.

Good for this gentleman. Same thing happened to me on I-5 between Tuscon and Phoenix on a roadrip thru the SW--the only difference was the cop passed me, got in front of me (no signal, nor nearly enough car-lengths distance) then slowed down by about 5 mph. I tolerated it for a few miles but I knew he was going to pull me over no matter what so I signaled and passed and was promptly pulled over. Reason? I didn't signal soon enough for his liking. Same exact thing with the questions, the bullshiting and the K9 unit. The only thing they found was an open bottle of vodka in a cooler in the trunk . . . which is, of course, not illegal. After nearly 90 minutes of searching the car while we stood on the side of the highway in 100+ heat, he finally let us go. When I pointed out that he should have pulled himself over for the shitty, no-signal passing and intentionally slowing in front of me, he just smirked.

I had a similar fishing incident. I was trying to film a train and the police harassed me because of a radio that I use to listen to trains with. They arrested me, impounded my car and took my photography equipment. I had a license for the radio. My car had my stuff that I travel with in it and they made a mess of everything and destroyed one of my radios. They had my stuff for about a week including the car I was renting. It cost me a couple of thousand dollars and the judge dropped the charges because I didn't break any laws. I used to trust police until that happened. I never had a record and I worked for the county for twenty years working alongside the police. I will never trust police again and I will never talk to them about anything ever again. If I ever get pulled over again I am recording everything and not saying one word. They even lied to me and said the car I leased was reported stolen. I had the contract in the car. I learned the hard way to stay away from police. I would rather be approached by a criminal instead of a policeman. Since that happened I have been robbed while filming for my channel but there is no way that I would ever report it. Best advice is to not say anything at all.

@@jmfia2391 Word of caution, if that is your reason then don't! I'm now a retired attorney living in Japan because I don't trust the US judicial system. There are so many stories I could tell you. I went into public law first doing criminal defense (which paid $200/case, note, you want your client to plead out and not go to trial which you aren't prepared to do) but I did landlord/tenant law, employment, and immigration. It didn't take long before the police started focusing on me. It didn't take long before I got the message that I had upset the powers in being (many of the judges in our county were landlords and one even requested me to step in on an eviction dispute to explain the law to the defendant). After getting pulled over for bogus reasons by the cops and even arrested once I decided to head for warmer waters and moved to Japan and did international law or explaining American law to Japanese. (I even helped Hitachi with their current project in Texas do a high speed rail line). But now I live a comfortable life after 21 years of being here. I have a beautiful view of Mt. the problem with "sue them into accountability" is the average person can't afford an attorney to do that, which is why we have such an accountability issue when all the other methods are controlled by the police unions and corrupt system that provides no meaningful reprieve... until the average person can afford an attorney, little to nothing will actually change long-term, it will just be short-term victories but we'll repeat this soon there after, history has taught us that.

@@michaelblasius7705 michaelblasius - I don't think you've actually experienced this process if you think contingency lawyers jump at the chance to represent someone "with a case"... in most incidents there is little monetary incentive, because only the most severe and egregious cases with high six or seven figure settlements will get them jumping... and sadly most of the cases faced by the average person would amount to little or no monetary compensation but force law enforcement to adhere to the law... thats why these problems all repeat, because the punitive measures are not personally impacting officers and when they do its often a "verbal coaching" rather than a career threatening issue... you realize most officers who get sued and the department loses and tries to reach a settlement, majority of the time keep their jobs and often advance within them, because the police unions have negotiated to stop holding such actions against the officer soon after, allowing the bad cops to exist and thrive without any lasting accountability... but PLEASE, do not suggest to people contingency lawyers will jump at the chance if they have a legally sound case, because so many have thought that and then experienced the reality its like pulling teeth at the dentist to get one to say yes for whats "righteous" over whats little work and easy settlement money, and most cases are not little work nor easy money which is why its rare to get a contingency lawyer to take anything but injury claims for insurance settlements...

@@fredh54 The real fix is cops need to have private and individual to each cop malpractice insurance, like doctors have. They fuck up and there's a lawsuit, the insurance company pays out the settlement, not the taxpayers, but at the same time they will drop the cop, and they won't be able to get malpractice insurance from any company anymore, and thus can't be a cop anymore. That fixes this BS of "you f'ed up over here, but moved over 2 counties and got a job as a cop again". I am currently hard at work trying to publish a true crime novel which I have written regarding the out of control police corruption in the state of Alaska which has directly affected me and has had a major impact on my life and the lives of many other innocent people in the state of Alaska. I have been stalked, tormented, set up, framed, falsely accused, poisoned, attacked and even had evidence planted in my home by law-enforcement in North Pole Alaska and during the winter of 2018 I found myself dating a woman who was a police informant (a plant) and one evening on January 11 2019 this woman and her state policeman (handler) followed me around town and waited until I was at a convenience store where he had her jump in to my vehicle and dump a massive quantity of crystal meth into my soda, I saw this take place and when I ran out of the store they had already left, I followed them across town to a location where they met up with other officers, I pulled up behind them and attempted to get their license plates but I could not remember them, I did however positively ID my girlfriend sitting in the passenger side of a black Jeep Wrangler, there was nothing I could do and at the time I did not know what she had done inside my vehicle and I quickly drank my soda and left but about 20 minutes later I began overdosing and swerved into a store parking lot where I asked the store clerk to call for help, within minutes I was in the back of an ambulance fighting for my life overdosing. I tried to talk to the staff at the hospital and ask them for police assistance and was ignored, I tried reporting this with no success to multiple law-enforcement agencies including internal affairs, umbudsman, attorneys and civil rights groups, including countless posts on social media with no luck at locating anyone who seems to care or were able to help, (I seem to only end up on the phone with undercover agents) since then my life has been a roller coaster ride of surveillance, intimidation, torments. I’ve been under surveillance by more law enforcement agencies across the country that I can think of as well as had my rights violated on a continual basis even up to this present day I am still being hounded and tormented and even threatened by these people in more ways than I could mention to maintain their coverup and keep hidden any evidence against them, I live in constant fear of retaliation by them and never know when or how they will retaliate to stop me from telling the world my story this along with other similar experiences as well as my life in Alaska will all be going in my book which will be published asap, Please invest in a copy of my book to help tell my story to the world, there’s more to the story than just me, there are the innocent lives of people falsely accused and wrongly imprisoned all over Alaska who were thrown in jail and falsely accused by the same crew of corrupt police officers, please help me take up this fight and help me tell my story, All I need is for others to care and care about what happened to me and the many others who are falsely imprisoned as well as your own rights which are at risk if this is not exposed and dealt with! The police is just the single aspect of the security state that is outward facing that we can see. If the average citizen truly knew the depths of the situation they would all come to the same conclusion. The US is a turnkey dictatorship waiting to happen due to the incredible amount of power vested in federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies(particularly SIGINT agencies like the NSA). There is no such thing as privacy. They can search all of your digital documents, your phone records, listen to your calls, read your texts, look at your photos, activate your webcam, etc. They don't even need a warrant to do so due to things like the FISC(Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court) which is in and of itself a misnomer. A COURT is an adversarial process wherein the accused is given due process of law with their own legal counsel. Under the FISC the accused is given no representation whatsoever. Every case is just the government arguing before a "judge" why they need a surveillance warrant and they almost always win. Because its not really a court...Its just the vague appearance of a court.

It was a consensual conversation that resulted in a man getting his car searched and all of his cash taken.

@@karinaz8756 the problem is people who keep saying to comply with any request if you are innocent. Getting asked to step outside and not following orders is grounds for them to pull you out. Sitting in the front of a cop car and answering questions for 10 minutes was a bone head move. Everyone should know by know to not answer any questions and plead the 5th. The consent to search was denied but he still called the K9 and did the search. Honestly he was screwed the moment he was pulled over. What would you suggest? Say you are not going to step outside and escalate the encounter so the cop can have reasonable ground to search your vehicle because you were acting suspicious and didn't comply? In similar cases, people stopped answering questions and cops would say that was suspicious and still call the k9 unit. They pull people over for going 5-10 miles under the speed limit because its suspicious.

Nearly the exact same thing happened to me in Missouri. This was 10 years ago. I’m an engineer and I was traveling from a customer in a remote area to my hotel. I’m wearing a company branded polo, and the only thing in the car with me was my computer bag. It sounds like they are working from some kind of script. The wording of the stop was almost identical. I refused to answer any questions politely, and declined consent to search. I was in a rental car that had 6-7 miles on lit when I picked it up. It was spotless. K9 made a full lap of the car, then after a discussion with the officer who pulled me over, they went back and on the second search the dog “alerted.” I spent an hour on the side of the road while officers trashed the rental car. Removing panels, and returning to ask me to “just give it up”. I’m fairly certain they went through a digital camera I had in my bag.

The same thing happened to me while driving through Omaha Nebraska late at night coming back from a 10 day snowboarding trip in Colorado. I was detained for over an hour, while the officer had me standing outside of my vehicle in 0 degree temperatures, peppering me with questions. He even went as far as to create stories about some supposed family member of his that supposedly owned the same type of business that I’m in to try to get me to say that I’d heard of him or his business (which was fake). After an hour in the freezing cold, he asked if I had any “large quantities” of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, meth or guns. I told him no. He asked if he could call a dog. I told him I couldn’t care less, as long as he let me back into my car bc I was freezing. He then said have a good night, and the entire stop was premised upon me swerving, which is BS. There were about 20 cop cars lined up along I-80, and they were peeling off one at a time and following people for about a mile, then pulling them over. I watched him follow me the entire time, and I never once swerved. F’n liars!!!

@@justme-n-gracie Yeah, I know. The problem is that I didn’t live anywhere near Omaha. The officer who pulled me over eventually told me that 1-80 is a major ‘drug corridor’. This could probably be said about any major US freeway, so it probably happens all over the country, with the same excuse being used. They lie and say that you swerved a little bit, play an hour long game of 1000 & 20 questions, and then want to search your vehicle, making a complete mess and never cleaning up after themselves. Some probably plant evidence too. I saw a story here on KZbin about a guy who was driving from Texas through Nevada to visit his daughters in California, and had brought his savings of $87,000 with him. He was pulled over for driving UNDER the speed limit (apparently either over or under are both punishable offenses) because he was behind a semi he couldn’t pass. The cops asked him if he had any drugs, guns or cash, and he said yes, I have cash, along with all of my bank receipts that go along with it. The cops were trying to determine how they could take it, so they called for a K9, they had the dog smell the money, and the dog apparently indicated that the money smelled like drugs, so they stole his life savings, leaving him stranded in Nevada with no money for gas, food or a hotel room. The DEA was in on it, and he had to sue them to get his money back. He was a Marine combat veteran with a squeaky clean record, and they just left him on the side of the road in the desert penniless.

I got pulled over a few weeks ago by a sheriff. I was pulling a farm implement home. Was pulling it with my truck. Traveling through a town. Saw him pull up to a stop sign. His tires were turned towards the west, & his blinker was signaling left, to head the direction i was coming from. He waited for me to drive around 5 blocks to go by heading east. He then turned east and followed me. I barley got out of town & he turned his lights on & pulled me over. Between crapy roads and high wind, a cover came off. Originally thought he was going to be a good Samaritan and tell me the cover came off. I saw it was off just before he turned his lights on. Then, He "had" to look at my license & run a background check. I could tell he wasn't happy that i didn't do anything wrong. Went back, got the cover in the ditch, and made it home without any problems. It was so obvious he was going to pull me over for some made up reason. The cover coming off gave him an excuse and elevated it from there.

I am glad to see that the institute for justice is taking on this case. THANK YOU. Most lawyers will not take a case with out a retainer and most people do not have the money for a retainer.

This is disgusting. I've been pulled over for DUI, passed a breathalizer & still kept overnight after they said they'd let me go AND I've been pushed by an officer while just standing in my home, falsely arrested-later to be given multiple letters saying I was 'just detained'...& when they dragged me to lock up for zero reason even according to them, they told me they'd let me go with a bus ticket to get home-I was wearing sweat shorts, flip flops & a tank top, they didn't tell me to bring a wallet or a phone or even my keys...then they let me out after 10pm when the only bus left was MILES AWAY IN THE FREEZING COLD, HAD TO WALK OVER AN OVERPASS WITH NO WALKWAY GOT VIRTIGO & ALMOST DIED SEVERAL TIMES...& the only way I got home was the bus driver-which was the LAST bus & NOT going toward my home at all, personally drove me home after her 3 HOUR ROUTE. She saved my live & told me that the sherriff's office does this ALL THE TIME. They are located in Woodland CA if you want to call & harrass the FK out of them btw.

not as extreme of an example as yours but I was arrested on a military base but that was only after two hours of me standing in freezing temperature in sweatpants and getting interrogated for 4 hours all because they found an empty vape cart and thought it was THC. Then they revoked my permission to travel on base and dumped me at a Burger King after giving me a lecture about how I need to turn to christ and become a good christian (I already am a christian) the judge threw out the case in the end but they charged me with two charges that I could see serious jail time for so for months i had no clue if i was gonna get kicked out of college or go to jail cause the court never told me they threw out the case so I traveled across country for no reason in the middle of the school year. I did get fired from my job tho. So because a couple MPs were bored and CID had nothing better to do they arrested me and all they did was make me really dislike cops. And I have an associate's in criminal justice 😅

This is exactly why qualified immunity needs to be ABOLISHED.

Also abolish police unions as they shield the police and sheriffs from getting held accountable to the full extend of the law for their wrongdoings

Qualified immunity means nothing if the cop is dead. We have a second amendment for a reason.

Cops are the problem. Their current function doesn't provide a valuable service that private industry doesn't do better.
